Wow. Great video. The song really fits, it has a really melancholy feel to it, which is how I feel about SAAB. I loved it, but I'm sad it was so short. Another example of Fox cancelling a great show. (ehem, Firefly!) Thanks for the great vid!
Jim Morrison, who played Col.McQeen, was excellent in this role. He sort of disappeared after this show was cancelled and just showed up on a few shows as a guest role.
I only just discovered Vera Lynn recently and I enjoy her sweet lovely voice. The video is great, too. But..please pardon my ignorance...what is a SAAB?
I'm glad you liked the video. SAAB stands for Space Above and Beyond. It was a sci-fi show in the '90's. There are marines and a battle is being fought between Earth and a group of aliens. It is really better than I made it sound.
thnx for the info. I've found many different version of Coming in on a wing but I like this one in your video the best. Any chance u can send it to me as mp3 file ? :-D
I'd be glad to. It shouldn't be a problem if you have broadband. My sisters and I exchange music like that all the time. Send me your email address in a message and I'll get it off to you.
"Coming In On A Wing And A Prayer" is an old song from WWII. This version is sung by Vera Lynn. Any of the good CD stores that have '40's music will have it. I can't remember if I got mine at Virgin records or Amazon. I know a lot of Vera Lynn's work is on CD. I bought a number of them for my mom before she died.
I always associated music from WWII with SAAB. Not sure why, but for me it fit.
I'm laughing at what I wrote about WWII songs. I'm not sure how I forgot all the references to that war in the show. I remember thinking at the time that it was a shame the sound track didn't use an occasional big band song. Thanks for reminding me.
we really hit our target for tonight! Semper Fi Marines!

HAHA. The guy in the beginning is really stupid because he can't count without his fingers. HAHA, stupid show.
dmed312 3 years ago
Nooo that's a direct take from the old war movie "Twelve O'Clock High".
Lattelady6 3 years ago
Is this show still making episodes?
dmed312 3 years ago
Nope, been off the air since 1995. It pulled a lot from WWII even though it was about a war with aliens about 50 years from now.

I'm glad you liked it. I grew up listening to my mom and grandmom's records from WWII. The song seemed to fit.
It was meant to be for all the Wild Cards, but I'm a McQ girl and it ended up being a bit more about him than planned.
Lattelady6 3 years ago
Completely understandable! I love McQ too!

Thanks! It was one of my favorite shows. I thought the song from WWII worked well with the spirit of it.

I could not figure out why.

S:AAB is heavily based on WWII.
That's probably why, if you have read enough history or watched enough war movies you probably saw the references, at least on a subconcious level.
