Geraldine Rojas and Javier Rodriguez are two of THE best tango dancers in the world. This is well known in the tango community. Vincent and Flavia are very good but, would admit themselves, are learning on a very long journey which takes many years..

This is a spurious comparison. A better comparison would've been Miriam Larici - tango fantasia with lifts and so forth but done with tango technique, as opposed to Vincent and Flav..'argentine' tango fantasia with ballroom technique.

If I want to watch technical perfection, I would go watching a ballet performance, not show tango. Just because one moves perfectly to tango music doesn't mean one dances tango.

Having just watched Vincent and Flavias argentine tango on this weekends strictly I think that they are technically brilliant at a fully coreograped routine, but for me the dance is all about passion and no one has ever come close to the chemistry that used to exist between Geraldine and Javier. the true beauty of their dancing brings tears to my eyes. They will remain in history as the greatest ever.

This is very beautiful but, just because this is excellent, doesn't mean that Vincent and Flavia aren't. Just because it's two (of the many) different styles of Tango doesn't mean one is good and one is bad, just different. Chocolate originated in South America but now most cocoa is grown in Africa. Experts can tell you where it's from but for most of us it is just something to be enjoyed. Dancing should be treated the same way. You may have your preference but it all takes skill, so enjoy it.

cmq...non è per plagio, ma per sfottò a chi pontificava sulla magnificenza di Vincent e Flavia (che io ho scoperto su youtube, ma di cui comunque non sentivo particolarmente la mancanza). Come ho risposto a robertangoblivion ero talmente indispettita che ho dovuto pubblicare un video di Geraldine e Javier, così per bilanciare le cose =)

this is pure argentine Tango, milonguero style and of course i do appreciate it, performed by Javier and Geraldine, while the two dancers you're all refering to ,are Vincent and Flavia from BBC show strictly come dancing: It's true they are world champion of tango, but let me be precise of Tango Show! a discipline part of ballroom dances, little to do with traditional argentine tango, so th etwo couples are both excellent simply dancing two different things!

The style is not the so called milonguero style, it is far closer to Villa Urquiza or the Tango Salon, category of the world championship in Buenos Aires.

i agree, there are now many variations of tango and we're all entitled to our opinions. However there can be no doubt that Geraldine and Javier are the total embodiment of Tango -100% connection & feeling.

I don't think I understand the 'a little bit technical' and 'ridiculous expression' bit. I mean, I watched it again to check, but they're just smiling the whole dance. As for the technical, I don't know, of course they've got an excellent technique, but there's more than that in their dance I think, more feeling.

its a natural expression, they are expressing a real feeling and really leading and following. ballroom immitates the effect, not the sentiment, and uses technique derived from other dances. it may take you more time to appreciate argentine tango, but it is much richer, more genuine and has much richer music and expression. it is about the connection and feeling between two people, not so much about the show.

Richer? How do you know? What other dances are you referring to?? And you don't think the Tango waltz is influenced by...the Waltz?! True, Argentine tango socially is an exchange between 2 people. But on a stage, You dance FOR other people. So why do you knock down dances that exteriorise these feeling through flexibility, technique and athletic training ? "...ballroom imitates the effect.." So you are truly depressed and nostalgic?! It seems to me you dance the tango but you are not a dancer.

What ballroom, what Latin and what competitions? This is Argentinean Tango. It has still managed to remain an art, despite some people trying unsuccessfully to make A.T. competitions. Haven't you noticed that they are not moving like robots, nor are they standing like peacocks, but they are focussed to one another?
