  • As a gay teen in San Francisco, I hope that one day i can marry the man that i love in California.

  • I'm a proud Iowan.

  • No offence but i thought states like Iowa would be one of the last ones to do this.

It just shows how many good and kind people live there. Iowa is now one of my most favorite states :D

    Good job Iowa :D

  • I was shociked when I head Iowa beat NY to marriage. Hopefully, and I feel we will win it here, NY will keep up our progressive streak with being state number 6 to allow marriage and the 2nd (?) to do so without judicial intervention! My fingers are crossed!

  • Good Job Iowa......! The LGBT community needs a state like This!

  • thanks for the thank you people of iowa, but we didn't do anything. it was the court. I'm proud of the unanimous decision though.

plus, pretty much nobody in iowa really cares. it's aaaaallllllllll good.

    GO IOWA!!!!!

  • I am going to school here in Iowa and was never prouder of my temporary home state as the day I read that ruling. I sat up almost all night online with two of my best friends, a gay couple who live near SF, watching the votes come in on Prop 8 and we were all devastated it passed. Iowa's Supreme Court decision to allow gay marriage after prop 8 passed in CA was a little surprising but Iowa does tend to be surprisingly progressive, love it! Take care, we'll all get there, hopefully soon!

  • I LOVE IOWA!

Was there for a whole year as an exchange student from Germany. Had my coming out there ... I was scared & quite unsure how it would end up. Afterall it is rather a rural state. But I was wrong! Luckily! My host family & the people I told were very supportive. Thank you so much for your support everyone and your openness.

I AM SOOOO PROUD OF YOU ALL AND IOWA.

    THANK YOU

P.S. Underlines Iowa's very impressive and progressive history. :) Hope Germany will also get there soon.

  • Thanks to all of the judges!?!? What about the people? That is a hollow victory.

  • Who'da thunk? I'da thunk.

Iowa has been way, way ahead of both U.S. and California both during statehood and before as a territory, when deciding on issues of equal protection. It is somewhat worrisome how history suggests we may again have a long, long wait ahead of us before California and U.S. catch up to Iowa on this issue as well.

Iowa's miscegination law lasted for 13 years, and was repealed in 1851. California's miscegenation law began in 1850 and lasted nearly 100 years.

  • thumbs up for Iowa :)

  • Keep your head up, CA will eventually come to its senses and ensure that all families are equal. Families like yours are in my thoughts and I wish you the best.

    Love,

    Someone in Iowa

  • Hi from up north in Canada, where legal gay marriage has been the law for over 3 years from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

I found myself in New York City the day Prop 8 did not get repealed and was in the rally starting on Christopher St and 7th Avenue. We are all supporting you to make this a better world. Let's start with our continent and then the rest of the world!

  • Every state will get there soon and I can't wait for the day when that come and this nation will live out the true meaning of its greed. That all humans are created equal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Some people rated this low...

    What the heck, seriously?

    Anyway, congrats Iowa!!!!

  • Kinda makes me sad to see how many people obviously voted this video down....

    :(

    Five stars from me!

  • ironic how people assume California is the most progressive state.

  • I know its hard to belive ;o(

  • now up to 5!!

  • Congrats from Canada :-), cant wait to hear when the last states pass same sex marriage. Its coming dont worry

  • Four states now buddy... and then there were 4: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa and now Vermont!

  • Iowa, whodda thunk?

"Our liberties we prize and our rights we WILL maintain!" State of Iowa motto

I'm proud to be from Iowa!!!

  • Love your family!! AGAIN!!! Jejeje.

I think I'm traveling to California from Argentina next year, and I'd love to know you!!

And I don't know why the last videos have low ratings and so much hands down.

    Ohhh, conservatives, you suck.

  • you're absolutely right, and you and your child are so adorable.

    :)

  • HI guys, sorry to take so long, I have been offline for a few days getting some other stuff sorted out.

Its great news, But still, we have a long way to go as I believe that its is a great threat that must be put down and never brought back ever again.

    Signed ADF1, Peace guys. :)

  • This is for depfox, there are some haters and angry people out there who will say all kind of bad things about you and your family. For example God will this and that, and that you are this and that. Don't listen to them and I hope you don't l'et that border you. Keep being the best person you can be for your family and for others out there and enjoy your life.

  • We are a very happy family. thank you for the kind words. I cant wait till the day when other young people dont have to prove their love to others.

  • Yay!! If only California could have gotten it done!

  • Im sory that you think of gay people in the same sense. I am a gay Cristian who is raising a family with love and with pride. I come from a Catholic family with values and the understanding that with God's help all things are posible. I think people need to remove there glases and see the truth where it lies. The little girl who was just taken and killed her in Ca was by a priest who happend to be in suport of the ban on gay marriages here. I wonder what gods opinions are on that?

  • Yay Maine! Five down, forty five to go. Take that, christian right bigots!

  • I would love to see somewhere in the original text of the bible where the word homosexuality was even mentioned. You'll find that it isn't.

Kinda like how in the pledge of allegiance "united states" wasn't mentioned nor was "god"...interesting how things CHANGE over the years.

  • gielaja, we're talking about gay people here.

  • To logically follow your argument here: you would otherwise be OK with gay marriage as long as you had some assurance that it would not lead to marriage rights for pedophiles and people into necrophilia?

If that is the case, why don't you just leave gay marriage alone and put your time and energy into lobbing against pedophile and necrophilia marriage?

  • And how about some REAL social issues like child poverty!

  • Oh, never mind. I just realized they're too busy keeping gays from getting married and protecting fetuses. Surely they can't be bothered with annoying things like the fact that 1 in 5 American children living in poverty.

  • California here...I'm so happy for gay people everywhere. I'm a little embarrassed that Iowa could enact such forward thinking legislation but my own state - one of the presumably most liberal states in the land, could not. Thanks for being a shining beacon for humanity. You are not just Human Beings you're Humans Doing . -- ANT

  • Florida here.......let's hope the California and Florida Supreme Courts are as enlightened as Iowa's!!!

By the way....beautiful daughter you have there too!!!!!!!

  • Who is rating this down?

Iowa, Vermont today, tomorrow, the WHOLE NATION!!!

  • Heck yeah!!!! california better hop on board the equality train cuz were headed cross country ^_^!

  • Land of the Free! Home of the Brave!!

    Way to go Iowa!!

  • Woot for Iowa! It's great to see the spreading of acceptance.

  • YAY! i live in iowa

  • 5 stars :)

Vermont legalized gay marriage too (effective September 1st)

    What a wonderful week!!! :D

  • "So it's no more discriminatory to disallow two men from marrying each other than it is to prohibit a man from marrying his house plant,"

    very sad

  • First they gave us corn and soybean. Now they give us fairness and forward thinking. Wow, it's great.

  • Thank you Iowa!!! Hopefully my state of PA well weak up but I don't see that happen for a long time

  • PA is my home state, I hope they might step up sometime as well, :)

  • never understood the ban on gay marriage, I mean doesn't it only hurt marriage to not allow honest loving people the right to be married? It makes it into something that discriminates, and that hurts marriage. Marriage is about love, not what bigots define as love. Great video though!!! :)

  • I'm still in shock. I'm so proud of Iowa! Let's go CA, we can do this!! I love you all!

  • the little girl was really cute. i think its great what iowa did. 5/5

  • Thank you Iowa for standing up for gay families

  • Awesome video! Thank you!

    :)

  • Why be anti gay union?

  • Discrimination corrupts children, not honesty and love. Funny how gay marriage, or homosexuality in general brings out so many weak minded individuals. You have to be so insecure in the first place to believe homosexuality affects you, or that gay relationships/marriage affects straight marriages.

  • Thank you
