  • tanto ligar bonito mundo a fora otário vai usa o Steadicam no banheiro kkkkk burro

  • Awesome, it's what I need!

What model is the rig? Is it expensive?

    Cheers

  • That's some heavy artillery man, I gotta admit I've seen these Merlin videos and I've been getting comparable results using my $38 Cam Caddie. I've captured some amazingly smooth shots with the Cam Caddie.

  • At 0:58 I came to know that it is a mirror.. LOL!

  • Looks like it works pretty well, but the sled itself isn't balanced correctly. Too much swaying. Other than that it didn't seem to bounce up and down too much as you moved around. Are there any adjustments as far as weight goes or was it based on the weight of your particular camera?

  • for a steadicam that`s homemade the result is very good

  • complimenti...

  • Nice bicycle ; )

  • Not going to lie, this video makes me dizzy.

  • What's the socket block size? Weight capacity?

  • whats with the weird metal belt

  • Nice flat!

  • what is that for a camera ?

  • Awesome hob man! Din you built the articulated arm as well? That must have been serious work!

  • dude, would love details on design if you feel so inclined. Great job.

  • '

wow 3 tv monitors with one computer,,,

    coooool

  • @bestamerica great for video editing ya basic

  • wow thats a noisy arm

  • that frikin MINT can u make a tutorial on how to make it THANKS

  • man... no sabes ni como agarrar un stady!!!!!!

  • very cool. keep smilin, too ;)

  • nice work!

  • Sorry, but this is actually really bad. Your rig looks ok from just eyeballing it, but you definitely need practice.

  • AMAZING!! how much was it to make it and can i buy one from you?? If not can you send me the design?

  • 0:52 lol making love to the camera?

  • wow nice ap is this where you live or work at ? i am from Brazil in south america and i just love this channel from down here

  • you're sexy.

  • Well done dude! Very very good job for a home built rig! And nice Specialized as well haha!

  • Damn it! i don't like your project, but i like your apartment.

  • how do you keep the cam from rotating and how do you keep it pointing where you want, doesn't it seat on a swivel joint that rotates freely?

  • @thecruiseliner It doesn't rotate much because the camera weighs a lot and naturally wants to stay in the orientation that it is, due to inertia. In other words, physics.

Of course, you do still have to point it in the direction that you want. It takes practice to do this smoothly, though.

  • The vest is verry verry nice ! did u built it or is it purchased from somewhere?

  • how big is the bearing u have on your "monopod" I bought a monopod to modifiy it into a glidecam. The top section is pretty thick. Almost as thick as urs.. around an inch or so. Any idea if there are bearings that size?

  • nice pot plant at the window lol

  • haha it's only tomatoes

  • is it possible to post a video on how you built it?

    It's a very good job!

    Well done!

  • Is it possible to know how you built it?

I would love to try it with my XL2

but I dont know how to build one

and I dont have 5000$ to buy one

    It would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you

  • good job

  • who is your name of the camera?

  • canon xl2

  • thanks!

  • That's amazing, genius. and hilarious.

    Great job. Thanks for posting.

  • Dude, your arm is set way to strong for the weight. You're better to lift up just a bit than to try and push your rig down. Check out the demos of the profesional operators to lear a bit of form and posture. Also get your right had off the post and on the connecting spar.

  • you should paint the arm black so that it matches the camera and vest... just a thought.

  • Dr. Octopus would be proud.

  • cool nigga cool!!

  • great job!

i would like to build a steadycam but I don't know how to stop the vertical movements (for example when i run).. to stabilize you use only the mainspring of the mechanical arm or you got mainspring also in the main tube under the camera?

  • search "DYI Merlin", this guy created a cheap dyi merlin that is alot more effective than this. sorry. But this is based on the pilot. The pilot is amazingly steady. this is just averagely steady.

  • the merlin has no z-axis stabilization. this is a completely different design

  • but for some reason it still appears more smooth than this.

  • @shred444 Hey, im from the Netherlands and i am building exactly the same. im almost done with the arm and gimbal but we dont have a spring. where did you bought it if i may ask?

  • holy crap. you actually built the mechanical arm? that's a first.

  • wow, best homemade steadycam i've seen so far and i've seen quite a load. of course the image will be even more stable the longer you learn how to use it :)

is there some way to get my hands on the plans for that thing??

  • My hats off to you, kudos... get a wide angle lens... steadycam works best with a wide angle lens! Shhhhsssssshhhhhhhhh dont tell anyone!

  • it looked cool, but it looks worse than hand held

  • don't listen to these assholes, that thing is nice, very cool that you made that. Great job

  • this fucking fails

  • lol nice poster above your monitors :P

  • just one problem with your thing : completly unstable...

  • You put some work into that. Nice job...

  • looks like its working fine to me

  • lol watch in high quality smart one

  • How much did your arm/vest cost? I got a sled and would like to get arm/vest. Can't afford commercial ones and looking at cody's design. What kind of tools did you use to make your arm? I have dremel , that's about it. not sure if that's enough.

  • that's homemade?! Holy snapper! wtf you have 3 lcd's?! Dude! Amazing :)

  • great job!

  • you have to practise the walking. the picture could be better.

  • That was sick. It sounds pretty expensive, though.

  • its not a steadicam. its your mothers sex toy.

  • Aren't you a bot from Yahoo chat?

  • i dont even know what that means or what you're referring to.

  • I would love to build one could you help me out.... even a part list...

  • Hey Jonathan,

Nice fabrication...how's it been working for you? I've been fabricating Steadicams and Cranes, Dollies etc for a while...arm looks great...how long did it take you? Did you have a struggle with spring tension?

    Great work.

  • Would it be safe to say that the suit you're wearing (to hold the arms) was an altered mtb upper body armor (used in downhilling)? I couldn't help not asking because I do biking AND videos and that is a gnarly bike. Props on the setup, I only use a tiny glidecam2000.

  • Good work!

i like the picture over the pc :D

  • *Applaud* hows about a tutorial or something? You'd be famous 0_0 and helpful!!!

  • I disagree about the arm being in the wrong place.

The PRO Series Steadicam I have used has the arm coming from the back just like in this video. If it works, then he did is job well.

Good for you for putting together this rig.

  • After a year, does it still work? Why dont u make a video how you build it? Or show the parts.

  • Using a steadicam is not about looking good.

  • It's about smoothness of operation. +1 to you, sir.

  • @oskararnarson most definitely. But the shots you get are pretty epic.

  • @oskararnarson lol, thats is a pro steadicam. They use it to film sports.

  • this fuction to my Gy DV500 JVC??

  • your parents will be very happy with all those scratches in the corridor walls..

  • is that a huge pot plant at 2:01, lol??

  • you're gimbal need to be more higer

  • oh my God, what is the principle engineer technique for steadicam? I can't understand how is it possible and how's working like that?

  • inertia. the sled with the camera on it is heavy and therefore doesnt want to move. The springs on the arm are strong enough to hold up the sled and isolate it from your body.

  • how much?

  • Cost about 600 USD for the first rev you see here. My second rev cost about 1000 USD in parts but never got finished. I plan on continuing when i have more time

  • I think that i have to be MORE Steady...

  • how would you compare the quality vs. a more expensive rig. ie. pros & cons.. thx

  • I've never used a more expensive rig. This is prone to some vibrations on the sled due to the thin aluminum. My newer version will be made from strong carbon fiber

  • Nice Bike man! looks like we share an affinity for both biking and film! you should put up some biking videos! you doin XC or freeride? nice camera by the way, right now i need to save my money for a camera instead of new bikes or parts!

  • XC mostly although i broke my leg 6 months ago on it and havent rode seriously since

  • sorry to hear that, i feel your pain, last year i broke my neck and could only sit around and watch youtube all day. well if you ever in cleveland check out raysmtb, its got some good xc stuff i sometimes ride for fun, but havent really had the time

  • Nice plant in the corner....... is it????

    Good rig dude.

  • hahahah no it was a tomato plant. It died

  • shocks this is neat...the test footage reminds me of panic room and the shining!

    good job!

  • Holy Mackeral, I love your view out the living room-where is this ? Anyway, nice rig, now CLEAN THE APARTMENT before you film it for millions to see! LOL.

  • Boston overlooking the backbay. Want to clean it for me?

  • Sorry, not even if you paid me. Last time I cleaned an apartment was for the trade up to a house.

  • Is there any tutorial to built a steadicam that is as awesome as that one? Or where all the plans coming out of your head?

  • check out homebuiltstabilizers[dot]com

They'll give you all the advice you need

  • nice rig, nice apartment. u had a cool editing system with 3 monitors. how do u have or why i guess? can you explain some about it? is it 3 pc's? just 3 monitors? what good does it do.? ill bookmark this page and come back to it every once in a while

  • its a mac G5. All three monitors are connected to the one system. You can drag things between the monitors. I usually keep the preview windows on one monitor, the timeline on another, and effects in another. Gives you more space to work with.

  • im 15 and am getting serious about video editing and ive been using a pc for a long time and i hate it. About how much would a G5 with 3 monitors cost me?, thats really cool though, it would probably be really hard / expensive to set that up

  • the system was about $4000, and each monitor was roughly $350 a piece.

The 3 monitors isnt necessary. Start off small. Buying the mac is the expensive part. They dont make the G5 anymore, they call it the Mac Pro. An iMac is a cheaper way to go... a little over a thousand dollars. Holiday present? :-)

  • in my family thats like a couple holiday presents, but is the imac more powerful than any windows? or equally as some of the best windows? and did you buy final cut pro ( i assume this is the best software) or does it come with it?

  • it doesnt come with it. its quite expensive. a good starter is iMovie. whether or not a mac is more powerful than a pc is a running debate between everyone...so I cant answer that. Get a job and start saving up money. You'll have enough in no time. :-)

  • thanks ill look into it

  • Trust me you don't need a mac to get into serious editing. That is a common misconception in the editing game. Let me guess, you want to use Final Cut Pro, right? Vegas, Avid or Premiere Pro will do the same exact job, but novice people only seem to recognize Mac's and Final Cut as the industry standard. You should figure out why you hate pc's b4 jumping ship. More than likely you need a new pc strictly for editing. I use a pc and it works fine everytime.

  • I TOTALY agree with this post. I have been doing digital film editing on PC using Pinncale Studio to start with, and the lasy 2 years I have been using Sony Vegas Pro.

As long as you have a great set of ramm, multi hard drives, good processor, and proper inputs, PC can be just as good, if not BETTER then Macs. A few years ago, maybe Macs were the shit for this. But now? There is no real difference in performance... just personal prefernce.

  • is sony vegas pro the same as sony vagas platinum? have i purchased the wrong one? i personal dnt like mac. price wise is not worth it.but i have had trouble rendering out in sony vagas as quicktime files.

  • Sorry but vegas does not touch final cut...

  • Well, Vegas coupled with something like Adobe After Effects equals or even out does Final Cut Pro. Vegas is a GREAT linear editor (especially when mixing in audio) but its abilities in graphic arts and special effects cannot even begin to compare to After Effects. Final Cut Pro is nice because of its simplicity and "pretty-ness" but to a skilled Premiere/Vegas/After Effects user, it is not any better of a program.

  • thats home made...wow it looks like you bought it exept fot thw whit and silver

  • dude that looks fun...

  • very nice. be interested to see how much it costed altogether.. im no expert but maybe the center of balnce needs to be a couple of centimeters lower?

  • Dear Jonathan, Do you think I could borrow your steadicam to use in my movie with my 6 actors? If that is possible. It would be great.

    Thank you for your help

    Regards

    David Goulard

  • please give me some info on how to build it! haha! nice poster btw!

  • So what did it cost you to make?

  • about 700 bucks. im working on a new one that'll cost about 3000 in materials when finished

  • wow thats alot ill just buy one frome the ciny city for 100 bucks chaeaper

  • i assure you, the results will come nowhere near what you'll get from this.

  • how did you built that?

  • lmao and my friends think my nikon DSLR is huge

  • heh, there are cameras three times larger than this XD

  • haha yeah definitely

do those use mini dv or hard drives?

  • miniDV. It's a canon XL2

  • really sweet - post the plans bro

  • nicely done! i want to build one of those too..
