-- So when there comes a time for a regional section of the Internet to go down during the next USA terrorist attack, we can transmit digital packets like this over ham radio airwaves to take back our freedom?
-- BTW, I have the Cassiopeia A-20, which of course would have this feature too. I just don't have the radio or the adapters.
@MikeSPx24bj9 Package does have the ability to do some limited TCP/IP protocol, I fear thou it would be very slow and not at all what "WE" think of as the internet. But yes, data could be moved around with just a simple HT and a hand-held computer (old as it is!)
@MikeSPx24bj9 I don't know about the Cassiopeia A-20 cable, ebay maybe to find one of those, but the null modem is like 6 or 7 bucks at Radio Shack....your on your own to find a radio - 73
@6364gg2 That would be about the coolest thing I've seen :-) LOL - I acquired an old school Atari Profolio but without the right cables, it's DOS based, and about the same size as the Casio, it would be really cool to beable to run old school BBS software, or other DOS packet stuff! LOL I also have one of the 1st Apple Newtons but again without the right cables, it would be neat to hook the radio up to that as well, thou probably a lot harder to use.
@ermollejuo Packet is used to transmit digital data via radio, it is still in use today, but back in the day, it was used to send quick messages, access message boards or BBSes via amateur radio. You didn't need much to make it work, a radio a tnc and a computer that was about it. The TH-D7 has a built in TNC.
