Agree.The original with Gino Padilla is better by a mile.This version is incomplete,it doesn't contain the "mall scene" where the characters accidentally bump each other while window shopping.I hope a clearer version will surface soon :)

I also beg to disagree. I worked for McCann advertising from the late '80s up to '95 and I am very certain that this was only broadcasted this ad in the SUMMER OF 1991. "Just a Smile Away" was used in 1990 and another one was used before that.

It doesn't matter how good this ad was now, knowing that the new Kimerald ad RUINED THE NOSTALGIA of the original. Spongecola's version DESTROYED THE ORIGINAL MEANING OF THE SONG. This should have never been remade.

Well, my aunt worked for the Philippine Refining Company (now Unilever, the manufacturer of Close Up) and the 1989 Close Up commercial featured Ateneo basketball star Jayvee Gayoso. The "Closer You and I" commercial ad was made in 1991.

The first ad that captivated the hearts of Filipino teens at that time (me included) was the one sung by Jaime Garchitorena entitled 'Just A Smile Away' and composed by Danny Javier of APO.'Closer You and I' came a year later. Thanks for posting classics like this! It was in 1991 when I first saw this. I really like the Close-Up ads of the 80's and early 90's. The jingles are very romantic and cool..and lovers then crossing the thin line between being conservative and being liberal.
