Audit all the videos and presenters in every video showcasing "Cisco" technology. The real Cisco public relations division wouldn't use a couple of uneducated clowns that don't know anything about technology to sell Cisco technology. Thanks to whomever notified me about those people. Those two don't work for Cisco.
Whomever those two clowns are that are hosting the sales presentation for "Cisco" are a couple of morons that don't know anything about technology. If you carefully listen to their speech, they resemble a couple of evangelical pastors. What does that translate towards: they plan on using "Cisco"'s brand name to sell their agenda. They sound as if they're targeting "children", whom in this day and age, are mostly tech savvy. Don't trust those two: CSCOPR
this is marketed at enterprises, not consumers. iPad is for mac cultists who would actually buy an iCrap if steve jobs would be willing to sell the stuff he makes every morning.
Interesting that 6mos later there are still no real hands-on videos of the product. In fact, look at the stage shot at the 7:37 mark... especially the position of the 'poster' relative to the desk, the shadow of the poster and the shadow cast by the demo-er and look at the photo that's "shared" (7:50). The 'Poster' is now IN FRONT of the desk and the persons shadow is very visible. I think the product is (or WILL be) real, but not so sure about this video. Many errr ummm 'inconsistencies'
It looks great, but the worse thing about it is the Cisco logo emblazoned on it... That logo tells you this device will probably cost $1,499+ and if you want any of the "features" you see in this video you have to buy them separately.
I can see this device replacing a lot of the 7945 IP Phones in my office. Mostly executive level, but HR could use this for job interviews that are over state lines. They currently use Skype for this.
Cisco presentations are always bad. Mostly because they are presenting to IT departments. They could care less about the fluff that Jobs puts in his presentations.
Man I wish companies would just stick to what they are good at and not try to take over the world and compete with everyone else. We might finally get a good product from them then.
@sandellma Umm... This isn't a consumer product, this is for the business and education sector. These are the areas Cisco are good in, what is the problem? They are not competing with the iPad, this beyond the iPad.
Could they copy the (Steve Jobs) Apple presentation any more? Where is the originality? SDK? Where did that come from? Hmmmm? Even the calendar icon looks identical. ZZZZzzzzz z z z . . . Ooops, I fell asleep!
@kuttn7 Apple didn't come up with the idea of SDKs. They were around before the iPhone and iPad were even thought of. Just because they used the Apple calendar icon in their slide show, it doesn't mean that is what the icon looks like on the device.
It has an SDK and an API and this port and that port... 720p and...
Guys quit reading the spec sheets. It seems like every hands on demo for Cius on youtube is nothing more than a few tech specs. Why should I buy this product based on the two cameras and the hdmi port. Big wup...
@hastingb The only time you should be buying this product is if you are working in an office that uses a lot of Cisco products. This is a next gen IP Phone for Cisco VOIP and WebEx with a few mobile options.
People need to stop comparing the Cius with tablets for the consumer market.
@hastingb SDK Open-Source, alot of API, USB port, and camera, and probably industrial grade network capability enable everyone to turn this device into a personal computer (if they want to). The problem with other device (iPad for example): has incomplete network capability, no USB, close/non Open-Source software development cycle. Open source mean that you can transform it into anything: eg: games, work software... provided that you know the 'hacks'.
Very impressive how Cisco leads the way in transforming the enterprise business models capturing major trends from consumer markets (iPad) and putting it in the proper wrapping (policy driven, manageable, secure, and customizable).... that's the road all other vendors will follow soon
dumplingduckling2, the Android Operating System is touch screen. Furthermore, he was touching the screen throughout the demo. The screen display was for visualization, that's why you didn't see anyone touching that display.
