  • Perhaps this song was a bit too artful and sophisticated to be put in the mainstream Hollywood movie version - what a great shame, because it is SUBLIME.

  • Have you heard Shirley Horn do this tune? You can believe every word of the lyric when she sings as if it were you singing about the one and only person in your life, ever.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'VE ALWAYS SAID THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE MOVIE!

  • No better female singer currently on the planet. End of story.

  • Thank you for posting this!!

  • FORTY SIX YEARS AGO! I first heard this at age 10, and it has stuck with me for forty six years...she is a wonder, for all her faults, she is one of the best singers ever, ever, ever...

  • A very great song, and seemingly unloved by its singer.

  • A great song and a wonderful voice. The very best!

  • CHEERS TO BARBRA, YES, ALWAYS, BUT BRAVO TO THE OTHER HALF OF THIS AMAZING SONG WRITING TEAM! HERE'S TO THE GREAT, LATE BOB MERRILL. HE SEEMS ALL BUT FORGOTTEN. WHAT A BRILLIANT LYRICIST HE WAS. LOVE HIM!

  • THere are a lot of wonderful and brilliant female vocalists. THere is only one Streisand. Simply put..she is the greatest female vocalist of this century. Period.

  • The greatest compliment of Streisand's amazing career will be the awful reviews the next Funny Girl will get when the show is revived FINALLY next year. Producers have not wanted to touch this show for ages because she's irreplaceable. Funny Girl was a blockbuster hit and they revive everything but she's THE GREATEST STAR! Gyspy was not as successful and it' s been revived FOUR times.

  • This is a great Broadway song!!! Ms. Streisand's interpretation and her voice control are amazing. Thanks for this post.

  • i didn't really enjoy funny girl but now i'm discovering all these songs from the musical and i'm defintly gonna learn them! i really appreciate her voice now, beautiful :)

  • Listen to "You Wanna Bet" by Streisand (on YOUTUBE, of course). A soaring vocal.

  • I agree rlee1976. Her technical gifts were astounding. In addition to that, she had the emotional component that was just as strong. From a young age, she could infuse a lyric and a melody with such longing, intensity and intelligence. She's still phenomenal (albeit, less powerful, more mature) and continued to be through many decades. But the raw power and emotionality of her stuff from the 60's will never cease to awe me. I listen and watch the hair stand up on my arm time after time.

  • @Migelito1969 Your comment is perhaps the most insightful and well phrased of all that are posted. You have provided a glimpse behind the curtain of mystery that will always surround this astounding talent.

  • Warm, not brassy, such a beautiful belt! I wouldn't even call it belting, it's "Streisand-ing." It's beautiful what she used to be able to do, switch in and out of head voice and mix and do this natural thing that one couldn't even put their finger on and who'd want to - it's like picking apart a butterfly's wings!

  • I saw Barbra in 1964 at the Winter Garden Theatre in Funny Girl. I was 14 years old. I will never forget this show, the entire audience stood up and gave her a standing ovation at the end of this song.

  • wow really??that mustve been amazing just to be therei would love to have experienced it, im 26 and im completely obsessed with funny girl at the moment!ive always loved barbras voice but i never saw her movies until recently and every one that ive seen is fab especially funny girl, the way we were, yentl and the mirror has two faces!

  • @buffedtrainer The song is beautiful, but it's unusual that an audience stood *during* the show. Are you sure you're not confusing this with the curtain call? She sang it near the end of the show.

  • An amazing love song, and no one can sing it like Barbra! I sit here and hit 'replay' endlessly...

  • Has anyone ever been able to sing like this woman??? What an incredible voice! Though her version of "My Man" that ends the film is electric..

  • @BrBCross I sometimes wonder, if in the history of mankind, anyone has ever sang as beautifully. I seriously doubt I'll ever hear another singer who can match her voice. This song is one of the most beautiful ever written.

  • This is a amazing song, ad she does it the justice it well deserves. Such a pity this song was omitted from the film. A much wider audience surely would have heard it, enjoyed it, and taken the pleasure from it that so many of us have. Thanks to all who made this song possible.

  • wow!!! thats amazing

  • Barbra's favorite song from the score. You can tell she loves it-cant even imagine what it was like live on Broadway back then
