@yesterdaysblackbird hi. . .i've tried twice to post the chord pattern, 1st with the lyrics and then without but with the beats. . .but for some reason i get an error message. i'm ticked because i put a lot of effort into it and i don't know why they won't let me post. oh, i'm assuming you play, so let's try something different. . .
@yesterdaysblackbird OMG it went thru!! now explanation of the asterisk after Dbm. . .the everlys definitely use this chord for 1/2 a bar in the progression from A - F#m in both their studio & live versions. but paul does not use it in his acoustic version. . .a-a-nd he wrote the song. i hope you can dicypher the chord pattern. . .i tried sending it thru in a poem with chords format but it wouldn't post. good luck :)
@yesterdaysblackbird wait wait wait!! i made a boo boo. . .and when it comes to picking up chords by ear i don't make too many, so this is an historic occasion. you know that "asterisk chord"? scratch Dbm, insert E. . .i just watched a live version close up and the evs were definitely playing E major on their vintage acoustics. like i said it's just a half a bar but it's emphasized. sorry about that. it's not a difficult song to play but it's a great one!
@yesterdaysblackbird just one more thing, promise! the bass line for that now famous A-E-F#m progression in the bridge is A-G#-F# . . .that's why the asterisk chord initially fooled me (heey no excuses!) ;)
I understand he wrote this w/The everly bros. in mind. He often named them as inspiration & maybe this is his way of saying "thank you", only he knows, but they could not have done this song w/o his say so. I feel HE called them, just my thought. Then again, don't songs make us think. This one takes me back to simpler times and recall how Paul & John met & liked the Monkees when they toured GB. Not a bunch of arogant bums as some say. If I'm wrong, I hope to admit it, no hate here-JW
@joshbrowntube Demo versions like this were never meant to be masters. Hidden treasures, perhaps. This would be more at home on a Beatles Anthology CD. Still, if he made a professional recording instead of the Everly's it would still be a hit.
@stefanienoerholm If it didn't sound so "hollow" perhaps. But maybe that's the ringing in my ears and it sounds better than my ears can comprehend. But the classic Everly version rates as one of my favourite songs ever.
I've seen on other videos for this song...ppl are questioning the background vocals and question who it is....most def macca doing back vocals and main vocals...any who oppose?
Thank you for sharing. I didn't know the song. I read it was recorded in 83, but for me it sounds as though for 'Please Please Me' album. It could sound fine with the early Beatles.
This demo was recorded in 1983 (not the 70's) at the request of The Everly Brothers as they were looking for songs for their comeback album EB 84. It was the first single and regarded by some critics as his best song in a decade. Ed
Written in 83 as Paul has stated repeatedly. He got a call and was able to work on it quickly. As he said, "I didn't want to give them something crappy". He didn't, a purely brilliant song. Got it little kid, 27 and so much to learn. Hey, say hi to your mother for me. Smile, then say you are stupid. Thanks for your idiocy child. Oh, and I won't read your lame drivel infested retort you clueless schmuck. Ed
McCartney should get out of music and get a real job.

McCartney "gave away" more amazing songs than many have ever written and recorded. Amazing.
