This is the kind of garbage I see time and time again in 'professional' images. It looks so false and unnatural. You should be getting a photograph right in the camera. If that's not possible improve your photography skills instead of learning a whole new lot of photoshop skills. The only good bit of advise he gave was turn your browser off.

I've never tried smoothing the skin that way before. The rest was too messy, you should really use selections for applying layers.

Also, I personally just change colour levels for adjusting hair colour, that way you're not taking away the natural sheen of the hair by painting it.

But then I'm a novice and I wouldn't know good photoshopping if it thumped me in the face.
