Yea great aiplane if you dont work maint or are one of the passengers that always have theyre trip interrupted due to the MD80 constantly breaking down............its old and needs to be retired
NO way..I suppose they just need some more maintenance..they did their job nicely for the last 30 years! None cant stop their lives..md80 made great part of modern civil aviation history!
I totally agree with you. I reckon we need to bring back the old jets like the 727, 747-200, L-1011, DC-10, 707 and 737-200. I don't see why we need all those computers and stuff. Like the A380 won't let you stall the plane, won't let you go over speed and that kind of stuff. Older jets just need modified 21st century engines, interiors and materials but the cockpits should stay the same.
so you're saying that every modern fighter aircraft is a mistake? they're all fly by wire and their performance far exceeds any aircraft that aint fly by wire.
also Cptn Sully who landed his aircraft on the hudson river was flying an airbus that was climbing shortly after take off when he lost power in both engines, the only reason he lost the plane was cus he didnt have the altitude to make it to an airport by gliding, he could still control the aircraft same as any other.
by all modern fighters i meant the 4.5 and 5th gen fighters which are all FBW. the only problem with FBW is a major computer malfunction but im sure there will be back-up systems if that occurs or even a pilot overide, i know the 777 pilot can overide the FBW, i dont know about airbus. FBW is safer, you've got the brain of a pilot and also a computer, theres nothing not to trust, if it was risky in any way airlines wouldnt take the risk by using them.
aircraft have back up power systems for if they lose all engine power, the airbus is no different, if all power is lost then back up systems will give enough power to control the aircraft enough to make an emergency landing or to ditch it as safely as possible.Airliners have 100's of passengers lives at stake so safety is key.Non fly by wire aircraft use hydraulics and electric motors which still need power to operate and also need a back up power supply in case of emergency
calm down then, its the same mechanics for the control surfaces as conventional aircraft, just the input is refined and anaylised by a computer which makes it safer and more efficient, the piloting of the aircraft is no different. the B777 is actually FBW so boeing are obviously going that route also so it must be more advantagous. if it was unsafe in any way all major world airlines wouldnt be flying airbus or 777's like they are. its progress.

I've never been a fan of the MD-80. I don't like the rear-mounted engine design--besides, they look puny--and it looks like a slow plane, like it neds a lot of runway to take off. Though the co-pilot here is really goodlooking:)

Exactly dude, crap like Fly-By-wire and such is a total mistake. I mean you loose power you bassically loose the plane.

@ChuckMamuck I don't give damn what kind of back up system F-B-W has. I just don't trust an electrical control system, all stick with mechanical.
