One thing I noticed they overlooked is including a text feedback whenever you hit a wall (for the deaf). Something as simple as SOLID! or OUCH! would have sufficed.

I think the fact that there are no character models is kinda good. When I play rpg's (except the exciting chrono trigger) I think up the moves in my head, because, frankly, rpg sprites are usually boring. Except chrono trigger :D

Is this like the Etrian Odyssey games where you had to draw the maps as you progress? I got Etrian Odyssey II a few months ago and for the life of me, I could not get the map drawing thing right. I like the Etrian Odyssey game and would have got a lot farther in it if I had gotten the map drawing part down.

I hate this game. It's deadly boring and injects nothing new into an ancient gameplay style. It looks (and even sounds) like a Commodore 64 game! It's more like one of those Dungeons & Dragons RPG books than a truly interactive game.

Pete, you're a smart man and of good taste!

I played the Wizardry games starting with the NES version of Wizardry I nearly 20 years ago, and back then you couldn't peel me away from it with a flame thrower. The market for these old school RPG's remains very strong, and the discrepancy between the average critic score and the average fan score on sites like gamespot proves that the old-school market is far from dead!

Well I'm happy to report I've been playing this for a month now. I haven't dared venture to the second floor other than for a quick peek. The first floor is difficult enough! Took me forever to find out I needed to give the statue a helmet. I think all my guys are level 5 right now and I'm about three and a half hours in.

I don't know, I just don't think I like the whole grinding, HUGE loss feel of rogue likes.  Etrian Odyssey, I mean I enjoy playing it occasionally for short bursts, but when I get one shotted by some random enemy in the beginning, it doesn't make me very happy.

I do not think I would like this game at all, but great review overall.

my thief always died first... no matter where he was positioned lol. i just kept cycling through new thieves when i first began so i could get money and armor. then i ressurected my favorite thief after i had a good chunk of money.

I am still crawling through the first tower. It gets progressively easier once your characters leveled up a few times.

Definitely worth a try for any rpg fans.

it's so unforgiving in terms of difficulty...almost unreasonable. I pretty much gave up when I died the tenth time at the vicinity of the tower entrance.

Overall a stylish and hardcore true role playing game that requires much patience to get through.

If you are having trouble, roll with my setup of 2 warriors in the front (dwarf and humnan), a thief in the back with a bow, and a mage which multiclasses as a priest and stock up on tons of jerky, this should help.

It looks very dark and medieval. Not colourful and cutesy like some RPG's. I like RPG's a lot, but when I can't tell the difference between my character that I'm suppose to be playing and a passing woodland creature, I get really turned off.
