My detector is beeping every 30 seconds or so. Low battery probably. Strange thing is the sounds only go off in the afternoon from say 12:00 to 6 pm, then it stops and starts again the next day, about the same time. Anyone knows why? The reason I'm not replacing the battery yet is because it's placed in a high spot, in the attic, and I will need someone to help climb up to replace the battery. Just wondering why it only goes off in the afternoon.
I'm livid with my apartments now. They put in battery'less smoke detectors.. or wired detectors. There's a battery somewhere that's gone out and I can't change it. It's 2 AM and the stupid thing is in my bedroom. I swear people (managers, execs, people who make decisions about these detectors) are so freakin dense in the brain. If they had any sort of clue these problems would not exist. If you have the same problems tell people on apartmentratings doht cohm.
a friend of mine moved into a refurbished flat - workmen had pulled in a new ceiling BUT they didn't remove the smoke detectors from the old ceiling in all rooms. so after a year living there something started to beep - something invisible, cause the detectors were behind the new ceiling. it took 3 months till he realised what was making that sound. big holes had to be cut into the ceiling to find the old beeping detectors! :)
Wow kim that would drive me crazy too. I don't think I would last 1 day! I talk to customers on the phone all the time and can here their smoke detector beeping. Sometimes I will here more than one beeping. I will ask them about the noise and they are so use to it they don't even notice it. I think most of them just don't know any better because they are the ones with bad credit and live in a apartment.
Sam, that sounds like a wonderful idea, but I live in hickville, aka no Lowe's or Home Depot. And no immigrants nearby, Andrew. This smoke detector was put up when there was scaffolding in the house, and no one seems to have a ladder long enough. The volunteer fire department is my next hope.
go to the "Commercial" desk at lowe's/home depot (not the customer service one... the one that is normally near the lumber section). normally, there's a guy working there. put on your best flirt act and tell him you need to change out a 16 foot high smoke detector but don't know what to do. usually, they can either tell you someone who has a ladder for that or they'll have one of their people stop by during another service run.
@TheCarson116 you have a collection of smoke alarms ?

Listen, I can help you:
Step 1: Get a constrution crew to put up scaffolding & remove the smoke detector.
Step 2: Call a electric company to remove the wires where the detector was & to move the wire connections to where you want the new detector.
Step 3: Buy a First Alert 10-year battery alarm & install it.
Step 4: Send the detector to me. I'd love it in my collection.
Hope this was helpful!
Your friend
Carson :)
P.S. Can we continue this talk via private messages?

if it was installed by the fire brigade or someone else you would think they would have at least a 10 year lasting battery

Kim,
1-go to YOUTUBE
2-Search "Easy Change Smoke Detector"
3-Gather all the support you can and help me make it happen. You think it's tough now wait till you're 80!

Hi, Kim!
1. Borrow an extension ladder, or a "little giant" ladder - worst case - scaffolding.
2. Install an Ultralife 10 year lithium alkaline battery in place of the bad battery. It may be more money, but it's worth the cost!

Find a gardener from a less developed country working on yr neighbors lawn.
Pay him $10 and hand him a ladder.
Fixed.
andreww38 3 years ago
Step 1: get a BB gun.
Step 2: load said gun, and take careful aim at the smoke detector.
Step 3: fire until the smoke detector is scrap plastic and wire.
Step 4: install a new smoke detector in a more reasonable place.
Hope that helps! :D

I'm considering the baseball. Still trying to find someone here in hickville with an extension ladder long enough.
