Since about 1970 or so, houses were built very cheaply. Not so much in selling price, but quality of construction. Laminated ceilings, staples instead of nails, cheap drywall and etc. Go to the basement when someone is walking around upstairs and hear the cheapness! Laminated ceilings that sag and eventually fall. Older houses were built better but, ones that are 60-100 years old have very unsafe electrical wiring. Open a wall and you will likely see rotted wire mounted on insulators. Fire hazard
Now a couple of things they did right attack the fire from the front it in the back you never push a fire into unburnt parts of the house and this video doesn't show the beginning part of the fire put in my opinion ladder should not have been used
@eh7fdboy Agree, the ladder was useless. However, I slightly disagree with your "never push the fire to the unburned side". The idea behind this saying sounds great in theory. However, many times FF's are faced with limited options, an aggressive interior attack from the unburned side would have been the best for this situation. Seeing the fire already consumed both the first and the second story in the back, (2) 2.5" lines on the "burning" side would have made a KD.
They are not trying to save this building, are they? I Know that sometimes you let a building burn down if you can't save it but... That is really bad... You could have easily killed that fire from the garden side...
I wouldn't go in either, you can see fire in the first floor window before collapse as well as in the roof, looks like a surround and drown to me sadly.
the reason this house came down was bc these" big city" guys are using an ladder truck and pushing the fire down into the house. send a crew inside and fight it like real fireman and this house gets saved. bottom line.
not to mention they are 50 ft in the air and the heat/wind is making them lose 50% of their water before it hits the fire
One of the more ignorant things I have read. Lets hope you remain at the firefighter level and not advance to the officer level. I will agree that the ladder was largely ineffective because of the wind, but it wasn't responsible for the collapse. If they would have "fought it like real firemen" then there would have been a funeral or two to attend. For what? To save a sh*tbox like that? No thanks bro. You can die in there....no me.
@andy2009lc I would agree that the ladder isnt being much help, but thats mainly because of where it is. There isnt a lot you can do about that. Im strongly for interior attacks but an interior attack isnt the best idea. As soon as you make entry with that wind blowing hard and holes on the back side now u just forced a bunch of oxygen into the fire and its gonna burn threw that lightweight building material even faster. Not really worth risking your life to save the garage.
@andy2009lc I'll second dfox, you are a moron. Only an idiot would try to do an interior attack on a structure that's already collapsing and most likely contructed with lightweight wood trusses. You also don't "lose" water when you are throwing it WITH the wind. You're the kind of guy that would get others killed.
I'm guessing this building was built in the 1990" or later. The rapid collapse looks like shoddy construction to me - the cheap flimsy materials used today. Glad I live in a 60 year old house with real lumber and nails....
Is the white hat the IC? If so wonder why he doesn't have the small line FF's come closer to him - from my vast experience (!) and the angle of the video it looks like that might be a better angle until he can get some big water on that fire.
My house burned down same day, same month, same year, i was the only one home, chilling, when all of a sudden i heard a huge bang in my garage, thought it was one of my buddies who were coming over, but i then looked out my window, and saw cars stopping, and looking at my house, so i open the door to look in the garage, and EVERYTHING, was on fire, and i freaked and bailed immidiatley, it was scary as fuck, our house is being in the process of being rebuilt right now
for the rude a-holes with the comments.....like to see you do any better.unless you have experienced being a fire fighter you dont know shit !!! how would you like to collect dead bodies, pets and etc after a severe fire like this ! bet you would run like a f-en wimp.every day, every hour our fire fighters put there arses and life on the line to save life and limb, your retarded idiots !!!
i would hate to have seen or heard about what would have happened if they didnt pull the interior guys out earlier and they were inside when it collappsed because the cheif at this point doesnt look like he has a clue of what hes doing...its a shame
At 3:19 looks like the FF was telling the Chief we still have time to go in front door and push the fire outwards, instead of letting the whole house burn down
Gave up on the interrior attack too soon. It's definitely a training video, on how not to fight a fire. The aerial and the hose line on the side not in positon to be effective. If I was the homeowner I would be pissed.
i feel bad for the family who owned that house. that is also right down the street from one of my friends, who saw it. he also said that two kittens died in the fire, however i am not sure if that is true.
@cavelzen . This was a working house fire. An attempt for interior attack was made from the front but due to the floors and roof starting to come in an exterior defensive attack was made. The collapse happened several min. after the interior crews exitted. The arial stream had just started flowing as the video starts.
Shitty build homes.

light weight trusses. The contractor sold them a disposable house. Sad for the home owner and their insurance agent.

ahhh, 4:10 the manual firefighter finally gets the idea...reliance on machinery (ie: the ladder) show the laziness and ineptness of the crew.

Looks like staffing is an issue here. Aggressive attack requires enough people. Unoccupied building means firefighter safety first.

Where did these guys do there training !
All they are doing is washing the roof down.
They should be putting water on the seat of the fire. Poor show indeed.
