Oh, well. If you want to continue this convo, you're welcome to PM me. But i feel bad as this isn't a religious video, just a cover of a song i find offensive. So this discussion is kinda spammy.
Another very nice arrangement. As for the blasphemous part - I would venture to say that most songs criticizing religion are usually aimed at people and not the religion itself, as it is the people that have misused and misrepresented the religion.
Can't please everyone, but you pleased me! Thanks.
What a song! Not sure I find it blasphemous, but even if it was meant that way, it's very beautiful, at least the way you did it. Say boo to the ghosts for me.
@peachtable966 it is kinda borderline, i agree. but i'm not a believer so it doesn't shake me up too much. i think he may be more addressing the way people believe in Jesus, not so much Jesus himself. cause its very centered on "oh, this is what Jesus is going to do for us if we do this, that, and the other thing"
@sagenhaftlog hm, i know what you mean, but from listening to all their albums, they might sound that way on "hello, dear wind" but not so much on "page france and the family telephone", the tone is definitely different when he talks about religious things.
also from some article, he says the imagery just comes out. he's not trying to be a christian band. he said he was raised christian but doesnt think about it much anymore. idk sometimes he sounds too sarcastic or doubtful to take it serious
@sagenhaftlog They actually are Christians, and as far as I can tell, they didn't mean it to be blasphemous. It's more just a celebration of Jesus. People are looking into it too much, because it's so rare for great music to have a great message too.
@peachtable966 Is it blasphemous? Or is it making a statement about who Jesus really is. He isn't some untouchable super-spiritual being. He came to earth and lived like all of us do. And as I am sure you are aware, life is difficult.. Jesus came up dirty. To me that paints a picture of a human Jesus who isn't afraid to get dirty and feel what we feel. It is important that we move away from the white-skinned, blue-eyed, perfect looking Jesus, because that is in no way what he looked like.
@mrcarlson114 Yes a more historically accurate rep. of Jesus is dark, but how is that to be distinguished from a perfect savior? I'm not sure why you mentioned his appearance...
Anyway, the reason i think the song is out of line is because of the implication that he's buried in the dirt, and the fact that he's presented as, not just human, but almost subhuman, a dancing zombie. He might not have looked like a male model, but he is divine, and to imply he's lower than us is blasphemous.
@peachtable966 I'm sorry you interpret the song that way. While I of course don't know the actual intended meaning, I really see the song as presenting a Jesus that is on our level. They acknowledge his power (which puts him above us, obviously), but they present the human side of Jesus, which escapes a lot of people. That aspect of Jesus is INCREDIBLY important. Maybe its blasphemous, but I really see Jesus in the song. Also, Zombie Jesus theme doesn't fit with their style of music at all so...
great job!!
