  • god this fits. i've fantasized about it, but I never plan on making anything of it. And its not beautiful. it hurts people around that individual. again, it really does exemplify the emotions of it by the fact that there was nothing to it. he just does it without making a scene.

  • "I'm going to kill myself tomorrow" is a quote taken from Le feu follet, a great french film which Wes Anderson is a big fan of.

  • suck my cock

  • Luke Wilson, I love you. Seriously.

  • esta escena es la mejor de la pelicula...se me pone la piel de gallina!

  • I feel like doin this now

  • :~

  • Awesome scene, awesome song, awesome film. Easily in my top five favorite films.

  • So moving. i cry each and every time. but it's worth it

  • @indigopixie I usually tear up at the funeral scene.. It's like the whole movie just implodes into a supermassive star of awesome and beauty. Que the slo-mo. Wes does it again. Amazing.

  • Luke Wilson will never be better than he was in this scene. Ever.

  • One of the best scenes ever made but why the hell does he appear completely shaved in the hospital? :(

  • @Tedipiquer they finish the work

  • i think we've all been at that point where we're staring ourselves down in the bathroom mirror, in throws of a breakdown, wondering how on earth we've let it go to this. god, i love this movie so much. thanks for uploading.

  • As weird as it sounds, the blood dripping down his arm at 1:45 is oddly beautiful.

  • I never really thought much of Luke Wilson until I watched this movie. It proved to me that he really is a great actor.

  • Unbelievably Powerful

  • Best scene in the whole movie. Gave me shivers.

  • cant say I haven't close to doing the same

  • This is just goddamn depressing but fits so well

  • 0:23 Ashton Kutcher look alike.

  • isn't it weird that owen wilson tried to kill himself in real life.

  • Mark Mothersbaugh is a master of all music

  • Perhaps the only film in which Ben Stiller isn't annoying to me....

  • @brikered Pretty sure about every character he plays is generally supposed to be annoying.

  • audio and visual heartbreak with an addition comedic edge which I never thought possible. As much as I wish to describe this moment with words... it is beyond them

  • Opinions were very mixed on Nirvana when they were current. Same deal with Faulkner and many other artists. Anyone ballsy enough to say someting and try to create a definitive style will elicit mockery and some derision. I doubt Anderson's importantce will be all that controversial in 30 years. Ya never know.

  • i would rate the royal tenenbaums #1 as well. break it out every six months, or so. touches me every time. brilliant in every fashion. wonderful to watch a movie again to truly apprectiate it's cinematography. every scene in the film is fantastic.

  • who?

  • @bashirkashmiri that is literally the worst story I've ever heard in my entire life.

  • ends with my favorite line of the movie. i love how wes anderson was able to take a scene like this, completely depressing with obviously no comedic value, but turn it around and bring back the feel of the film. with that one, short, interaction between dudley and margot you know that there is still fun to be had in a deeply serious moment such as this.

  • Such a sad scene, at the same time though, I remember Idiocracy, one of the other best movies ever made :)

  • whats beautiful about suicide?

  • @wowthatsbs nothin', but the scene is exceptionally well crafted

  • Wes Anderson is god

  • He should have said "I'm going to shave myself tomorrow".

  • The one thing I don't get... Why does he say "I'm going to kill myself tomorrow", then there's a jump cut, but still in the same sequence, and he tries to kill himself right then?

Why say "tomorrow"? Does the jump cut represent a time change within the sequence, meaning that he said he'd kill himself tomorrow, thought about it for a sec, and then just decided not to wait? 'Cuz that's the only way I can think to explain it.

  • @AYoungWoman you're fucking stupid.

  • @Chameaulino1 Gee thanks that was helpful.

  • @AYoungWoman I think you're on the right track. To me, he says it because he has barely begun to contemplate it, then, there's a flash of him, still with his beard and long hair, which might represent his past catching up to him. He therefore decides to do it then and there.

  • @MindBloodandDark That sounds about right. Thanks!

  • @Spartan41405 don't man

  • this is why Wes Anderson is a brilliant director, you watch this amazing character try to kill himself with an amazing song by a guy who did 'kill himself' underneath it and its shocking and sad and beautiful, and yet i still laugh at Dudley's face when he walks in. A beautiful mix of comedy and tragedy, very well performed. Excellent film.

  • You know, you can be mentally unstable without shaving off your hair..

  • @kakake12 No shit, I'm assuming the reason he shaved though is so he'd look his best at his funeral.

  • It's difficult to watch, but it's so worth it. Possibly one of the most realistic AND beautifully put together scenes in cinema history.

  • It would not surprise me i've watched this 100 times

  • Wes Anderson is my hero.

  • Yes. The greatest film ever made. There is no doubt.

  • I watch this everyday and think of suicide

  • 6 years after this scene owen wilson tried to slit his wrists :|

  • I watch this everyday

  • Bill Murray deserved an award just with the way he ran in the hospital in this scene.

  • @deadpatronus

Bill Murray deserves an award for existing.

  • @Z0mbi3J3sUZ He made a career out of playing narcissistic assholes and the occasional quasi-rapist.

  • Would make make more sense if he had said, "I'm going to shave myself tomorrow".

  • You know, I wanted to feel bad for Luke Wilson during this scene. But then I remembered his character Casey Kelso from Thats 70's Show and I couldn't get him out of my head

  • @thenoise08 thats who it is

  • @robotchicken47 the actor who plays dudley (stephen lea sheppard) is in freaks and geeks, but he's not martin starr. he plays Harris! <3 freaks and geeks.

  • The kid reminds me of martin starr in freaks and geekssoooooo much

  • 69 (giggle) people either:

    Haven't seen the movie or

    Are complete assholes

  • this shit gives me chills everytime i see it.

  • Dudley's reaction is priceless

  • the saddest song i have ever heard in my life (and i've heard them all) and the saddest scene i have ever watched (and i've seen them all.) definitely a masterpiece that only someone like wes anderson could have created. thank you wes, for your genius. you always combine perfect music with perfect footage.

  • @jenzeppelin you have seen every movie and heard every song? i am going to then assume that you are 300 years old, and you have never slept or left the house. that's some wild stuff.

  • Maybe the best illustrated human breakdown ever made.

  • @Noisedroid The opening scene of Wristcutters: A Love Story is pretty similar to this, too.

  • @Noisedroid Check this out too then: /watch?v=nGL9voGtVpA

  • Elliot Smith definitely sets the mood with his unique sound, but everything about this scene simply works too well; and Luke Wilson is without question an under-appreciated actor.

    Very well edited clip!

  • All the time i watch this scene I think this three things:

    -So sad.

    -Puppy eyes.

-Why can't you just end the shave?

  • its weird that his brother who's also in the movie tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrists years later.

  • @d3221ck He wasn't just in the movie, he co-wrote it.

  • elliott was suppose to make a closing track for the movie along with this one, but he ran off and stabbed himself in the heart twice... 'another odd thing to notice.

  • @d3221ck

1st - The Royal Tenenbaums came out in 2001. Elliott Smith passed away in 2003. His death obviously had nothing to do with his involvement. He had enough time to do so if he so pleased.

2nd - It was an track for the movie, not necessarily the closing track.

3rd - "Elliott Smith" is not a band but a solo artist who used a band when needed lol.

4th - All of these are coincidences! :P

  • @mrblueangeldood, oh i know they were just coincidences, but thanks.

  • Luke Wilson looks awesome with a beard and long hair.

  • Lol, there's not enough blood there for him to a) nearly die and b) pass out XD

  • @evilboob666 LOL YOU SOLVED THE MOVIE!

  • @evilboob666 Congratulations! You solved the movie!

  • Dudley where is he?

    Who?

    ^^best part

  • @Kry7o maybe it was 11:59 there and at 12:00 he did it

  • why did he kill himself???

  • @Victoria79239, i dont want to post a spoil, just watch the movie. its favorite movie ever, also elliott smith is my favorite band. you can't go wrong, ehh? ;)

  • Ironically enough, this film/song has saved me from slashing my wrists.

Life is odd. And that's what makes it worth living (for me, at least).

  • I've never seen anything so beautiful

  • "Dougly, where is he?"

    "who?"

    hahahahah

  • @fulltimeweirdos

to the contrary english is extremely hard and is actually one of the hardest languages to learn to those who don't have it as their native language, and befitting might be a better choice. ironic would have some more insightful meaning (like if Luke wilsons character had died from heroin like elliot smith)

  • @MetalicB0x yea, i am from france so sorry if english is bad ok.

  • @fulltimeweirdos

moi aussi:P its cool, I didn't intend to come off as an asshole.

  • @MetalicB0x Elliot Smith did not die from heroin. He argued with his girlfriend, and stabbed himself in the chest with 2 knives, and still lived. It wasn't until his girlfriend pulled out his knives that he finally died later in the hospital. I find your comment kind of insulting towards Elliott, regardless if he was a drug addict or not.

  • This is an insanely underrated movie imo, it's one of the few I can think of that made me laugh and cry.

  • I made dudley's t-shirt

  • i'm going to kill myself tomorrow

  • @Fishilisation No! Don't do that!

  • @Fishilisation

    Bon voyage.

  • this movie was pretty lame i must admit. Elliott Smith's music is my favorite though of course

  • Hmm IMO when he actually said that "I am going to kill myself tomorrow was meaningless,as he was shaving after along time and was sure going to miss his beard (focus on the flashback it starts from the scene where he has his beard) then he sees the flashback of sad hurting events and actually cuts himself. "

  • I laugh my ass off every time I watch this scene. I've found it to be the most darkly humorous scene in film history. It's all so random and surreal. Trimming his bushy beard all the way to a rough stubble, announcing he's going to kill himself tomorrow then does it right there, and then the cherry on top, the look on that goofy kid's face when he discovers Owen Wilson. Wes Anderson is a genius.

  • @TytusTolshemLives That's not even Owen Wilson lol.

  • @DJd3monic It's a Wilson, whatever, they're both washed up.

  • @TytusTolshemLives True you comment is still true though.

  • BILL MURRAY!!!

  • Who say "no" at 0:09 ?

  • @MrJackieboyz , bill bury

  • please look at my Needle in the Hay parody. :) watch?v=Z1f8mhZgnB8

  • Anybody that doesn't get the reason he says he's going to kill himself, only to act on it a second later, shouldn't be watching this movie.

  • Okay guys, listen up:

Yes, he does say that he'll kill himself tomorrow, but then all of the recent (and not so recent) past catches up to him, and he realizes that he wants to kill himself sooner than tomorrow, so he uses the razor blade to do it.

Please let everyone know so they can stop asking.

  • @cgmsdh wes anderson heard that line in a play and liked the way it sounded thats why he says it

  • @cgmsdh I read it more of that he literally spends more than a day in the bathroom, what we're viewing is essentially a montage of this 24-48 hour breakdown. Everyone has their own interpretation though!

  • @cgmsdh Not quite. In the commentary on the DVD, Wes said he basically copied this scene from a foreign movie he saw where I guy said "I am going to kill myself tomorrow." Kind of weird how it actually makes the scene work even though it doesn't make any sense.

  • @grizzlygarner it makes sense if its ever been you looking in the mirror.

  • @cgmsdh Wes Anderson in the commentary said that it was actually a mistake, there is no deep meaning behind him saying that. It was a mistake in the scene that people made sense of themselves.

  • @cgmsdh

don't forget that he later says he wrote a suicide note. it's possible he took the night, wrote the note, then attempted suicide the next day

  • @cgmsdh The line actually comes from a french film from 1963 called "Le feu follet" or "The Fire Within", which according to Wes Anderson on the audio commentary influenced the movie.

  • @cgmsdh no, actually its a quote from Le feu follet, the film that inspired Tenenbaums, so let everyone know so they can stop asking

  • @bzt464 you're correct but the quote is also used within the context of what cgmsdh says. It's not just completely a reference without its own meaning

  • @cgmsdh its a reference to a line from the movie, this film is inspired by.

  • @cgmsdh You're full of shit

  • I always thought that Beasley was thrown from the car when they swerved on their way to the hospital... am I the only one?!

  • Amazing editing

  • @lethalegg lol. nice video. watching it with an ipad.

  • What i love about this movie is that nearly every actor in this film is seen as a comedic actor, this movie brings out the better side of their acting

  • when i first saw this when i was like 8 years old i thought that kid was laughing.

  • I'm sorry to ruin a near-perfect scene, but why does he say that he's going to kill himself tomorrow and then attempts then and there?? Over than that, a great scene.

  • @MyAlexDelarge reference to french film le feu follet

  • @MyAlexDelarge ikr!! my friend just told me that he was too depressed so he did it right then and there

  • check my needle in the hay video for when you'll be an aging wannabe emo , v=Z1f8mhZgnB8 <3

  • As dark as this scene may be, the brilliant character portrayal by Luke Wilson accompanied with music from the brilliant Elliot Smith makes it a haunting, memorable piece of the film.

  • in all seriousness though, the film europa does a suicide scene like this so much better

  • making movies is stupid and boring.

  • @leucomaofthecornea

You are one crappy troll. Try harder to make a comment that would actually cause a flame war lol.

  • where is he?

    who?

    lmao

  • this scene is soo haunting

  • Remember kids, down the road, not across the tracks.

  • This is my favorite movie I have seen at least 50 times and I know there is people out there who have seen it more , I like this a lot I can really relate to this scene

  • I didn't like the rest of the movie very much, but this scene is just perfect.

  • @zxcvnmtgb you are retarded.

  • who!

  • A completely perfect scene. Perfect song for this part. Couldn't fit it any better.

  • No fucking oscar nods... not a single fucking one.

  • @staphinfection that means its good ;)

  • @whiteboie79 you should try watching the actual movie so you can sound like you actually know what you're talking about. Everyone's talking about his performance across the entire movie not just this scene

  • @whiteboie79 no, you clearly don't understand.

  • @whiteboie79 He was a talented and successful celebrity who was brought to his knees by the most mundane of things that everybody experiences at least one. It's forbidden and difficult and impossible. That's what's emotional about it.

  • @whiteboie79 you my friend are an idiot

  • There's nothing poetic or romantic about suicide, stil, Anderson captures it in exactly this way - well, it's kinda ironic, maybe cynical, but still it's a thing of beauty...

  • This scene and the one in RULES OF ATTRACTION are the best suicide scenes Ive ever seen..

  • Am I the only one who noticed that they didn't wipe the shaving cream off of his face?

  • i love the way Anderson made Chas and his kids wear sport outfit, as if he was trying to make them be Richie (practicing all day) +the fact they always wear the same color as their dad - Chas way to make sure they stay on "his teams" (unlike his father).

  • Utterly chilling. Such as masterpiece of a scene.

  • I find him increadibly handsome

  • i just found out that luke wilson is actually younger than owen wilson.

  • 1:06 looks like the start of average shaving cream/razor commercial

  • i never thought i'd cry watching this film, but i did

  • Everybody wants to be Ritchie and he just wants them to be happy.

i always wonder though what's worst, to have a margo in your world or to don't have a Margo at all.

  • Eric Cantona at 0:34?

  • Portland stand up!

  • dudley's face 2:03

  • Wait just read previous comments I get it now
