Actually, Yes Mariah CAN. This simply isn't the music she's doing now. You can't listen to her current hip/hop sexy breathing tunes and then compare it to this old school adult R&B. If the fans would step up and stop bitching on message boards and let MC know you want an acoustic acapella version of this done at her next concert - she'd do it. Emotions didn't sell well and the higher and airier she went in vocals the more she sold. Now she's breathing out songs. Vote with your wallets peeps

Why doesn't this generation have a Mariah? Granted we still have her but think about it. The early 90s has Mariah, one of the greatest voices EVER. And the 2000s had Christina Aguilera. xtina and mariah have like the greatest ranges EVER. Their high notes are to Die for. But the 2010s have nothing to show. We've got.. Ke$ha and meat dress wearing Gag-a and almost talentless Rihanna. And the other singers are most OK but none of them have half as much talent as Mariah has in her fingertip.

@GarretMurtagh I honestly think Katy Perry is the only worthy one of being mentioned for talent in the 2010s. She's no Mariah or Xtina obviously, but she can have amazing performances. I think she just needs to learn how to use her voice better.
@emoandros Leona has a really good vibrato...But honestly when she belts, she sounds a bit whiny compared to Whitney and Mariah and weak. In other words, she lacks the kind of power that Whitney and Mariah have and the soul... To be perfectly honest, the world will never see another Whitney, Mariah, or Celine in a LONG time because what's becoming more and more popular now is dance-pop and uptempo feel-good music.

Mariah writes, produeces, composes, sings, and engineers all of her music and I dont think Christina is that involved. I know she writes some stuff but lately she has been out getting DUI's and partying too much. Mariah has stayed on top of her game for 20+ years without any major scandle...

@eastcoastthriller Why not? Christina is a spinto soprano who has a strong robust belt; she can go toe to toe and note to note wiith the best: Mariah, Whitney, Celine. She also has a soulful tone. I agree, sometimes I hate the way Christina uses her vocal prowess. She seems to try and sing out of her range and oversings almost always, but if her voice is kept her technique like it was when she sang on the "hope for Haiti" special and how she did when she first emerged, she would be much better

I loveee love this song, I think Mariah has an incredible talent. I'm not a fan the singer she is today with all due respect of course, but I do have all her old albums and I wish that she would occasionally go back to singing this way. But like some of you say we all have to change with time. Still not gonna hate on her since I can't deny her talent but I'm sticking to her records from the 90's.
@dolltwin I agree with you! At first, I HATED how she changed in the late 90s but as time passed, her some of her new songs have grown on me though I still prefer her early - mid 90s songs. I'm actually glad that she changed because it makes me appreciate her early records a ton more.

Why doesn't this generation have a Mariah? Granted we still have her but think about it. The early 90s has Mariah, one of the greatest voices EVER. And the 2000s had Christina Aguilera. xtina and mariah have like the greatest ranges EVER. Their high notes are to Die for. But the 2010s have nothing to show. We've got.. Ke$ha and meat dress wearing Gag-a and almost talentless Rihanna. And the other singers are most OK but none of them have half as much talent as Mariah has in her fingertip.

@eastcoastthriller Why not? Christina is a spinto soprano who has a strong robust belt; she can go toe to toe and note to note wiith the best: Mariah, Whitney, Celine. She also has a soulful tone. I agree, sometimes I hate the way Christina uses her vocal prowess. She seems to try and sing out of her range and oversings almost always, but if her voice is kept her technique like it was when she sang on the "hope for Haiti" special and how she did when she first emerged, she would be much better

I loveee love this song, I think Mariah has an incredible talent. I'm not a fan the singer she is today with all due respect of course, but I do have all her old albums and I wish that she would occasionally go back to singing this way. But like some of you say we all have to change with time. Still not gonna hate on her since I can't deny her talent but I'm sticking to her records from the 90's.

@dolltwin I agree with you! At first, I HATED how she changed in the late 90s but as time passed, her some of her new songs have grown on me though I still prefer her early - mid 90s songs. I'm actually glad that she changed because it makes me appreciate her early records a ton more.

I love this song! I'll be covering this song soon. But for now take a look at some of my recent covers: I don't wanna cry, Without you, Vision of Love, Emotions.
