  • ITS OVER 9000!!!!O>O

  • Thanks!

  • very helpfull thank you

  • i no that i meant generally cuz ive been looking for it

  • how do u change the frame rate on th vista version of movie maker

  • The Vista version doesn't work with webcams, unfortunately.

  • this helps alot thanx

  • I have the vista version of windows movie maker - what do I do?!

  • The Vista version of WMM doesn't work with webcams unfortunately. You can use other recording software, though. I use a program called VirtualDub. It's a little complex at first, though.

  • Oh ok,

can I download virtualdub for free?

  • Yep, just Google it.

  • Thanks!

  • do i do the same steps even if i don't have a QuickCam Pro 9000, i have a sony?

  • These instructions are for that specific webcam. Using Windows Movie Maker will be similar for other webcams, but the steps about setting the exposure manually will definitely be different.

  • i dont know how to put it on windows live messenger

  • I don't use Messenger I'm afraid so I can't help you. You should be able to set it up somewhere in the settings, though.

  • i have windows movie maker and i cant get up the very 1st bit where edit movie! wot can i do??

  • Do you have Windows Vista? It doesn't work with the Vista version of Windows Movie Maker unfortunately.

  • can u not get HD quality from WMM?

  • I don't think so, no.

  • you can with vista but...I have XP :(

  • is there any way to change the framerate on WMM? I want to export animations that I make at 15 fps...

  • No, not as far as I can see. You might like to try Sony Vegas or Ulead VideoStudio (they both have free trial versions you can download).

  • when i go into windows movie maker it says "import video could not detect a compatible video device" I have the logitech 9000 pro

  • Jon, thanks a million for your 4 part video review and this one using the Windows software. Very helpful!

    Rob from Texas

  • hi im thinking of getting this webcam to record playing piano, do you know if the sound quality would be good for that use? thankyou :)

  • It's probably acceptable, but not great. You have to turn the recording volume down to a very low level otherwise it gets distorted. For recording music you'd probably be better off with a dedicated USB microphone like the ones that MXL makes. They cost £75-ish.

  • Oh ok thats what i was wondering if the mic would be good for that or not, so i'd use the usb microphone with a webcam?

Sorry if i sound like a retard im just used to recoring videos with a mobile phone lol

    Thanks for the help :)

  • Yeah, you should be able to set it up to record the video from a webcam and the audio from a seperate mic.

  • oky doky thanks alot for the help :)

  • Thanks.

    5 stars.

  • how do you use the webcam for movie maker vista? it doesn't have the capture button

  • Apparently the Vista version doesn't work with webcams at all I'm afraid. An alternative is to use a piece of software called VirtualDub to do the capturing, but it's a bit more complex than Movie Maker.

  • thank you, I actually decided to install the logitech and just upload the video

  • You're awesome! Thank you so much. I just assumed the way to do it is to capture using the Logitech software, and only use WMM to edit afterwards. But now I see you've gotta capture with WMM in order to get the best quality. I followed your instructions, and it made a big difference! Also, your camera review was very helpful.

  • thx dude ur rock thx a lot :) ^^

  • Thank You Very motch

  • Thank you.

    You Fixed my problem! =)

  • Yes I am using Vista.

I don't know why but when i upload the video onto youtube the video is like soo slow. Like I'm moving really slow.

  • It's probably because the exposure is being set automatically and that slows down the frame rate. Try switching off the "RightLight" feature and setting the exposure manually. That should improve things somewhat.

  • Okay I bought mine today.

The Problem is that when I click From Digital video camera in Windows Movie Maker, it gives me a message. It saids Import Video could not find a compatible digital video device. Verify that the digital video device is properly connected and turned on.

    Help Please. =)

  • Hmm... "From Digital video camera" doesn't sound the right option. Are you using Windows Vista by any chance? I heard that the Vista version of Movie Maker doesn't work with webcams anymore.

  • Can you tell me how you record whats on the comp screen. I've always wondered how thats done.

  • I just used a free bit of software called CamStudio.

  • Exactly what I was looking for! I bought a digital camera that its videos' format isnt compatible with WMM, and was thinking of buying this web cam to make my videos, and now not only do I know it will work, i know how to srt it up. Thank you!

  • VRY good tutorial ..thanks alot :)

  • work a while again but not now?

  • Sorry? I don't understand the question.

  • Do you know the diference between I420 and RGB24 in colour space/compression ?

  • I420 is also known as 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, which means that it compresses some of the color information.

Theoretically RGB24 should be higher quality, but I couldn't tell any difference when I tested it out, so I suspect that the camera always uses I420 internally and just converts it to RGB24 in software if you use that option.

  • Were can I download it?

  • It's included with the Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), so you need to download that if you don't have it.

  • Microsoft Website (to Mikokoster)

  • What do you mean?

  • Very good help tutorial. Thank you.

  • It seems I am not able to disable automatic gain control and set the exposure manually - it is all grayed out. I can see that the exposure is set to 1/5, which is not good. Any idea where i need to change something in order to be able to disable automatic gain control?

I am using QuickCam 11.5 with my camera

  • You have to switch off "Use Automatic RightLight Settings" in the QuickCam application before it will let you set the exposure manually.

    thx

  • Do u have Windows (XP, Vista, etc.) if u do, the just go to start>all programs>windows movie maker.

If u hav Mac or apple, they dont have that program. So for windows, if u havent accidently deleted it, then u dont need to download it. (I dont know if u can download it anyway, but idk)

  • Thank you so much...i have it in my programs actually, not knowing that it was already there

    aweome..

    yah i have windows XP/p4

you really helped me a lot

    thx a lot

  • Can u Do This with Hyper Cam2

  • I'm not quite sure what you mean. Can I do what with HyperCam 2?

  • yeah but not sure where to go lol

  • Okay, it should be somewhere in the Start Menu. I'm not sure exactly where because I've moved mine about. If it's not there you can download it free from Microsoft. Just Google "Windows Movie Maker" and it should be the first result.

  • how do i found windows movie maker on my computer sorry i dont know about this things

  • Do you have Windows XP?

  • thanks, I found out that you can do the video first then edit it through windows movie maker. thanks for your time!:)

  • i have a question, can you record the video and then use windows movie maker? please reply

  • I'm not sure I completely understand your question. The way it's normally done is that you record the video, then edit it, then "export" it as a new file. You can do all of those steps in Windows Movie Maker.

  • thanks i am going to buy it:)

  • is it easy to upload a video to youtube with this webcam? please reply. Also great vid man

  • It's as easy as an other webcam I think. You just save the video as a file and then upload it! :-)

  • Recorded another cat vid yesterday and couldn't remember the advice given in this vid. In the end I used logitech's capture device. I wanted picture quality over frame rate so I could use it for getting lots of pics (stills) for homing sites. Had masses of motion blur though. Will now rewatch your vid and take notes!

  • wat screen recorder were you using

  • CamStudio.

  • This vid was of great help. I had this problem with the number of images/s and several guys in the shop said that computer must be too old... With you tutorial I made everything work fine. So JJC1138 you do a great job, thank you so much!!

  • Thank you very much for your excellent evaluation and demonstration.

  • Great info and much appreciated.I have been using movie maker and wasn't aware of all the little things you could do to improve quality.

  • discard last comment i have windows movie maker 1 u must have 2.0?

  • ffs thats windows movie maker 2 i cant download it cuz i have windows vista it says its only for windows xp only..:(

  • discard that aswell lol this words perfect for windows movie maker 2,6 =) thanks you the best well i sub to you

  • btw, nevermind about syncing it with Quickcam's program. I was mistaken. You do need a program other than Logitech's own software to run at 30fps using 640x480. And again, it seems like VirtualDub's the way to go.

  • So today I tried the webcam on my laptop (instead of my powerful desktop). 2 important things I realized. If you're using a laptop (mine's 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo, it's better to just dual boot with XP because Vista OS's requirement for Pro 9000 is quite high, so even if you do have the setting at 30fps, it'll probably max out at ~13fps or so. But if you use XP, it 640x480 goes up to 29.5fps

  • Wow, VirtualDub is *THE* solution for Vista. Thanks Jon. I always used it only for conversing videos to smaller size, never knew it has video capture capability. Time to forget about Amcap.

  • Has someone made a youtube vid about this?

  • Click on Still Capture Pin, select output size 640x480. Click on Option , go to Video Capture Filter, Advanced tab, use the same setup as what this video shown - Exposure: 1/30s Gain 10000. Click on Option, go to Video Capture Pin, (30fps, I420, 640x480).

Then the setup should sync with the logitech quickcam program.

That's how I set it up. Still capture pin step may not be required, but i put it in anyways just to make sure it works for you guys too.

  • thanks a bunch. I'll give it a shot!

  • Thanks for posting this. Another option is VirtualDub. That's the program I use to capture. It's a pretty technical program but I like it because you can specify everything exactly how you want it.

  • Since Vista's Windows Movie Maker no longer lets you play with the driver's setup, I found this program called AMCap which does exactly the same thing. Find the demo version, install it, and do the following: Click on Device Tab, select Logitech Quickcam...

  • Okie dokie... haven't stopped searching till now. So based on this video, i realized you CAN in fact reap all the benefit of this setup using the logitech software. Which means that Windows Movie Maker wasn't an exclusive program that allow 30fps, but that the program allowed you to fiddle with the hardware's setup. From there, I started to look for similar software that can gain access to such setup.

  • Well, I use dual boot so it's not such a big problem for me, but in the past 2 hours I've tried "active webcam" and "webcam max". Active webcam only lets you use up to 15fps and webcam max doesn't allow anything larger than 320x240.

  • unfortunately, Vista's Windows Movie Maker doesn't support video capturing. Thanks for the heads up, now I just have to find a program that does support HD 30fps + video capturing.

By the way, I really think Logitech should pay you for this.

  • Huh, I didn't know they took video capturing out of the Vista version; that's bizarre!

  • I have zero clue as to why they do that.

At first I thought it was a setting on my computer when I couldn't see "capture from video device", but upon some research, here's what I found: "Windows Movie Maker no longer supports importing video from a Web camera or analog video source such as a VCR. To use video from your Web camera, use the software that comes with the camera to record the video to your computer, and then import the resulting video file into Windows Movie Maker."

  • Yeah, unfortunately I ran into the same problem. There doesn't seem to be a way to get 30 FPS when you use the camera with Vista.

    Grrrr.....

  • Has anyone solved the problem of getting 30 FPS capture while using Microsoft Vista?

  • thank you for the post. do you think could you help me. I just bought this camera. I wouldn't be using the build in mic I'm using another microphone for my locals with a external audio interface instead of a sound card that came with the computer. I need to perform with some kind of sound monitoring (hear myself in real time) I can't seem to sync the video with the audio. the camera insist on recording in 96khz but interface needs to record in 44.1. ??

  • That's a tricky one. Do you know that you can drag the audio back and forwards to synchronize it manually? Or is the problem with the speed not matching exactly?

  • Thanks, that was helpful!

  • Thanks, I will definitely try this. I am happy with the camera but not with the image quality of my youtube video's. I think it's the framerate, I didn't realize it was on 15fps. Appearently you can not get the 30 fps when you use the quickcam software. That's weird ...

  • Hi mate, So using the quickcam software to capture is a really bad idea it only gets me 15fps at 320x240 and with the latest software update the sound has gone to 32khz 16 bit mono?

Thanks for this video I now know how to get the best and my youtube videos will be better thanks again.

  • thanks

  • ty this helped

  • hmm thx for vid but for some reason i cant set it. well i can but then it keeps going back to defualt

  • :) Just got my Quickcam pro 9000

Its pretty awesome, I made a review of it as well

I'm just curious on how you got the audio to be so damn good...

  • Yeah, it took me a while of experimenting to get the microphone sounding alright. At first I thought I needed a pop filter so I bought one of those but it didn't make any difference at all (and I've since learned that pop filters are only useful for when you're speaking very close to the mic.)

Anyway, it turned out that the problem was just the volume level. Now I set it really low (about 1/6th) and then boost the volume back up later in the editing program.

  • Hmm, well although I like how you are doing it, I think I'm going to try and just film raw footage, then edit it in Movie Maker later on, but to me it sounds like the problem isn't the mic, its the software X'D

  • but mines wont allow me to turn off the automatic gain control why is that could you plz contact me with an answer

  • Oh yeah, good point. I should I have mentioned this: you have to switch off "Use Automatic RightLight Settings" in the QuickCam application before it will let you set the exposure manually.

  • Thanks, I've been having a few problems with the webcam since I bought it, especially with the sound. I have a quiet voice, if I slide the record volume high enough to catch my voice, it picks up too much computer noise. Will probably revert to headset mic.

    Thank for your useful vids.
