  • will you trade or sell this knife cutlerylover?

  • most people dont know that most knives made in china come from factories where the workers are almost always working in slave-like conditions. no air ventilation, air conditioning, unsanitary environments, so many hours for so little pay as well, stuff like that. its unfortunate but thats reality. obviously not just china

  • Your comment about paper being just thin wood was a good point, but it's actually more like thin, dirty wood. Almost all papers contain a certain amount of clay to give them a smooth surface, and that clay is what is responsible for a lot of the edge wear.

  • Hows this knife holding up?

  • nice knife! thinking of picking one up :)... um sub zero stablizing takes years at a constant temp.... not sure that any company actually does it properly, maybe like cold steels marketing i think. But yes 440C prop heat treat is nice... getting tired of my carbon blades

  • Yeah... people bitch about steel types wayyyyyy too much lol. I think people forget most of the time that they are using knives made of STEEL to begin with. All steels are great for cutting and are super hard and durable materials. Sheesh. For every day cutting you don't need your super-duper carbon steels.

  • The jimping issue is why I love Spyderco jimping so much. Their jimping is deep and sharp, but closely spaced, so it works nicely goved or bare handed! Awesome review man. I'm looking for a nice small camp blade, personally (because I know you have experience with both) would you recommend this or the RAT-3?

  • My bark river is very thick but cuts like a fillet knife the convex edge it comes with makes it insanely sharp.

  • i thought 440 c didnt have any carbon in it

  • @samstterhamstteer all stainless steel has carbon in it, well I shoudl say MOST...steel is made up of iron and carbon, usualy less than 2% carbon

  • @cutlerylover hm you learn something everyday

  • @cutlerylover

I thought ALL steel has carbon in it? Right, if it does not, like spyderco H1, it's considered a ceramic. Is this correct?

  • If only my Finnish knife store carried better neck knives...

There's only these really expensive multi-hundred euro knives and then there are these 20-euro meyercos. And it's just a slap in the face to know that a meyerco costs about 7 bucks in America, and dollars are worth less than euros. Btw, I do think you should get a Meyerco neck knife to review.

  • he says its clean now (ie the guy you sold it to)

  • I would be very interested in this if it came with a 6 inch blade.

  • Check out the javalina it is not 6" but is almost 5.

The closest blade to 6" is the elk, and that is almost 7 and is a different style with a guard.

  • I'm betting that Feather scalpel blades are not made of 440C. Most of the surgical tools are apparently made of 316 and 304, but after all most surgical implements are not blades.

I agree that 440C can be made into a usable blade with good heat treatment, but this rarely happens. having said that I have a couple D2 knives that are total crap too, it is all in the heat treat. I personally wont buy any stainless knife, including kitchen knives.

  • i need a bit of advice im torn between getting a rc3 or the badger what one would you say is better? any commets would be nice.

  • "subzero" quenching or stabilizing is also more commonly known as cryo, or cryogenic quenching. just sayin.

    nice video Jeff, sweet knife.

    -Will

  • There are actually two different types, there is cryro and deep cryro. When people say subzero, they are generally refering to cryro, and when they say deep cryro or just cryro they generally mean deep cryro. It has to do with the temp that it is brought down to.

  • So you're saying that the majority of Surgical blades and tools are useless? 440A and 420(x)(x) = a vast majority of Surgical and dental tools.

    Ignorance at its best.

  • mate, first let me tell you that 440A and 420(x)(x), are very useful in surgical roles, kitchen cutlery , and razor blades are made of it too, while it can get really sharp for a reason I'll explain, and it shows a non neglect able stains and rust resistance

  • Oh yes I know. I was responding to some imbecile that was saying that 440A and 420's were completely useless which is obviously a pathetic statement.

  • lol I totally agree it's only an arrogant ignorant who would say such a statement, as if the world doesn't have enough imbeciles already

  • it needs a stop so you dont slip and cut your finger to shit ... trust me its not fun when you get cut

  • my cousin who visited me just yesterday from dammam...i live in jeddah...he told me that he had a collection of knives before and his favourite knife was a (sorry if my spelling is wrong....but i dont know how to spell it) mechety...

  • blades too short.

    no fun in killing

  • wat do you want to in killing people...its enough to kill a tiger (if you manage to hit it in the heart or damage it really severely)

  • and you do manage to injure it severely...it vould bleed to death after you die...

  • lol too bad i use it all the time and could defend myself with it if need be. Its also made in the USA so I guess that takes down both ur thoughts. Dont be so negative man.

  • Jeff, you're making me go broke man. Stop it already with these sweet knife reviews!!! I'm gonna order my badger this weekend.

  • jeff do you know if the company ships to europe?

  • you should try a UK compnmay called heinnie haynes (just google it) they do sell the Badger but they alos do THOUSANDS of other premium knives (no cheap shit) . I'd suggest going for the Anza Boddington Tactical, similar looks but far better quality.

  • I do normally on my site, but right now for the next month or two I do not.

  • Great review Jeff. I was looking at getting one of these while you were doing your chopping videos.

  • Thanks for sticking up for 440C, Jeff. I see a lot of people in the comments are sharing your sentiment. I remember when 440C used to be a premium cutlery steel and was used in a lot of customs.

  • i have a kershaw whirlwind knife and it uses 440a. Is that a decent metal? I like this blade although it isnt the best slicing knife ive had. My only real complaint is the weak liner lock.

  • 440a is very similar to 440c but slightly lower quality. it just means there's less carbon in the blade making it a little flimsier and giving it a little less endurence.

  • correct, similar properties but softer...

  • yea I do need to resharpen it fairly often. Thanks for the info :)

  • ***** Great review, love your insight.

  • 440c is a good steel from the start, I've been using cheap, expensive, average price range knives to use for a long time and 440c is a good performer in my book.

  • this knife just got a nice little spot on my christmas list, lol. Anyway, great review as always!

  • wd40 is safe to ingest.

  • it is, thx for sharing but i dont really wanna take the chance lol

  • i like how you talk about your take on nutnfancys philosiphies and preferences. without actually referincing it. (the non removable handle scales like nutn complained about in the recent spyderco fixed blade knife) i have noticed you doing it in other vids too. everybody has a different oppinion. thanks for the review. you really did your homework on this one

  • thanks, in my opinion reviews are good if you watch a bunch oif them, you cant go by just one persons opinions variuety in reviews is what helps peiople figure out what they want to know...

  • how does it differ and compare to the rat cutlery rc-3 cos it looks very similar...

  • its alot thicker and has a stainless steel blade...but yes similar designs...

  • Looks like a great, tough little workhorse. Thanks for sharing. I knew nothing of this line of blades before your demonstrations.

  • dude I dont know if you talk to entrek, but I'm glad the prices are now competitive, I want a few of them now, starting with this badger for work use, now that the price is reasonable.

are all the blades cryo quenched?

I hope they do an 11 bravo uncoated and bead blasted.

  • yes all models undergo the same heat treat and cryo...

  • All 11 Bravos are bead blasted and available now

  • dudeeee 32 minutes????? dudeeeeee dont changeeee, anyway good video, just dont make it a habbit :)

  • blah math i am retarded at math

lol nutnfancy over rated my opinion unsubbed him

jimping/ notchs looks more like a notching edge

dont stress this is a 5* vid

  • 420HC and AUS8 are both heavily used by companies like Buck and Cold Steel and work great when properly heat treated, 440 C outperforms both, I love 440C

S30V is a bitch to sharpen

  • Yessir. Sharpening my Spydy Military makes me want to cry blood. 154CM, VG10, 440C, and like...anything Swiss Sandvik for price and performance balance.

  • The personality on this review is pretty good dude.

  • Hey CL. I'm trying an EDC system with a gun on the strong side and a blade on the weak side. I've got my gun already, but I still need a good fixed blade. We can all see that this blade performs amazingly well as a small survival blade. Do you think that this blade would do well in a defensive role as well? I was hoping to find one that can do both. Plus local laws limit me to 3.5 inches on a concealed blade, so your reviews really have me interested in the badger. What do you think?

  • to be honest this is a horrible defensive blade the thick edge will lack in slicing power which is what you want and the blade is too short, unless you have really good training there are MUCH better ooptions...remember for defense only you want a long big blade and a thin stock...the loinger blade will be more forgiving when you cut short oin strikes alot of people will try to sloash a person and come up short...unless of course your very well trained...

  • Thanks for the response, man. That makes perfect sense. I actually thought about how thick that blade is but then I thought about how it sliced that sausage....haha I guess food prep and self defense are two different things. :-P

  • well we are meat too, lol its just that putting downwards pressure on meat like that against a cutting board will be easier than an open slash...any sharp blade will open up a person but this is a better wedge than a slasher...

  • if you want just drill the rivits out

  • Thats like the best sheath ive ever seen. makes up for the lower quality blade steel. worth buying tho

  • 440C lower quality? Dude, 440C was the first super steel and when you combine that with a sub zero quench, if D2 is not sub zero quenched, then 440C will out perform it in every respect, toughness, strength, edge retention, durability, everything.

    And that comes from crucible.

  • Man forget about blade steel. You can see from CL's other Badger videos, that this blade performs! I'm impressed that it still cuts paper as well as it does after all that battoning. If you can get a knife that performs this well for 90 bucks shipped, who cares what steel it is?

  • i agree. i have a shitload of knives and lots of 440c and those blades never let me down.

people are always downtalking 440c but not me. i like it.

also knives not made in the U.S... WTF! as if the only good knives are made in the U.S i have some cheap china made knives and they outperform the strider anytime sure lots of china made stuff is shit but there are lots of cheap chinamade knives that are great quality. people just need to look before they buy and thats for every knife

  • well i dont mean its a total shit steel but for 100+ dollar tag they could have used something higher end in the line of super steels as u say

  • 440C is 5 times more expensive than 1095, and yet everyone is fine paying the same price for a RAT 3.

  • Awesome Review, i love the thorough overview.

    Keep the vids comin'

  • Really great knife Jeff, thanks for the reviews on it.

  • "Waste of time" isn't exactly the best phrasing...

If you have an uncoated Fixed blade, if salt water or something corrosive were to get under the handle, it can eat it up quite nicely. Deep pits can be fatal to a knife, I don't see why you wouldn't want to clean that.

  • I hear what yoru saying, but most quality knives hbave tight tolerances which means the slabs on this blade and many others and completely flush with the handles, wtare will be VERY hard if not impossible to seep deep under the scales, on top of that it woudl take alot of time and air to be under there for that to corrode the knife to a point where its even an issue...

  • on top of all that perhaps I was talking to myself more so than a worldwide audience because I dont go by salt water, ever...I dont live by the ocean and I never visit it, lol...in theory your correct, but in in actuality its VERY VERY rare you will find anyone with that problem on any quality knife...

  • Do you have Any new zippo videos coming out ?

  • WOW

  • thanks Bill!~

  • it is kinda like 154cm and 440c and 154 being a little better.

  • don't listen to them cutlerylover your reviews are great...i plan on getting this knife as a Christmas present...i already asked for it...the reason i choose this knife was because of all of your demonstrations...i put my knives through hell and this knife is exactly what i have been looking for

  • I'm perfectly fine with the longer reviews. But it really depends on the knife I guess. This is a knife I'm interested in, so I'm fine with the longer reviews, but if it's a knife I don't think I'll be interested in, I'll just skip around the vid.

Anyway, you have great reviews, and I enjoy most every one of them.

  • the review was way too long

  • what makes a good review in your opinion?

  • well, in my opinion, you have very good reviews, but i dont think they need to be any longer than 10min. this one was particularly long.

  • I know what people mean by too long, but what makes it too long besides the time, literally? I was hoping the reply was a good review states a person opinions about the prodsuct, it might take person to 3 minutes to state an opinmion it takes me longer when I go into greater detail about an item, I know not everyone has the time or patients for a 30 minute review, but I will say someone who truley loves knives and is interested will have no problem with a long review..

  • Well said. I don't get why people complain about the length of reviews. I bet if you didn't make it this long. Instead of questions - you will have tonnes of questions about points you didn't mention.

If its too long for anyone. Let it load then skip over parts you dont want to listen to.

  • it was a good one but, it made me bored after 30 minutes

  • Great one . I was surprized how sharp it still was after the trashing you gave it .Nice Job

  • thanks i love all your vids!!

  • i was interested in this knife before i saw your reviews. long story short, i used your link and bought myself one. it'll go very well with my other outdoor knives :D

    thanks for the great review

  • i almost did the same thing..but my mom said wait till your birthday lol

  • same here

  • Thanks for the review personaly I like a really stiff clip on fixed blades so that the sheath doesn't go with it. If that sheath had the clip from the gerber guardian It woulden't move much lol.5/5- Joshua

  • I've been watching these videos of yours of this knife and drooling over it. When you said made in USA I am pretty much sold! It just made my christmas list :D

  • wd-40 is not edible? oops.

  • that was pretty good quality considering the whole vid was like 32:00

  • its not that stuff is good or bad its killing or economy

  • I love all of your vids and every thing cutlerylover but i can just not get into this knife i think its kinda ugly sorry to say...

  • Comment removed

  • im a canadian and i dont really care wear my stuff comes from :D

  • exactly, as long as it's good quality it's all good.

  • Another Great Review Jeff!!!

It Is A Sweet Looking Knife!!!

  • 5/5M8

  • jimpits

  • the rivets on the spine would be great for a scout firesteel. you could make paper snowflakes with it!

  • its a very cool knife . i believe i may make one of similar style

  • u should make a video if how to properly clean a knife

  • Do you think these knives are a better value than the new Rat knives?

  • I think they both have the same fit and finish as well as overall quality, pick whatever wil work more for you...If you like carbon steel go RAT, if you like stainless or want a thicker version go with the entrek...

  • Hm. I've had my entrek cobra for a while, the same as this except for blade shape and length. Very durable. Very decent review.

  • I enjoy longer videos like this one. It just gets into great detail about the knife and Just makes me want one more and more.

Its not just like "Okay so heres the knife, its sharp, strong, and a great product, kthnxbai"

  • Five Stars!!

  • Oh and GO TEAM USA!!

  • I'd like to see a video of you cleaning it up and touching up the edge. It would be interesting to see how it turned out. -- GREAT REVIEW AS ALWAYS!

  • steam car ftw

  • Stay with your long vids, Jeff.

There's too many one minute videos on YT, and I can't understand why they get so many views. If I want to watch something, I want to sit and enjoy it. Not waste my time browsing for other videos.

    Keep up the great work!

  • i personaly love your longer vids keep up the good work man

  • Big old machete xD

  • this is a blade that i normally would never look twice at. thanks for changing my thought pattern. i can see the potential in knives like this now

  • Great great great review and awesome points on steels!!! I love my higher end knives but I get a huge amount of use out of my Bucks, Shrades, and Gerbers. Those usual are my "go-to" knifes because they are inexpenceive and easy to resharpen. Thanks for the video.

  • looks like a great knife

  • Kewl

    Kool

    Cool!!! =D

  • Awesome review Jeff. I think I'm going to get one of these when I get the money.

  • All the models without a guard, and not including the Destroyer. The ones with guards and destroyer have a belt loop not a clip. Thats the major difference. Also, they have a different retention system with the fire drill hole.

Great review man! Must have taken you this long because you where recording it the entire time! LOL :P

  • LMAO...well with fixed blades I need more research and use/testing before reviews more so than folders since I dont use them as much...

  • Hey jeff, I love your vids and all, really, but youre a grown man :P LMAO and lol?

Hehe, its nothing big, just so high school ;)

  • damn kids got me saying it, lol dont forget Im only 24...

  • hehe, I know :)

  • Thats because D2 performs so similarly to D2

  • I don't know why some people make great big fuss. I mean 440 steel it's isn't best in the world but again it's isn't terrible either. Lots of knives made from things like ATS-34 & 440 steel many years.

  • Yea but there is a large difference between 440 and 440C. Thats like saying the knife is made from steel.

What steel? Just steel. We are talking about 440C in specific, not 440A or B.

  • Well regardless Entrek looks like some real good knives. I will buy one soon but I'm trying to make up my mind between badger and Companion.

  • That is a tough choice. If I had my choice, I think I would go with the companion.

  • LOL!

  • 1st page! nice video man lil long though

  • Hey jeff how much does foam and rubber dull an edge? I cut up a foam pad about the size of a bed with my sog trident and it dulled the razor edge to not being able to cut paper at all

  • PLEASE READ THIS hi cool vid dude but can u do a really good zippo vid plz maybe somthin like tips for first time buyers and collecters thx dude your aweosome

  • I have to admit that I am a bit of a steel snob especially in the +$100 range. I am very impressed by the performance of this knife as well as the ones QB demo'd on his page. My question is how this knife performs against a similar knife like an RC-4 or Pendleton Hunter.

  • WAY too long I liked your vids because they were short and sweet this is long and its just a knife how much do you need to know :(

  • Im sorry you dont like longer videos, but I needed the time to say what was on my mind...

  • 32 minutes woww too long man

  • I couldn't disagree more.

  • Im sorry you dont like longer videos, but I needed the time to say what was on my mind...

  • Yay finally

  • nice knife man!

  • No one gives a shit if you're first.

  • funny enough you were first

  • I'm not the first. ಠ_ಠ

  • Finally... :) Its an awesome blade! Thanks Jeff!

  • nice :)
