i thought xl's sucked back in the 70's but I was a kid and had 2 stroke oil in my blood. Now i can apprieciate how good these bikes were.reliable as hell, handled pretty well. great for riding to your off road location and exploring trails. My bike was faster then the 4 strokes but my friends who had xr's and xl's often times were out riding while i was working on my 2 stroke or worse then that.stuck waitng for parts to come in.aaah the 70's. i miss those days so much
Im building a hardtail bobber out of one just like this. you wouldnt believe how cool this humble enduro actually is with street tires, a fat gas tank and a solo seat!
@Dilly1334 Sounds cool, I had a friend that did the same thing a to 350 once and had straight pipes on it too.I've also wanted to try street tires and go for a supermoto look and just leave everything else stock.
Pretty sweet! I've got a '75 XL350K1 with 2758 original on the odo. Hasn't run since the very early 80's when she was layed down. Have had her tucked away for quite a while now since buying, and am finally getting real close to bring her back to life. Should be lots of fun.
nice... i just got one.. its in good shape :) except my front fender is different . is that a stock or aftermarket front fender? and u know were i can find one. i think it would make the bike look better with that kind of fender.
thanks its a lot of fun to drive this bike especially because it is in such good shape and turns a lot of heads. you feel like you can do anything on it because its small enough to easily maneuver and go off road too.
I had this bike (silver) when I was stationed in Puerto Rico in the Navy. What fun times we had running around the island on this... I remember the sound being exactly like this one,
Beautiful bike, I always loved the sound of these, I was looking at one a motorcycle wrecker a while back but apparently it needed a new came chain, These auto adjust right? So you can't just adjust the cam chain.
very nice. my first bike was a XL250. love the sound the exhaust ( rusted like hell though ) and see the curve of the rear brake cable. Wish Honda would reproduce a 2009 version but in same styling abeit a flow front fender
I have one just like it in NY for sale 914-447-6533... thank you for the cool video, great bike...If you want another please let me know it has 6000 miles..
That poor old bike could use a little tender loving care in the engine department. Try adjusting the valves, tightening the cam chain, and look for a new stock exhaust on Ebay, yours has rusted and loose baffles. Looks nice though. Give it to me and I'd be glad to make it right.
do you shop on ebay? you dont find new stock exhaust systems. since this video was made we have touched up nearly everything on the bike and a sanding and repaint of the exhaust with high temp flat black. it's slick now!
There are 2 valve tappets intake and exhaust, for a total of 4, that are adjustable. They're under the rocker arm covers on top of the head, which are held on by two bolts. Each tappet has an adjustment screw, held by a stop nut, on the end of the rocker arms.
The cam chainis tensioned, when you loosen the bolt and stop nut on the back of the cylnder assembly. It's spring loaded. Loosen these, crank the motor through a couple times (DO NOT START IT) and then lock these down again.
thanks for the tips. I've been putting off doing that for while cause i wasn't 100% sure of how to do it. but now i also have a clymer manual for it too to help as well.
