The school I went to in the 80's had one of these, they'd put on a story and we'd all sit around it listening (I remember the teacher playing "Rumpelstiltskin" one day, and we boys laughing at the name "Dick").
The player in this video was in too rough shape to bother with, especially considering their low value today. I could have saved a second one from another old school (which was demolished, sadly) but didn't for the same reason.
only thing i would worry about in there would be the spirits, mold and the floor/ceiling. Ive been in a lot of rooms like that doing ghost hunting only worries are those, asbestos ive been in contact in schools for years nothing wrong yet;knock on wood. LOL
Sort of... over here, small schools keep getting merged into bigger and bigger ones, all in the interest of saving money (the government doesn't give a crap about the well-being of the kids....). I think they've closed all the ones with less than 200 students... the one is this video would have held about 75 at its peak.
@packrat79 Is it the schools with mostly or all white students that keep getting closed? The Gov. seems to have a plan of demoralizing white children by making them mingle with lessor breeds. The Gov. hides their agenda by saying it saves money. It's quite sad.
@packrat79 The United States is. White people are hated here like we actually owned slaves. I've never met a slave owner and doubt I ever will considering how long ago it was.
The biggest risk is falling through a weak floor, but as long as you step carefully it usually isn't too dangerous. Of course, I only weigh about 115 pounds, which considerably lowers my risk of falling through weak floors.
Wow, the boy's bathroom had 2 stalls and 1 urinal. Must not have had many students in that school back in the day. The closet at 5:50 is packed to the rafters.....lol. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
Actually, the new owner had removed all of the windows (and flooring, ceiling tiles, etc.), so everything was totally dried out and odor-free by the time I got there. Before that, the place was probably like a giant Petri dish.....
In Bloomindale , ILL. there is an old school house that was at the time I went in there , a store selling western outfits, boots, hats etc. As I went up to the second floor. I could hear the children laughing and running up the stairs. I kid you not ! The building is over 100 yrs. old.
something about abandoned homes and school just haunts me somehow. I imagine all the life that was in these buildings, the parties, the laughter, the kids running around and to see it in its glory days and then look at the abandon forgotten building that once breathe life, truly sad :(
Its sure looks bigger on the inside than the outside!!Bob villa would run screaming outa there and say bring the dozer out LOL.Nah it looks worse that it probably is long as its structurally sound then all the guts can be taken out and restored.i would love to have that big place.Bet they got it cheap.Where is this at??
It is structurally sound, but so badly water damaged that it will have to be stripped down to the frame to remove the mold. In fact, the floor and ceiling tiles had already been removed by the time I shot this video (so had a bunch of rotten desks and chairs). Wish I'd gotten there sooner......
@packrat79 Oh yeah where those kids are today? What life there was like it was a small school so probably was a quality learning place not like huge schools of today.Where is this what state? You said lots of mold the roof leaks?Must have to have mold! Thanks very interesting old building.
Actually I did bring home the two old TV's, but they're badly water damaged and will be difficult to restore. I'm going to keep the better one and maybe fix it up someday if I have time. They were made by Canadian Admiral Corporation around 1968. One even has A/V input jacks, though this was years before VCR's (open-reel video machines were in use though).
Its like something out of a Freddy Kreuger movie lol

I tend to think of the children whose lives were shaped by what they learned or experienced within these walls, and wonder what became of them.
The only things living in here now are about a bazillion bacteria.....
