  • ur gonna be one buff little dude if you keep this up XD

  • Hey I started when I was your age looking good. All you NA sayers ya got to start sometime with something. Btw I don't wear gloves either teaches you where not to put your hands good job kid keep it up

  • Ur a reckless blacksmith

  • Great Job!

  • get some gloves man

  • @zakman187 no dont get gloves it causes you to develope bad habits about grabing metal if it falls trust me it hurts!!

  • You should not use that tong, it's not comfortable to grab that big area!

  • I will tell you that you are a liar, I use charcoal briquets and they work great, I know my stuff too, anything that you can get to about 1500-2000 degrees can be worked with, even wood.

  • @jpw9000 they work, but not as well especially for the price you pay for the damned things, go with raw wood or get some coal if you can

  • @jpw9000 they will work, but they have a bonding agent in them that sticks to the steel and causes excessive pitting.

  • @jpw9000 briquets have bonding agents in them that create pits in the steel so no its not a good idea to use them.

  • @gnarkill240 ok, this is actually jpw9000(I got a new username) and I have used them and (for me at least) they have worked fine. Look on my channel, on some of my older vids I have used briquets and they are fine...All I can say is that they worked for me...that's all.

  • You know how to hold a camera right?

  • possible the most improvised blacksmith set up iev ever seen your the man dude

  • im likin the improvised anvil you got. has anything changed since the upload 3 years ago?

  • how long start to finosh does it take you and thats awesome you do it i want to start doing it

  • rail road spikes are medium carbon steel. not the best for a knife. you might want to look up steel carbon content and figure out a better steel to use. O-1, 1095, 5360, 52100 are good forging steels. they can be found in bearings, and springs. your local junk yard or scrap yard will sell it very cheap. even free in some cases.

  • @northernsmith Alot of spikes are HC and very easily hardened to a rockwell 0f 58-60...also in areas of extreme weather or hard rock conditions you can find some with a V on top these are alloyed with vanidium which makes them really dense and even harder...when collecting spikes just check the lettering at the top, MC, HC, HCO, V

  • good start young blood but if iwere your dad I would have you in some protective gear. No need to learn the hard way...

  • @trex65ghia

read his discribtion , it´s just ain´t around , still in canada ;-)

  • love the anvil!

  • I never had any luck with railroad spikes, too soft for my liking. Im 16 so clearly a ton of other teens blacksmith, its neat, no denying that one. I use old motor shafts and files when possible, make some neat stuff, along the area of swords and machetes, If your gonna make somethin for show, why not make it big?

  • i just cant take you for real i mean ur like 5

    srry but i no likey

  • @Destroyer1990s See, he may be young but he's actually making real knives out of metal, and according to your favorite videos, you're interested in making cardboard katanas.

Nice job KidSmith, the end result turned out really well, keep it up.

  • @Destroyer1990s his channel says he's 15 now so he would of been 12 when he made the video, I think its impressive to start off that early, you learn easier when you are young

  • how old are u cuz u are good and im 15 and tomorrow im gonna make a gas forge and try making some knifes and wanted to ask what kind of tools do u use ?

  • wat type of steel do u use on your peices, w2 or what, btw nice vids

  • as soon as this started I thought it was gonna be some crappy vid of a kid tying a popsicle stick to the RR spike or something, then this kid cracks out a whole forge in is backyard, awesome man, keep it up!

  • smike??

  • where do you get railroad spikes

  • gloves!

  • i would suggest getting all te training and knowledge on blasksmithing and knifesmithing you can. starting at this age is a very good idea. the older you get, the more refined your work will get. stay at it Kiddo.

  • bla bla shut it son b carefull veryimpressive

those guys down there full of sompin

  • bla bla shut it son b carefull veryimpressive

  • Good Job Kid!! Keep it up ...You inspired to try this myself!!

  • just something you could try so your not forging on what looks like a sledge head, wont give you too many divets in the work

  • @hawkdlb06 he has an anvil he just moved and is waiting for it to get shipped to him

  • i dont want to insult you by saying an age which you are not soooo, for whatever age you are keep up the good work by no time you will be doing an even better job and who knows you could be making yourself a little bit of pocket change on the side. when i first started to bladesmith i went to a scrap yard and found about a 9 inch piece of railroad track, looked a little more and found a piece of steel 12x6x2 inch thick took them into to get welded together for my anvil

  • Great work, Ignor those other dumbasses, you are very talented for your age! Not to mention that you keeping and age old craft, (blacksmithing), alive. Keep it up!

  • he should do survival videos lol

improvising with all that stuffs pritty cool lol

  • Yeah, The kid needs to protect himself. Since he is using all this stuff, that was not made for this.

  • beunhaas

  • goggles?

  • dude ur gonna burn ur balls off before u even get old enough to find a use for them.. seriously get some protection gear (if you havent already)

  • stop nagging, seriously, if he would have had burnt his balls off as you call it would have had happend already. Jeesss, he knows what he's doing and if you had watched other videos of him like "safety update" you knew

  • you bitch.. why are you going to ruin the ending for me. I was hoping he was dead. Thanks alot

  • you fool, it was me a great pleasure!

  • it could happen dosent need to happen in this 1 video

  • Are you saying you want it to happen? Or do you think it's obvious that it will happen?

  • haha i give you creds

  • you sould have had on PPE kid. you are good but you need to be safe. just having a water hose isn't enough.

  • You're going to be a highly talented smith one of these days.

    Great Job! :)

  • I bet he will!

  • buy a fan ;D

  • make bevals ok =D

  • Where the hell are your parents Johnny Tremane!!! Thanks for the vid though.

  • my first anvil was pretty much the same thing. it was just half of a 55 pound dumbbell nailed into a huge log. try and get your hands on some railroad track or stage weights. there is a lot that goes into being a blade smith. to produce a good knife takes a lot of practice. it's almost a whole different trade than just blacksmithing. read up on the matrix of steel and metallurgy and try to find a good bladesmithing book. this will help you a lot in the long run kid. keep this trade alive.

  • Good for you for actually wanting to understand the process!

  • p.s. dont ever let anyone discourage you buddont end up a bum l

  • sale the knife and buy you a better pair of thongs and sum boots lol hay bud im 17 in high school taking college welding classes ill graduate high school and tech college at the same time i respect the mess out you man ive always wanted to learn blacksmithing but ive only got to welding so far lol not much work for a blacksmith

    angus

    p.s. dont ever let any

  • Comment removed

  • wow mate your clever (Y) good idea check out some of my hidden blade vidz

  • I wonder if instead of having to hand crank he could just use a lawn blower motor hooked to the aluminum ducting. It would leave his hands free

  • TRent says these things are awesome so it mus be true

  • Good idea...but too much air...burns too hot and uses WAY too much fuel. Hairdryer works SOOOOO much better.

  • kid your friggin smart..I want to get into this and give it a try...this is all such a good idea..! Great job

  • nice one it sliped lol

  • way ahead of the game already good stuff

  • wear eye protection tyvm >.>

  • i tried to do that but i couldn't get my fire hot enough

  • use the grill

  • wtf?? 14 year old kid?

  • wat about it?

  • oh shit hes like 10

  • sweet knife but i would like to see a final product!!!!!!!!!!! with handle cover and all!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Let me guess. Your real tongs were still up in canada too? :)

  • You need some bigger pliers, that's all.

  • my lord ur sooo uncordinated u misseed sooo many times hittin the nail but gj tho

  • Dude, he's 14. I'd like to see you blacksmith.

  • im just sayin im 14 also but i made a few knifes myself tyvm

  • Where did you get your bellows?

  • dude that is soo cool xD you own xD

  • lol...that is an insane way to make a blacksmithing set up...but it works! that is a hella smart idea!

  • great job!!! keep up the good work. not many people your age are doing these kind of things. have your mom buy you some longer tongs!!!!!!!!!! hehehehe

  • no black smiths make their own tools!!!

  • great job but where were you when you made this

  • Mack one more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If i was you i would wear gloves and safty glasses.

  • wish i got started at your age

  • great job kid!! really nice! congratulations!

  • i would recommend trying a shop-vac set on blow, it is a lot easier to use than a crank blower, but hey thats just my opinion

  • good work, nice vid

  • were did you fine the rail road spikes

  • on the rr tracks duhhhhhhhh

  • dude your camera work sucks!!!!

  • how do you make the one side stay flat while your hammering it maybe im an idiot or maybe i missed it or sumthin

  • nice anvil :P

  • great work! where did u get the rr spikes from? iv been looking for a few all i have is rebar. but nice job

  • out by my house there is an old abbandoned railroad where you can walk alon, its so old you can pull them out of the ground, grat source for other steel to, mostly HC

  • can you pull the spikes out of any rail road?

  • The anwser to your Q? is NO Never pull them out the rail road is fedaral it is Illgel to walk a railroad but that theonly way you can get them walk it and pick them up off the ground. This is still illgel but they usaly don't say nothing if your picking them up off the ground..

  • its also called you can go to your local scrap yard recycling center .. somtimes you can get lucky and find some railroad...lol im going there tommrow see if i can get some chuncks of railroad to make an anvil out of...

  • walked barel 80 feet of my local track and found 4 rr spikes just laying about. so i'm trying this tomorow lol.

  • how long does it take for u to heat it up

  • arround a minuite or longer from cold

  • u my good man... have a cool ass hobby :D

  • lolololol

  • i know hey! XD

  • coolya

  • what kind of metal are you using? does it matter what kind you use?

  • ita a rr spike knife, its a rr spike witch is steel, normal forging uses steel but you can be a tin or copper smith!

  • is aluminum smith-able?

  • yes, you can forge aluminum, it dosent turn red thougn so its hard to tell when its hot enough to shape and melts at about 1500 deg

  • thanks me and my friend tried to smith aluminum but nothing was happening but we were trying to heat it with an old cigarette lighter lol i didnt think it was possible after that

  • just get it really hot,

other than that, have fun and be safe!!

  • rr spike knifes are really low carbon making a low grade knife only good enough for a letter opener look for ones with hc wich means high carbon

  • way to improvise man. did you get the blower off of iforgeiron too?

  • thanks, i got it off ebay for 70 bucks

  • how to you shapen the rim off the jnife using a file

  • You need a vice grip

  • dude you are a bad ass little kid. Being a blacksmith myself i was amazed that you were able to keep our craft alive with charcole and a sledge head, and pliers. good job bud.

  • Lol thanks,

I have an anvil and coal forge but its in canada at the moment because i just moved.

  • I used a blow torch

  • for what?

  • thank you!

i did not wear glases but yes i agree you AWLYS need glasses

i an getting some good ones asap

  • very neat...but remember in order for you to do what you do you need your eyesight...so protect your eyes....your hands do the great work...wear i thin protective glove...you seem to know what your doing....follow your dreams..and be safe!
