  • graphics are great. all else is lacking

  • Phew, I thought I was the only one that thought this was impossibly difficult. I was five or six when I mastered the first one on dos and this was just incredibly frustrating. There was some boss that picks you up by your hair that I could never beat and he was the first or second boss.

  • @matedog2 first, and yeah even if you had another player you couldn't save your friend by attacking him!

  • the first one on pc is much better. dd2 is almost unplayable.

  • Now i see the reason why they made Jimmy blonde in the sequels, lol

  • The best part about this game is the sound.

  • I used to own the Amiga version and i downloaded this DOS version because i though it would be either the same or probably better. I was wrong this version is no where near as good as the Amiga one, crap sound, smaller playing screen and terrible gameplay which makes it almost impossible to reach the third level let alone complete the whole game.

  • @Carbon657

The Amiga 500 was better for gaming than any PC in the 80s

  • I had this game a long time ago, and it sure was pure crap to say the least! Other than the graphics, and new cutscenes, there was really nothing good about it, and the sound, and gameplay was just awful. However, I did discover a code which sped up (and improved) the gameplay, and gave you five credits also, though I never had any idea of what it actually was, as I would enter it by pounding on the keys on the keyboard.

  • @freakyfornash bummer about the code... I found a "hex edit" hack that was supposed to give you infinite credits... but it turned out to be for the first DD pc game, and it didn't even work for that one either... :(

  • Billy's not even moving!

  • @MDthornton83 That's because I didn't really have a second player, I just spawned him in and nudged him occasionally... to show first timers what both players looked like

  • I see.

  • This freakin' game robbed me of hours and hours of my life. No continues, and impossbily difficult.

I doubt anyone has ever beaten it.

  • Unless someone hex edited it for infinite lives or something of course!

  • I always wanted to find a mod that would enable me to beat this awful game.

  • @JAYASEKERA yeah totally agree...this game was impossible to beat...even harder playing on cga mode

  • Holy shit, I think I played this when I was young.

Never got past the second stage. :(

  • The NES version is way better than THAT!!!!

  • The graphics were better in this version, everything else is garbage.

  • The NES version is way more sensible because the bad guys in it are more easily killed.

  • Oh yeah, and DDA (GBA, another Nintendo system) they continued the trend of reversing the hair colors for the brothers (I much prefer Jimmy's spiked hair to Billy's new mop cut). ;)

  • Interestingly, in this version both Lee brothers are blond. In the series, Billy (blue) was always blond and his brother Jimmy had brown hair. For some reason in the Nintendo ports (NES, SNES) they reversed this... though you have some alternate choices like the SMS version with the brothers having red and blue hair (opposite of their outfit colors).

  • DD2 arcade had a nice style to it. Too bad all those versions ran so slow with reversed contols from left to right.. argg..

  • was there another dude playin?or is it like 1 player double dragon game like in dda?

  • karuk, the game was two player (I think only one person could use the joystick, the other was forced to use keys, or you could both share the keyboard) simultaneous, just like the arcade. I just started a two player game so I could control Jimmy instead of Billy like everybody is used to seeing.

  • one thing i do in mame 32 is set the second player keys the same with one player controlls. except in games like street fighter just in co op.

  • those eminies, enimys, eminies, uh, enemies!

those enemies just look real hard since it just looks like they gather all around you.

  • I could be wrong, but this may be the first DD game wherein the "whip" type weapon actually took more than one hit to knock down an average enemy.

  • The detection seems a bit off here when it comes to picking up dropped weapons. Notice how much trouble I have with the box, and it's still completely onscreen (within my reach in the arcade version).

  • It looks good, but it seems like it plays like shit.

  • Killed by the dang timer! This game is very, very hard... I used to really make my three lives last a long time though. Never was able to beat it...

Notice how in this one, unlike the arcade version, the enemies actually pick up and USE the shovel, instead of just throwing it the second they appear with it onscreen. Knives and grenades aren't used by enemies, you just find them on the ground.
