I am trying Slippery Elm tabletts right now and I don't feel any cramps at all. I've just started having IBS due to a very bad bout of Gastroenteritis, which left me with post infectious IBS. So far so good. No feeling of pressure, bloating or gas. I'm definitely thumbs up on this.
Hi there. I am glad to hear it. I started getting IBS badly after gastroenteritis too, years ago. I remember my mother telling me I ought to take it, but I refused, thinking (because of the name) it would be slimy or something. I wish I had now!
Wow, you started with IBS the same way I did. So there is such a bad animal after all. I could hardly think of eating when I was going through the worst of the gastroenteritis, which left me with lactose intolorence and IBS. Every so often I do get unwanted digestive upsets, but most of the time I have the constipation part. Sometimes I feel frustrated by this condition, and other times, unbothered by it. Guess it goes with the territory, huh?
**Thank you** for posting this video. I was doing a YT search for IBS help and until I saw this I had never heard of slippery elm. I recently purchased some in capsule form, and have been taking it 3 times a day before main meals. It is the most soothing and effective thing that I have found. None of the drugs I've been prescribed have done anything to take away that general chronic grumbling and discomfort, but this does :)
@BellamyBlue Oh, I am very glad it has helped you, Bellamy Blue. :) I have also read recently of similar soothing effects if you take 4000 milligrams of Fish Oil per day (that is 4 capsules, if you buy the 1000 milligram capsules.) yes, it is a lot, but I have found it really helps with bloating and pain. (They are also quite inexpensive.)
have had ibs in 11 years. Sometimes I get crazy with the enormous pain you get. I have constipation all the time, can get a week before I get to poop.
Where can you get hold of this product? do it works even for people with constipation?
@crippa1983 If you Google Slippery Elm Food there are lot of online places that sell it, usually Health Stores. It has to be the Powder form. If you make it thin, it helps with diarrhea, if you make it thick, then it helps with constipation.
i'm wondering how this worked for your Canadian friend and how its still working for you 2 years on . thank you for sharing your (& Moms) experience .
Hi there, I find that it does give me relief if I take it absolutely regularly - one cup each evening. If I stop taking it, then the effect wears off quickly.
My IBS has been in a nasty phase for about 2 months now. I bought the exact brand you have this morning. It's amazing! My stomach is settled, my intestines don't hurt, and I'm not nauseous from acid reflux. This is the best I've felt for ages! I can't believe I've never heard of it before, would recommend it to anyone!
Thank you so much for your tip!! I ordered it from the internet!Luckily they can deliver it to my country!!I hope it works cause I am suffering from IBS 5 years now :-( :-)
I have the tourette syndrmo but in my case it is not with motoric problems perhaps one or two tics nothing more in my case its with anxiety... and addictions of all types its terrible here its not good place to talk about... at least when i do videos i feel confy and tranquile i mean relax... i never took pills by the way my pills was te KARATE beleive it or not it is very good against anxiaty also tai chi...
I have IBS too! Well, atleast they think i do.. I live in sweden so i dont think i can get that Elm food :( And the doc didnt give me any meds either.
I bought the same brand of the powder as yours from H&B, just had my first lot now, it's a bit like horlicks isn't it? but I have got the unmalted one....lets hope things improve now....
I went out and got it this morning (in capsule form) and I took 2, 370mg capsules, and within the hour I felt refreshed and it added bulk. It seems to be making me go more often but I dont know yet because ive only taken 1 dose of it so far. Im in the US and found it at a health store called "Clarks", you can maybe find it at GNC type of places.
Thanks for that MindGame, I was sure it would be available in the US.
It can be used both to stop diarrhea and in bigger doses to act as a mild laxative, so I suppose it depends on the strength. I only take the liquid, so I am not sure about the amount in a tablet. I'm glad it helped!

Thanks for the tip on the use of Slippery Elm. My mother suffers from occasional IBS. I'll be sure to pass this information on to her.

Well, I have been on it 3 days now and so far so good, thanks Eluned :)

That's great, from reading up about it, I doubted I was the only person in the world it would help. :)

You should be able to order it I am sure, type Slippery Elm Food into a search engine and have a look what comes up, I found a lot of information.
I can't say anything I have been given by the docs has really helped, but this stuff has.

I have the unmalted one too, I started off with two a day, and it certainly did help.

Wow - thanks for this - this is such good information! Here in the States I was only familiar with Slippery Elm as a sore throat lozenge...
lorrieatLDP 3 years ago
Wow, I never knew it was a sore throat lozenge, lol.
It is very good stuff, I have to recommend it. :)

hi
I also have IBS and i'm wondering how frequently to take it and if it will stop bloatedness and the runs?
tomw362 3 years ago
Taken as a drink ( 1 teaspoon ) it is supposed to stop diarrhea, taken as a thicker drink to act as a mild laxative.
Pepto Bismol is also good if the diarrhea is very bad, and you can still take the Slippery Elm with that.

Have had a really bad week with my IBS and acid too, I will give it a go , Thanks :)
Signedpeach 3 years ago
It's really remarkable, do give it a try. I started off with one in the morning and one at night and then just one at night.
ElunedLOTR 3 years ago
Going to H&B tomoz, will let you know how it goes, hope you are feeling a bit better, my anx has been really bad too...
Signedpeach 3 years ago
The powder form is supposed to be better than the capsules, but I think either helps. Hugs x Anxiety makes it worse.
