I play violin. What I want to know is what size viola would work best for me if I decided to play viola right now? I'm 5 foot, 2 inches tall. I play a full sized violin. Should I start on the smallest sized viola there is and work my way up until I feel comfortable?
I would try a 15 or 15.5 inch. I'm not particularly tall, and a 15.5 works. thankfully it's been set up so that it has the same sort of finger scale as a full size violin. i didn'tfind it hard to adjust.
@griffonstomp 15 and a half is what most people play, u just don't hear of them as much cuz they arnt the famous people. Most of the famous people are usually very tall with long arms (cuz of ethnicity and race) and they need a 16 or 16 and a half cuz of their size.
Very good vibrato and shifting but don't let your confidence in these areas take away from what you need to work on with regards to intonation. Your a talented guy though!
I play Viola to, but I'm new, first year...I am learning Pirates of the Carabean...I know its spelled wrong...But its really hard, lots of stuff i havent learned yet are in it.
lol take your time you'll get it ive been playing since i was 10.. just stick wit it and you could go places.. well if you lived in cali i'd tell you to audition for the jr philharmonic.. i've been there since i was 13.. so ya viola rule.. and keep it up!
Dude your good I am just now learning how to play both viola and violin. A challenge but I think your videos are giving me insperation to be as good as you. Keep it playing your good!
Your C is so warm-sounding. Mine has darker undertones I guess. Nice shifting and chords. If only I could change positions that much and actually have good intonation!
How many violas do you have

You know what I've noticed in orchestras/symphonies I've played in? No males. Only female violists. So keep playing! x]

Ah, that's why. Let me know if those 7 boys still play the viola when they graduate.

Another thing. Be careful with your vibrato. It's quite tense and a bit wonky and your fingers are quite stiff. Nice though.
