Saddest part of this song, is that the lyrics which were made in response to the ongoing "Vietnam War", is still very much appropriate in this day and age with the ongoing wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

I accidentally stumbled onto the movie "Beyond the Sea" and thought it was one of the best kept secrets. When KS sung "Simple Song of Freedom" I found my new favorite song. I've since listened to the song while Bobby Darin sung it. Both are great and I am happy to report both are available on Itunes. And for those who aren't sure, Kevin Spacey is alive and well and lives in London. Bobby Darin died December 20, 1973 at the age of 37.

Thorne42 thanks for the heads up on his second Oscar. I have listened to Kevin's CD of Beyond the Sea three times and each time I marvel at his singing but I have yet to see the movie. This Commander of the British Empire has settled in London to work for the Old Vic so we may not see him in another movie for a long time. He was really scary in SE7EN- it was not the kind of movie

I liked to see but with Spacey in it , it was worth being scared.

excellent protest song written by Bobby Darin- excellent impersonation by Kevin Spacey , one of Hollywood's brilliant actors. Loved him in Usual Suspects where he won an OSCAR ! Was nominated for another Oscar in American Beauty . Loved his role in Shipping News- would like to see him in another musical .
