1) Spend years developing algorithms and techniques so they are efficient and fast or...

2) Start using all the techniques and algorithms already developed and save yourself a lot of time.

Like any sport, science or hobbies, is a waste of time to reinvent everything when you have access to the latest developments and continue from there.

I've taught someone I know who's got some sort of mental problem (I don't know the specifics), and they can do two layers of it, and with a little longer I reckon I'll teach them to do the whole cube. So yeah, anyone can do it, just not everyone can do it in 10 secs.

alright so how do these rubik's cubes start off, is there a certain pattern that all competitors start off with and thats how they time it

is it just random

because i always thought wat if one rubik's cube was more complete than another etc.

they are randomly scrambled but the jury inspects the cube for solved parts. There are numerous methods used for solving the cube, the most commonly used among speedcubers is the Fridrich method, and starts with making a cross, but that doesn't take much time, so mostly your time is dependent on your reaction time, how fast you twist, and sometimes lucky cases (which cannot be seen at inspection prior to solve)
