I have been drag racing since the Street Machine Nationals were held at Englishtown Raceway Park in the 80's! Nothing I have even driven compares to the Instant sledgehammer torque of an EV Drag Car. I can only compare it to a diesel truck with six turbos with the launch of nitrous!
2012 will bring hundreds of EV Drag Cars! Some with ET's as low as 7 seconds. Electric race cars are breaking records around the world in all classes and arenas!
Electric cars are great... for emissions. If someone could literally sleep on the ground 6 feet away from you when you launch at a drag strip, you're doing it wrong.
That is perhaps the most boring run I have ever seen. If that's where we're headed then when it becomes all-electric drag racing you won't see me at the stands or catch me watching races on TV. Not having the sound of those loud and powerful internal combustion powered cars would kill it for me. Now that's not to say that I won't willingly drive an all-electric sports car sometime down the road but I'll always miss the sound of the engine.
I think electric cars are for gay people and nitro methane is for real men. But I will admit that sooner or later, electric cars will beat the nitros. What a sad thing to think about.
Electric is much more technological than combustion, all comments against electric are just old people that hate new tech. grow up people nice job Lithiumaniacs keep the good work.

@1320merc It may not have that V8 sound, but it also doesn't have the lag a gasoline car does off the line. The instant torque of an electric car is something gasoline can NEVER reproduce.

hmm I don't know what people see in electric cars.... are you serious? I love forced induction as much as the next motorhead, but come one 100% torque all the time. I would love to make a tune curve look like that, electric motors are insanely effiecient. The batteries are the problem. but you saw that launch, and it is whisper quite

aerodynamics is important at the top too. maybe make a fiber glass cast off an EV1, on a super light frame body. BFgoodrich g force drag radials on the lightest rims, single 11 on a diff. keep it all under 1000lbs and it will move.
Most of the weight is the 500lb battery pack, the new pack will reduce the weight 300lbs. The frame is light enough for this car. 10.08 & 127mph is not slow! We will see 9's before the summer is over, and next year with the new HV motors and controllers we will see 7's. Building a drag car under 1000lbs is almost impossible, I can see 1500lbs with a Jerry Bickel frame and a complete carbon fiber body.
@Lithiumaniacs nah it's easy if you try. it's a matter of thinking light throughout. about letting go of old ways of doing things. for a light car you may not need those monster wheels. so that drops weight just by aiming light. same with batteries. less car weight need less battery to move. even saves money.
@Wopadas can't it be both? :) I am encouraging even greater EV things. I believe it and I am right. 10 seconds is a pretty fast car, no doubt about it but 2600lbs is just not light. at all. that means there is plenty of opportunity for them to get much faster.
Can we find out more about the Camaro? Is it a fiber glass body or a mix of original sheet metal and fiber glass?
