  • Thank you/ Merci !

  • I adore this piece. Magnificent!!!

  • Best version I've found so far. Faithful to the score, AND it actually follows the original lyrics, unlike the version I currently have (performed by the Halle Orchestra in England)

  • How I love this "Isvand i blodet!" in the end. Thanks for uploading :)

  • Norwegian sounds intimidating.

  • This is so far the best tempo and crescendo for this piece on youtube!

  • I dug out my CD which seems to be the same version. It is the European Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by William Page.

Sorry you'll have to Google - Youtube won't let me post a link.

  • Thank you. I love this version with the choir.

  • Oh, this sounds AWESOME with the choir! Thank you uploading this! Takes an already fantastic piece of music to a whole new level!

  • At last I found the version with the complete lyrics, most versions only have the "Slagt ham! Kristenmands søn har dåret Dovregubbens veneste mø! Slagt ham!" part. IMO this is the best one.

  • quet,quet,quet.qqquuuuuuuuueeeeeetttttttttt...... HOLY SHIT!!!!

  • Very good! Thank you.

  • I don't know if your description is accurate...the last 4 versions I've just pulled up on youtube all had a choir at the end...now, I'm desperately trying to find a purely orchestral version...which I prefer.

  • @alternatehistories It was accurate when I uploaded this, two and a half years ago. There was not more than two or three versions up with the original choir and all were in very bad quality. And I dare say you're exaggerating when you say you're "desperately" trying to find an instrumental version; I just searched the title and the second video I checked was instrumental.

  • @alternatehistories IS TRUE!

  • THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS IT ADDS TO MY ALREADY GREAT PASSION FOR THE PEER GYNT SUITE

  • The version with the choir, found it...always the best..thank you moltoallegro19

  • @alan59able My pleasure, sincerely :)

  • fantastic with the choir, thanks for uploading

  • To me, this song is made all the more powerful and fierce by the choir in it and the meaning of the lyrics:

Chorus: Slay him! The Christian's son has bewitched

The Mountain King's fairest daughter! x2

    Slay him! x4

Chorus: May I hack him on the fingers? May I tug him by the hair? Hu, hey, let me bite him in the haunches! Shall he be boiled into broth and bree to me Shall he roast on a spit or be browned in a stewpan? Ice to your blood!

  • where can I download this track? please send me a privet messege and I'll be very greatfull!

  • I'm not sure if this has already been queried but, does anyone have a link to the version without the choir? i don't very much care for the choir just the instrumental masterpiece.

  • @LoLBOT189 Isn't very hard to find. Just search the title and I'm sure you'll find a good version among the first five videos.

  • I've been looking for this version since seeing the Golden Sun commercial years ago. To find the choral version, even with lyrics is a stroke of fantasy. <3

  • I never knew what this music was titled. I've heard it all my life on television and in the movies. I finally heard it identified on a classical music station in the car and came home to search for it online. Thanks! This was beautiful!

  • first good composition i learned how to play on tuba

    Thank you !

  • Slagt ham! Kristenmands søn har dåret.

    Dovregubbens veneste mø!

    Slagt ham!

    Slagt ham!

Må jeg skjære ham i fingeren?

Må jeg rive ham i håret?

Hu, hej, lad mig bide ham i låret!

Skal han lages til sod og sø?

Skal han steges på spid eller brunes i gryde?

    Isvand i blodet!

  • Thank you! I've been looking for this track for almost 10 years.

  • Probably one of the best pieces of music ever.

  • This is the choral version I've been looking for! Thank you for this

  • just how unfittin to this guy on the picture..

sitting with his arms crossed. and with this cool look of his..

  • chorus ftw !

I just cant stand but write a comment at high speed rate right now while hearing to this ^_^

  • i've got my computer up full volume and i can barely hear it!

  • @tali3n It's supposed to be like that IN THE BEGINNING!!!! Listen to the whole piece; a great part of what's genius in this piece lies in the constantly growing tension (which is accompanied by the constantly growing volume) that leads up to the climax.

  • @tali3n ...it's called beginning a piece quietly then a crescendo until it's really loud and super-amazing...

  • I sang this for the first time tonight at choir practice. I have never felt so cool as I did then.

  • @CrymsynEve

Congrats, this piece is hard as fuck. Mad props bro.

  • @CrymsynEve really? That's so cool! ...I'm slightly jealous now.

  • Aaah, so someone else has this version of HotMK! It always sounds weird to me when they play this without the chorus, or the random norwegian(?) lines in the end.

  • @Nibor7301 I agree. I was brought up with this version and I didn't hear the piece without choir till I was, like, 12. Do you have the same version or just another version with choir? Because if you have this one I am most interested in knowing who the performers are, if you by any chance happen to know that.

  • @moltoallegro19 Yes, that exact recording. I'd recognise those voices anywhere. Sadly, it's in a CD that contains only a few excerpts from the complete recording, so the only info on performers I can find is:

    Gösta Ohlin's Vocal Ensemble

    Pro Musica Chamber Choir

Plus a soprano (Barbara Bonney) and mezzo-soprano (Marianne Eklöf) that don't sing in this track.

  • @moltoallegro19 Oh, the orchestra is Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the conductor is Neeme Järvi

  • @Nibor7301 Wow, thanks, really! So many people have asked for who the performers are, but, unfortunatly, I've been unable to answer since the CD I got this from doesn't mention the names of any orchestras or performers. Thank you very much.

  • 6183 only... lol

  • I really like this, since i`m norwegian:P

This is worlds most hardcore song, and the choir tops the whole thing!

But why the hell is the man shouting "ICEWATER IN THE BLOOD!" at the end?

  • Oh.. Thank you for posting the translation ! I tried to get my Norwegian Father-In-Law & his sister to translate it but they couldn't make out the words. As for the shouting man.. maybe someone will fill us in...

  • I spoke too soon.. Found the story & translation below.. Thanks to Pirateking !

  • @malinraeder trollsangen <3

  • At least the Golden Sun commercial version of the Hall of the Mountain King complete.

    Thanks very much.

  • I could never get tired of listening to this.

P.S. thanks pirateking for the awesome posting of the lyrics.

  • best In The Hall Of The Mountain King of all you tube

  • man, where did you find this? Could yu please tell me the album, or orchestra?

  • I am sorry to to say that I actually have no idea who's playing this. I got this track from a collection called "Greatest Hits of the Classics" from Tring International PLC (licenced from Long Island Music CO.) and no names of conductors, orchestras or performers are mentioned:(

  • Too bad, this version is really Thumbs up., thx for upload :)

  • @moltoallegro19

could you maby tell me more of this "Greatest Hits of the Classics"

and what more tracks ther are? pleazeee...im tired of R&B and need some good quality music (lol) ;)

  • Hehe, allright, I'll try to tell you as much as I can: The box contains 4 CD's. The first one includes Ravel's Bolero, Orff's Carmina Burana, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries, Rossini's Wilhelm Tell overture and Vivaldi's "Spring". The second contains Beethoven's moonlight sonata (the first movement), The second mvt of Dvorak's 9th symphony, Rimsky-Korsakov's "Tale of the Kalendar Prince" from Scheherzade, a few exerpts from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake...

  • ... theme and variations from Schubert's "trout quintet", Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", Rimsky'Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" and Vivaldi's "Summer". The third is the first mvt of Beethoven's 5th symphony, "Morning" and this track from "Peer Gynt" by Grieg, Glinka Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla, Capriccio Italien by Tchaikovsky, an exerpt from Beethoven's 9th, Radetzky March by Strauss, the entire Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart and Vivaldi's "Autumn"...

  • ...and the 4th is Pachelbel's Canon, Largo from Händel's "Xerxes", Air on a G string by Bach, Albinoni's famous Adagio in G minor, Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto, exerpts from Holst's "The Planets"; Mars and Jupiter and finally Vivaldi's "Winter". According to the cover the box is a "Tring Production" (Tring International PLC) Licensed from Long Island Music Co LTD. That is all information there is to find on the box, nothing about performers or conductors or anything like that. Hope I helped.

  • Cool, but why is it so soft? :?

  • Very good! :D

  • one word GENIUS

  • Slay him! The Christian's son has bewitched The Mountain King's fairest daughter! Slay him! Slay him! May I hack him on the fingers? May I tug him by the hair? Hu, hey, let me bite him in the haunches! Shall he be boiled into broth and bree? Shall he roast on a spit or be browned in a stewpan? Ice to your blood, friends!

  • (The troll-courtiers): Slagt ham! Kristenmands søn har dåret. Dovregubbens veneste mø! Slagt ham! Slagt ham! (a troll-imp): Må jeg skjære ham i fingeren? (another troll-imp): Må jeg rive ham i håret? (a troll-maiden): Hu, hej, lad mig bide ham i låret! (a troll-witch with a ladle): Skal han lages til sod og sø? (another troll-witch, with a butcher knife): Skal han steges på spid eller brunes i gryde? (the Mountain King): Isvand i blodet!

  • 5 stars and favorite. I have this on record, but not as good of a version as this <3

  • Sounds like the Neeme Jarvi recording. I think he's conducting the Stockholm Philharmonic here.

  • not the gotenborg one? That's surely what my CDsounds like too? Ah well. It is amazing!

  • I must admit, I had no idea that this existed, but boy, am I gladI happened upon it!

  • thanks goodness to find a version with choir! and such an excellent one as well! So much better with choir, so much.

  • great version. thank you

  • It is good , I must play it on my synt :D

  • I have looked all over for this version

    where can I get it???

  • OMG! I feel like if can move mountains XDDD!!! I love this song, is hard to find this with chorus. Thanks For the upload

  • hi, I've been looking sooooooo long for this version. could you please send it to me? please?

    thank you!

  • this is great! nice one.

  • Slagt ham! Kristenmands søn har dåret. Dovregubbens veneste mø! Slagt ham! Slagt ham!

  • The chorus makes this piece WAY more epic. Sounds like a satanic chant, which suits the evil theme of this piece perfectly. The first time I heard this piece with chorus, since I usually heard it without it, it actually scared me.

  • It is still too slow. I think i have to upload other, real "good in the hall of the mountein king".

  • Please do so, and I promis that I will watch. It's always fun to hear a new version of a piece.

  • It is so much more powerful with the chorus, but hearing this gives me chills no matter what. I am not a fan of classical as a genre, but this is like a rock song to me--it's so intense.

  • Speaking of rock, I remember seeing a televised Boston Pops concert where Penn and Teller did an escape act on stage. The timing of their escape was such that they were able to accompany the Pops on electric guitars through the part that begins at the crest of the accelerando (circa 2:21 in this recording)

  • the sound is so low, but the piece is more than wonderful.........it's true, it's better with a choir in it. without a choir is nice but not as beautiful
