FFXI has A TON of quests Missions on a more serious epic endeavor. I feel for those that didn't experience FF11 in its golden age. Every area was well thought out and beautifully captured the essence of a greater purpose and made you feel infantile to the monsters that lurked within the shadows. Once you have gained a long standing presence with in FF11 you indeed feel attached to the world and its inhabitants. A new respect for the SE team emerges.
Is it too late to start? I've been hearing all about how it's different from WoW (and I got bored of WoW) with all the different classes taking roles that they weren't designed for (thief tanking or something?).

well i play on the fairy server if you join it i can setup you up with some gil and help you out with any questions i should be on sometime this afternoon to evening char name lesliee it is with two e's tip glaka, humes go in bastok mithra and taru taru are in windurst and elvaan in sandoria if you want a ring from that nation nice ring for low level jobs if u r a mage i recommend taru mitra or hume - hume being avg in all jobs
Its just about like WOW. u customize your own character u can be 5 differen races humen(humen), galka (orc) tarutaru(gnome) mithra(cat women) and a elf(u know) and then u chose your class, Warrior,red mage,white mage,black mage,thief, then after a few lvls u can choose between more classes like summoner,dragoon, blue mage,ninja,samurai,paladin,ranger and many more then u chooes your server. its about 10 diffrent. and then you choose your nation there is 3 diffrent i play in bastok.

i loved this game used to play it when it first came out, i reached 66 then got bored becuase the gameplay sucked major balls, the graphics and designs are incredible...but... gameplay was horrible too slow, the battle system is gay, items prices are too high, too much chinese farmers and casting spells and what not was annoying... and the only good players are japanese and well most of them dont like to group with others ( if you know what i mean ) .
the farmers are gone and it nakes the whole game more relaxing. nobles tunics price went from 10mill to 400k. doing nms is possible again without being camped out again and most off all the new expansions are fun ^^. jos.. isk it seemed they finaly got that they aren't alone in this game. not all but 90% of em at least
I love this game. I hated it at first but I'm really starting to enjoy it. However I don't think saying the game is too complex is right if anything the game is convoluted. As in needlessly complicated. Chess is complex this game is just not user friendly at all but yet again I still love it for some reason.

Dancer and scholar are also more useful then what you think. Dnc has it's multi-uses and sch, if done right, can be the god of DoT. On top of that, WotG is still in developement. ToAU didn't have everything it has today the DAY it came out.
Dancer and Scholar beat the living daylight out of Corsair and Puppetmaster, sorry.
Also, Wings of the Goddess is still being developed as we speak. I doubt it can beat all the things Treasures of Aht Urghan gave us, or even sea, but I wouldn't crack down on this just yet.

OK, FFXI does have a pretty tough learning curve (there are no hints what to do in the beginning), but once Vana'Diel catches you it´s awesome.
I´ve played WoW and Guild Wars before and started FF XI about a month ago and there aren´t many players in the starting cities any more :( But nontheless, if you do start FF XI as an adventure (meaning not to rush through everything but take your time to experience and explore) the game is sophisticated RPG Gold.
There are a lot of things not to like about FF XI. No swimming, no dancing, no jumping. The grafx aren't really that great and the interface sucks wind. Not to say it doesn't have its good points, but there's a lot of bad there too.
Yea if there is a body of water you cant cross it unlike WoW. There are only certain weapon skill that let you have a jump motion. But there all you can do. For Jumping. There is no swimming what so ever in FFXI
LOL FFXI doesnt make u progress thro the game w/ quests like WoW does. if u prefer t kill and lvl up and chat w/ cool ppl join FFXI, if u like non stop questing and cartoonish graphics join WoW. i play both, but if i had to choose, i'd choose ffxi and day. yea u dont know wut ur doing at first but thats the same w/ all games, give it a little bit man. plus unlocking new classes is so fucking awesome, better than having 8 different chars for different classes, one char, lots of classes FTW, FFXI!
See WoW doesnt have good graphics. FFXI really does. i play both for abt 2 yrs now. but i pefer FFXI over Wow anyday. and tarus look better then gnomes

I bought a DvD drive just to play this game... I went to install it, then fell asleep at my keyboard. When I woke up I was excited to play... I ran in circles for about 20 minutes looking for my first quest. It is not new user friendly, and not one person was also online to help me figure out where to get started. I unistalled, and went back to playing WoW. Where at least, the first quest, was 5 feet in front of you, and got you on your way... I love the FF franchise, but they suck bawls at MMO.
The first quest btw is right there in the same place too. Theres even a green marker on the map. Ive played wow and it is fun but it feels too easy and less epic then ffxi. Also the amount of end game far surpasses wow and i heard lots of confirmation from ppl that played both. I also like all the customize you can do on one char. Why be one char with one job when one char can be 20 and you can mix and match 1 job for main and 1 for sub. Keeps the same char online for more community.
wow is more for pvp players anyways, the pve sucks ass, but with warhammer coming out lol all the pvp players are gunna go to it! yay ffxi and war ftw!

A expensive game doesn't keep cheater's away. Suppose they made this game free to play, how many cheater's would ruin the game then? With the monthly fee it makes cheaters turn to free games.
Same here..i stopped playing because of the monthly fee, i didn't mind paying, but all my friends that I played with did, so they stopped. You have to pay because it costs money to run all those servers.

Damm i miss FFXI, used to play this alot a few years back before the big gil farmer inflation epidemic. I really want to go back to Vanadiel but after lvling DRK/PLD/BLM/WHM to 75 and doing most of the endgame it really discourages me to do all that again jsut for Treasures of Aht and Wing of Goddess. I recently got into FFXI and i have to say i love it, i get more into this then i did with WoW. I feel like i am accauly in a story in this game and that the world chages with what i do. This game is a Final Fantasy game even if it is an MMO it still has the feeling in it.
I stopped playing the game a long time ago, I'd say at least 5 years now. There is no way for me to get my character back since my original play online account was deactivated. I still remember my characters name, just not how to spell it. It was Vyhilo.
If you stop playing for about .. a year is it possible to revive your old account? I cant find any information on their website.. Would really like it if you respond as fast as possible =)
Just so you guys know, you can still revive old accounts. You have to call them though. The number is on there web site. I think you only need your name and the credit card you used? or an address or something that relates you to that account.

I left FF XI 4 years ago and managed to get back into it plus was able to reactivate my character from back then. Looking forwar to get back to it!!!!!
though to be fair i am 16 myself but i noticed a big difference between the people of WoW and FF XI, majority of people on WoW are gankers/PK if your on pvp server or you just can't get that rare mob or long wait quest mob as some jack ass camps it, FF XI has rare mob waiters but thats expected anyways ;p, but with WoW having two sides against each other, one of your towns could have all their npc's killed by the other side which is a real pain.
I played FF XI a few years ago, then i went to WoW for a bit, got lvl 70 on my shaman but i got so bored as at 70 all there was really left to do was, PVP to get the top armor ;/ then i started to miss the story and atmosphere of FF XI and i've just recently made a new account and gone back ^^, WoW is good if you don't like story plots or long leveling, but wow is very repetitive after u get past 40, FF XI is i suppose but i think its better for more mature players, Wow is for younger people :P
LoL the game is really fun but after a certain level u spend more money then you make. But it will take forever to level after level 47. trust me am a lvl 75 throughtout the game took me 2yrs i stoped playing be4 the expansion came out. and am thinking of reloading it on my pc again. I played FFXI the first month it came out. I never got the expansion, and I was young then. I only got level 50, and it took me nearly 1 year. This games graphics were really cool. And was a good experience. WoW however is blowing this game out of the water, and you can tell by the ammount of people leaving FF to play WoW. WoW is up beat yes, but I think both games are good. I've done everything I can on WoW, plus Endgame. So i'm thinking of going back to FFXI.

If u want to play FFXI on ps2 u just needa find the game and the hdd modemn to plug in the back of your ps2 and then u need a wire to connect from the ps2 to your computer so u get connection. hope that helped ^^ ex ps2 ffxi player, Bahmut server lol... truly miss the game tho

for those who are interested you can buy the vanadiel collection 2008. it has all the exspansions plus the game itself. if your wondering why theres no ps3 version. i dont know but the ps3s backwards compatable. you might need to get ps2 software from playstation store because of some probs w installing. yes you do haugh to pay a seperate fee from whatever internet exspences you have. everyone else is gay :P

yes you need the base game as well as the first three expansions in order to use this. you do not need to have gold in order to play this, but it does have it's own seperate fee of 12.95 a month.
Man, seeing this vid makes me wish I had stuck with it back when I first started at launch. An mmo hitting its 5th anniversary is quite an accomplishment. I always admired it for its highly convincing fantasy world. Nothing in it really felt borrowed.
I used to play when it first came out but the billing thing went crazy and they doubled billed me. Is it now worth to come back again a try the new FF11 for the Xbox 360.
Just wanted to add that all ps2 expansions work on ps3. Just in case you owned or planned on getting it. Been on ffxi for like 2 years now. Its the only MMORPG i play!

LOL FFXI doesnt make u progress thro the game w/ quests like WoW does. if u prefer t kill and lvl up and chat w/ cool ppl join FFXI, if u like non stop questing and cartoonish graphics join WoW. i play both, but if i had to choose, i'd choose ffxi and day. yea u dont know wut ur doing at first but thats the same w/ all games, give it a little bit man. plus unlocking new classes is so fucking awesome, better than having 8 different chars for different classes, one char, lots of classes FTW, FFXI!

I bought a DvD drive just to play this game... I went to install it, then fell asleep at my keyboard. When I woke up I was excited to play... I ran in circles for about 20 minutes looking for my first quest. It is not new user friendly, and not one person was also online to help me figure out where to get started. I unistalled, and went back to playing WoW. Where at least, the first quest, was 5 feet in front of you, and got you on your way... I love the FF franchise, but they suck bawls at MMO.

The first quest btw is right there in the same place too. Theres even a green marker on the map. Ive played wow and it is fun but it feels too easy and less epic then ffxi. Also the amount of end game far surpasses wow and i heard lots of confirmation from ppl that played both. I also like all the customize you can do on one char. Why be one char with one job when one char can be 20 and you can mix and match 1 job for main and 1 for sub. Keeps the same char online for more community.

wow is more for pvp players anyways, the pve sucks ass, but with warhammer coming out lol all the pvp players are gunna go to it! yay ffxi and war ftw!

dont buy this game play wow i used 2 play ffxi i played it for bout 2 yrs on 360 it sucks there is nothing fun about this game im not tryin 2 dis the game cuz im a hater it is just a really boring game lol sit for 6 hrs waiting on a party that lasts bout 30 min is not fun wow is alot more fun n pvp servers are like besiged all the time its crazy u can solo easly and armor style is not limited becouse ps2 has limited amout of memory loleverything in ffxi looks the same everything in wow

A expensive game doesn't keep cheater's away. Suppose they made this game free to play, how many cheater's would ruin the game then? With the monthly fee it makes cheaters turn to free games.

Same here..i stopped playing because of the monthly fee, i didn't mind paying, but all my friends that I played with did, so they stopped. You have to pay because it costs money to run all those servers.

Damm i miss FFXI, used to play this alot a few years back before the big gil farmer inflation epidemic. I really want to go back to Vanadiel but after lvling DRK/PLD/BLM/WHM to 75 and doing most of the endgame it really discourages me to do all that again jsut for Treasures of Aht and Wing of Goddess. I miss the great community it had compared to the more recent mmorpgs. And quit with the FFXI vs WoW bullcrap, its like comparing pong to space invaders...

I recently got into FFXI and i have to say i love it, i get more into this then i did with WoW. I feel like i am accauly in a story in this game and that the world chages with what i do. This game is a Final Fantasy game even if it is an MMO it still has the feeling in it.

I stopped playing the game a long time ago, I'd say at least 5 years now. There is no way for me to get my character back since my original play online account was deactivated. I still remember my characters name, just not how to spell it. It was Vyhilo.

Just so you guys know, you can still revive old accounts. You have to call them though. The number is on there web site. I think you only need your name and the credit card you used? or an address or something that relates you to that account.

though to be fair i am 16 myself but i noticed a big difference between the people of WoW and FF XI, majority of people on WoW are gankers/PK if your on pvp server or you just can't get that rare mob or long wait quest mob as some jack ass camps it, FF XI has rare mob waiters but thats expected anyways ;p, but with WoW having two sides against each other, one of your towns could have all their npc's killed by the other side which is a real pain.

I played FF XI a few years ago, then i went to WoW for a bit, got lvl 70 on my shaman but i got so bored as at 70 all there was really left to do was, PVP to get the top armor ;/ then i started to miss the story and atmosphere of FF XI and i've just recently made a new account and gone back ^^, WoW is good if you don't like story plots or long leveling, but wow is very repetitive after u get past 40, FF XI is i suppose but i think its better for more mature players, Wow is for younger people :P

LoL the game is really fun but after a certain level u spend more money then you make. But it will take forever to level after level 47. trust me am a lvl 75 throughtout the game took me 2yrs i stoped playing be4 the expansion came out. and am thinking of reloading it on my pc again. By the way good vid man keep it up.

If you liked FFXII this is definitely a good choice. The battle system in FFXII stems from FFXI, but you'r allies will be smarter, well hopefully :)
It's the most challenging MMORPG I've tried.

LOL, I deal with mean players the same way Squall from ff11 dealth with them, I just say whatever, and carry on, havent played WoW, and I dont think I will any time soon, but I wont deny that it looks interesting, but as a LOT of ppl have said, the real challenge is in ff11.

i used to play WoW, got bored, recently i tried LOTRO and it was eh, then i went to best buy today and bought this game, havent tried it yet, patches downloading, i bought all the expansions, cant wait to try it tommorow (i did the trial on the XBOX, which was ok, but it seems like it will be easier on the comp.)

I played FFXI the first month it came out. I never got the expansion, and I was young then. I only got level 50, and it took me nearly 1 year. This games graphics were really cool. And was a good experience. WoW however is blowing this game out of the water, and you can tell by the ammount of people leaving FF to play WoW. WoW is up beat yes, but I think both games are good. I've done everything I can on WoW, plus Endgame. So i'm thinking of going back to FFXI.

If u want to play FFXI on ps2 u just needa find the game and the hdd modemn to plug in the back of your ps2 and then u need a wire to connect from the ps2 to your computer so u get connection. hope that helped ^^ ex ps2 ffxi player, Bahmut server lol... truly miss the game tho

for those who are interested you can buy the vanadiel collection 2008. it has all the exspansions plus the game itself. if your wondering why theres no ps3 version. i dont know but the ps3s backwards compatable. you might need to get ps2 software from playstation store because of some probs w installing. yes you do haugh to pay a seperate fee from whatever internet exspences you have. everyone else is gay :P

yes you need the base game as well as the first three expansions in order to use this. you do not need to have gold in order to play this, but it does have it's own seperate fee of 12.95 a month.

Man, seeing this vid makes me wish I had stuck with it back when I first started at launch. An mmo hitting its 5th anniversary is quite an accomplishment. I always admired it for its highly convincing fantasy world. Nothing in it really felt borrowed.
