this is a very decent, very touching video. i recently went through all of the clash and joe strummer & the mescaleros recordings i own, and have finally watched 'the future is unwritten' and 'westway to the world'. both are amazing chronicles of one of the best and most significant bands of any age and its frontman, a rarely passionate and convincing artist and thinker. dear joe, we owe you so much.
this honestly reminds me of george harrison. i know strummer is a legend in his own right but if someone told me this was a harrison song i'd believe them.
his only mistake...he`s used a lot of Pitch Correction...that s only reason why he s not big as Waits or Cash...he is soooo artificial, not natural but artificial...but he could be...
@BallydowseRambler i was driving a royal mail 740 full of christmas post, foolishly through the lanes of south devon, i was in a place called denbury when i heard, i couldn't believe the news...
why is joe strummer not the first name that pops up when you type in "j" on the search bar...what has this world come to? a teenage kid who sounds like a chipmunk on helium is famous because he can do a hair flip and winks at girls? he's more famous in todays world than Joe Strummer? a musical genius? a voice of a generation. leader of a movement? god....
He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, Lord, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at Khe Sanh, at Langdok, at Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. And so would Joe. Joe, who loved bowling. And so, Joe Strummer, in accordance with what we think your dying wishes might well have been, we commit your final mortal remains to the bosom of the Pacific Ocean, which you loved so well. Good night, sweet prince.
@JanesInChains1990 Actually, it is. Strummer was a punk rocker, everything he did was punk. Punk isn't defined by a single sound, it vary's, that's what makes it so great. RIP Strummer, you'll never be forgotten.
Also, WTF PEOPLE! Who cares about John from Cincinnati? You people act like you miss it more then Strummer, which disgusts me.
@bioshockt The Clash *was* punk. But then they branched off to other (better) styles. This is one of those different styles. Besides the point: I was defending the song anyway. I loved this album when I was 16 and I love it now.
Eight years have passed since Joe Strummer left us... The man that could play from Punk Rock to Reggae music left us, with the only desire of hearing more of his beautiful art. We miss you Joe Strummer, Thank you for leaving us such a terrific masterpiece. Global a Go-Go and Streetcore shows the potential that Joe had. Rest in Piece WE LOVE YOU!
@UkePunk I could understand an indifference the the song but dislike? Idk. I like songs that i understand others may even dislike... but not this song.
You're both right. Good music is still out there but the problem is that it's 'out there'. Not to be found on telly or the radio now so much. Maybe it's ok because that makes even better when you find it. And to Gooeyboot, finding it gets easier as you get older.
I love how they got Bill Clinton in this at the very beginning. Briliant. Jk. Truth is I miss Joe and realize how he gave so much. I met him after a show just a few months before he died, and chatted with him for like ten minutes and he was so down to earth and appeared just as interested in me as I was with him. Just so cool and awesome. RIP JOe, RIP.
i don't know why and when, but some of these songs made on planet earth just seem to spread good energy right into my hearing channels. this is one of them! thank you, mister strummer.
@ Gooeybot. I'm 29 and I grew up on the Clash just as you did: through people with good music steering me away from the rubbish. Anyone can grow up listening to timeless music if the people who 'know' spread the word rather than hoard it. Good onya!
@Gooeybot There aren't to many people of your generation that appreciate the great music of Joe and other amazing artists. Your taste in music is very rare for your age group. Keep rockin bro!
@monkeyboy4746 He appeared in a Charles Bukowski documentary also. I had a reaction like yours but I thought about it and became ok with it because if one person reads Charles' work or turns onto Joe the Strummer because Bono's name is attached to it. Thats just fine.
@Gooeybot I could not agree more. my dad got me into all of strummers stuff before i was even three years old. Same with the cure , social distortion, foo fighters. I am seeing social distortion in february. I just turned 13 in septemeber.
London Calling... even The Rolling Stone couldn't deny this masterpiece - at the close of the 80s RS published a final edition which featured the top 100 albums of the 80s - they voted LC #1 placing it ahead of MJ's 'Thriller' & Springsteen's 'Born in the USA'
That LC is far superior to those 2 is obvious, that an AMERICAN mag acknowledged this, placing it ahead of their own Golden Boy - Springsteen is incredible.
RIP Joe - (rock)history will view you as it does McCartney/Lennon.
@atrumira I think its worth remembering that Bruce was Joe's golden boy too, he totally loved Bruce's music and his overall style...Any of Bruce's first six albums are classics, and i think Joe would of agreed...
Agreed. And I might have come off a wee bit brash (sorry) with my remark concerning Springsteen, the man who saved rock & roll from disco.
I saw Springsteen in concert in '92 in a small city in Canada. He came on stage with a dozen or so musicians, no fancy stage or lighting effects (pure music & nothing but) & he performed like he was playing at Madison Square.
Two legends, what a night it would have been to see them play together...
There is areason the Clash were known as "the only band that really matters", that reason is Joe Strummer!! RIP you were truely the coolest, baddest MotherF@#$%er ever!!!!!!!!!
Well I'll be damned! I used to be in a band called the Clash and we had a feller in there who looked and sounded just like this.. Wait a minute.. Let me think... Okay, that's right. I just made that up. My band was actually called The Beatles.. And the guys name was Buddy Guy.. or something like that.
@Gooeybot same here dude. everybody are asking how can a 14 year old girl listen to some granddaddy's music, i keep telling that there's no good bands nowadays so why can't i listen something actual music from the past
