@toastedbagels78 Well if you'd watch the movie you'd know that in the battle of the Death Star, the scene immediately preceding this one, R2D2 was critically damaged. In this scene we first see R2 completely restored, and Luke is merely happy to have one of his friends back and in good 'health'

So yeah, if you were dead, and someone brought you back to life, I'm sure you'd be a little bit cheerful and excited too.
