  • that bevel is uneven :(

  • thats crazy my mama has told me for years never give anyone a knife or it will cause hard feelings so i guess i can trace that back to my roots :)

  • Love this video.

  • Now that is a beautiful knife handle!

Want to give it away? :), jk

    Thanks, Jesse

  • Ray may have only given him a silver coin. But he also commisions his blades. You can sometimes buy them from raymears.com

  • Time to make a knife! :D

  • these guys are business partners, he made him some publicity on tv

  • yeah

  • he got 10p

  • im like...jizzing thru the whole damn video. i just want those knives so bad!

  • mmm...ettan

  • "I made a kick ass knife for Ray Mears and all I got was a lousy silver coin"

  • i used a dremal with a cuting tool to carve through the bone it took more time but it still woorked

  • I think Ray's the only one that practices that tradition lol

  • 2 piece

  • both those knives are lovely, but id like to know just how in the hell you carve the inside of an antler out..... any ideas????

  • @frackcha i think he carved it out of two pieces of antler and then glued them togeather.....:)

  • @frackcha You drill it out, then use a hole file to shape it how you need it. Or, if it's a large, one piece handle, you can burn the tang into it by heating it to red hot, then pushing it through a pre-drilled hole that goes all the way through the handle. That way you get a nice snug fit. Hope this helped!

  • You can occasionally get these Julius Peterson blades from Rays site although obviously being a handmade item they can sometimes be out of stock for a while. Making the handle is no mean feat though!

  • Im a horrible survivalist I watched this video once and didn't know that that was Ray Mears.

  • what a beautyful knife

  • IF YOU ARE SERIOUS AND REALLY WANT TO LEARN, WATCH RAY

IF YOU WANT TO KILL THE TIME WATCH OTHER CRAP

  • lol a silver coin... a single silver coin?

  • Do you put the oil on before or after you cut and put the brown powder stuff on?

  • @PipeGamer The linseed will polymerise and form a solid layer, a coating to protect the wood. The powder has to be beneath the coating.

  • "It's tradition to give a silver coin for a knife back in the day"

    *passes blacksmith silver coin*

"This is a fucking quarter you prick."

    *trollface*

  • @VidMasterflex funny depending on the idea. an actual silver quarter could be worth 20 bucks or more, so depends on if he meant color or material. and it could be traditional to add a silver coin to the price for good luck or something like that.

  • mmhmmm. litte ettan lös på kniven gör den la go! mmm

  • Anyone know the knifemaker he refers to at the end when he shows the puukko in the antler sheath?

  • With this kind of knife, any murder becomes classy. In other words, Bear Grylls style with a touch of Sean Connery.

  • The guy is like "its a 10p from England, i cant spend this shit here... fuck sake... this guy knows nothing"

  • that knife looks expensive

  • @azzorzer Ray stocks that knife on his site, Julius Pettersson Knife ( No Handle ) for £40, Bargain!

  • I like Ray Mears, his videos are awesome. Things is, he onlys eats leaves and berries...why's he so fat?

  • @d245470k

That's what comes of living off the fat of the land....Or a fat pay check and eating out every night. :)

  • @d245470k Suddenly, a wild Ray appears.!..Im sure he enjoys his fried chicken as much as any other.

  • @dandotreillydot42058 No shit smart arse.

  • when he gave him the coin , the maker had a face like " you cheap bastard " lol

  • At 2.01 what is the tool called he used the hammer on?

  • @MirnSedai its the makers stamp. good question

  • @MirnSedai An anvil

  • does anybody know about how much a knife like that would realistically cost?

  • @timd789 anywhere from a couple of hundred.... to couple of grand

  • @timd789 Probably less than £60 if you made the handle yourself like ray does.

  • I hope he paid more than just that silver coin, the cheapskate

  • How did he make the holes in each section so they perfectly fitted the tang

  • Just received this exact blade from his website. It is the nicest and sharpest thing i have ever seen.!

  • @speedyninjafrazer

hey dude can u give me a link for it? i am a young knifemaker and always looking for good blades ;)

  • @Time2RockUrLive Hope this helps mate raymears.com/Bushcraft_Product/427-Hand-Forged-Knife-Blade/

  • @kickme97 thank u dude :)

  • @Time2RockUrLive do you make the blade as well or the handle sheath etc, and buy the blade?

  • @roglet123

buy the blade ;) i dont have the money for professional forging

but the rest is handmade (and very nice :D )

  • I've watched this several times also. Love this video.

  • I watch this video often, just so I can look at the knife again. I love it!

  • OMG that handle is just amazing looking.

  • wow..

  • This blade-smith is a pro. Look at how easy he makes it look. O_o

  • This is one of the most important videos about knives. It is very inspiring for those who want to start making knives!

    Congratulations!

  • @OSOfacas I don't know if you know but you can order mr Peterssons blades on Rays website

  • if Ray really made that handle all by his wee self, he did a beautiful job. It's not easy.

  • @ShawDAMAN

I would think atleast Britt Marie and a couple of lackys would be around, pretty sure he didnt rivet it....

  • beautiful knife :)

  • i like the way julius says "yeah"

  • what kind of glue does he use

  • Wow! The second puukko knife is beautiful!

  • Who here is a venture scout

  • whats is the names the songs in the video?

  • Comment removed

  • is there a videoo on youtube how these knives are made? its amazing artwork

  • @cekinxxx Yeah, you just watched it

  • @DreamsCatcher101 yeah another one i meaned

  • @cekinxxx check maddwarfworkshop :)

  • @balnazzar10 thnx

  • "yeh, yeh, yeh, yeh"

  • How can people dislike Ray Mears? I want to see those people do something Ray does. Props to Ray, he is the man!

  • i want that knife!

  • @blinkvirus

Hehe, join the club mate: )

  • the handle and sheath are antler! a sheathe made of antler.

  • ive always wanted to be a blacksmith. but its not easy to find one teacher.

so i became a goldsmith, and i dont like it enough to feel complete.

  • damn... being a blacksmith would be so cool. such a beautiful trade

  • Beautiful sheath

  • What kind of glue is used?

  • @Falsitive I think he was just using normal PVA glue. I suppose it would do the job just as well as any other, especially as he rivetted over the end with a hammer to secure all the handle materials together. Another benefit of PVA is that it goes off clear and won't detract from the colour of the materials used, plus it's easy to trim off the excess.

  • Great movie, i love simple knives, wood, antler and carbon steep - these are materials for knife with soul. I also make knives - if You want to see them please visit my youtube profile

  • is it just a superstition when someone gives u a knife, cause i got a knife n didnt give a coin

  • what it doesn't show is in between the five seconds they show him sanding the handle....they bring out a belt sander and a professional.

  • Any know what kind of jig the knife maker used in this video? i can't make out the brand, too fuzzy.

  • @JesusFuckingChrist84

    It's a Tormek.

  • @cultresearcher

Is it really? Didn't know the made a unit like that, or is it just the jig I wonder...

Either way, thanks mate. I'm gonna have a look at it. ^_^

  • ray gave him a 1p coin, how stingy!

  • what a beautiful handle...until he ruined it

  • bollocks he made that handle himself

  • What a beautiful knife!

  • does anyone know what type of glue or epoxy is used for these, and where i could buy it

  • what do cut the antler with

  • @1840218403 A fine-toothed hacksaw blade should cut the antler nicely.

Cutting lines on the flat edge of the small antler peices could be filed or sanded down, however they would give the edge a roughness for the glue to grip.

  • I want to order the blade then make the handle, where can The materials be purchased?

  • @theflyfishkid there are tons of sites, google it ! an practice first ! our you will fuck it up!

  • that's not a knife

  • Wtf is this I tried watching a Metal Gear Solid video and this came up

  • he killed rudolf

  • Does anyone know what the smith does to the blade at the very end when he hammers his logo into the blade?

  • @MirnSedai just a pre made stamp

  • @MirnSedai c

  • Where can I order one of these from him?

  • I think anyone can achieve that sort of skill in anything. It just takes patience and the will to do it and having fun while doing it. Can't do anything special without having fun.

  • that knife looked like a peice of shite

  • @wwwNooBcom If your shites look like handmade swedish knives you should probably get that checked out.

  • @wwwNooBcom kinda like you mother

  • Great, great video. If you were inconsistent in knifemaking, this is the cure.

  • Yeh He did lol But what a Great looking Handle

  • See how fast he formed the shape!!??

  • hahaha fucking priceless, the look on his face when he looked at that coin!!!! :D

  • what a gorgeous knife!

  • anyone know what to do in the secondary to become a blacksmith ?

  • @ZZZhiloZZZ take design technology, may also be called wood and metal work or resistant materials

    concentrate mainly on metal

  • Part of the blade looks a little crooked. I dont mean the edge.

  • @Ayatron34 gi

  • @Ayatron34 Ayatron34 is a faggoty ugly African BLACK ! !

  • i like white tail deer antler handles, nice knife by the way

  • what does the tail got to do with the antler.. ??

  • white tail deer is a species of deer

  • Sami knives seldom have laminated blades. They`re often made from truck-springs.

  • @mwchinbach either that or they are made from carbon steel files.

Some rich sami deer owners even had knives made from Damascus steel.

Here is a swedish website showing the kind of supplies that modern swedish knife-smiths use

  • Beautiful knife and sheath.

  • @ EinarWolfBrother

I supose it would depend on how long one could live on that one coin.

If the US were to pay off all its debts (currant and future) in gold and silver, a one OZ silver coin would have to be around $2,500.00 per.

However, at currant rate neigher would I.

  • @anarchylogic are you stupid? the price of a silver coin is $26.

  • @feeshmaninpisa What I said was in responce to the relitive value of a silver or gold troy oz . Fiat money price is manipulated by political and/or banking interests, what I was talking about was the spending power, not the fiat price in dollars necessarily. Search youtube for; The Creature from Jekkly Island lecture by Griffin, values can be quite relitive depending on the economy. EG: Zimbabwe hyper inflation one oz silver there is something like 100 trillion of their dollars, or more.

  • marvelous job !

  • For some reason i dont think i would be happy with just a silver coin for all that effort. :D but cool video i like the handle especially.

  • i like the knives but i dont like that knd of sheath

  • That was amazing!

  • Whats that for an Oil?

  • Used motor oil.

  • any kind of oil can be used :)

  • Does it prevent the wood from absorbing water?

  • stop bitching, did you see the end product?

  • he had a face like " you cheap bastard" when ge recieved the silver coin lol

  • ahahah so true mAn xD

  • @glockcocker bout to say but you got there first... he does look pretty disappointed!

  • @glockcocker hey that silver is worth more today than it was then

  • @1x93cm You do have a point there!

  • @glockcocker Na dude, when you give someone a knife as a gift, they are to give you a coin so that the knife doesn't cut the bonds of friendship.

  • @glockcocker

"yeah ray and what about the tradition of paying for stuff"

  • @efsq the guy looks so pissed off when he gives him a tiny bit of silver for a hand forged knife :P

  • great vid thank you

  • This is a great video! and i really got to say that his anvil has a sound as sweet candy!

  • Well...I don't think that leather spaciers and antler could be named as "shit" but I respect your point of view. I like lappish style knife, not only for their performances, but also for all the history they have behind them.

  • @RedAssBaboon666 I'd hardly call one small coat of linseed oil over finished.

  • i want to become a blacksmith when i grow up but only as a hobby.

i am afriad that when i'm older, knives would no longer be in existence and everything would be cut with a laser.

  • cant cook without knives... a knife never needs a battery, just a sharpen every now and then. Trust me, cutting lasers will not be in general public hands by then. Start now, take a class, it's more amazing doing it than watching!

  • there will still be good quality knives

  • Julius should have safety glasses on. Molten hot steel on your eyeball isn't going to be a nice thing...

  • but then he'd have a sweet eye patch! Argh... just kidding

  • 10p for a handmade knife?

  • mears all the way

  • Mears rocks - Grills is fake

  • says who?

  • Marry, Shag, go on a cruise with?

    1. David Attenborough

    2. Ray Mears

    3. Bear Grills

  • I love that guy

  • Proud to be living in sweden! =)

  • Agreed!

  • Cool little Bush-craft knife.

All of Ray Mears shows are good.

Nice job on that handle Ray.

  • how do they rivit the handle on i dont understand

  • he just pounded the excess metal flat

  • oh i see thanks

  • Anyone know why the smith lightly hammers the anvil after every session on the knife? like TING THING TING ting TING TING ting TING TING ting

  • i'm guessing its to reposition the hammer in ones hand with out stopping?

  • its to knock the slag off the hammer. stops deposits of crap building up
