I could play this game forever and still do sometimes. You could put a ditch around the animal pens as they can't walk over those so they can't escape. But you do need to keep them fed and watered or you get grade F animals.

Normally I planted strawberries and sugar beets, but also usually had a lot of livestock. I tried a game rearing only animals, but I went bankrupt. :[

This brings back memories of 1995-1998 when I was living in NC, and use to visit my aunt and uncle in SC (they're in FL now). I use to sleep on the floor of their computer room, so I spent hours playing this (and You Don't Know Jack).I'd usually get kicked off the computer by my uncle, when I had been on the computer long enough. All I need is the sound of a close by freight train roaring by, and I'm there now. I may have to DL this to my old POS Dell, that is capable of running DOS.

I have this game. I used to play it in the 90's.

If you want a perfect game, grow oranges. After a few seasons they will not have any problems nor need any spray or water.

You have to go to file -> Load Crop to get oranges.

Also there are other tricks.. like harvest your crop and don't sell it, but store it in a silo. Then go to Disasters and cause a disaster, like a drought. The value of your stored harvest will skyrocket, and you can sell it for a lot of money.

There`s a program called DOSbox wich emulates DOS. It is excellent to play the old dos games that windows cant run anymore. I use it, and so far, all the games i've tried worked fine. You just have to know a little about the DOS command lines to use the DOSbox.

click file - Load Crop - choose orange & replace any other Crop allready install.

destroy fences u dont need them. If u destry them u can build 6 feilds.

dont buy or play with animals in start. (cows horses etc)

The best way the animals cant escape is to prison them with irrigation Ditch.

Buy silo and sale the crops when the cost of selected Crop is high.

Thats all... easy game. I played simfarm a lot. Very nice game... I wish for a remake.

omg i used to love this game...weird to think of how advanced it seemed at the time! the game was great, but after a while it became boring so i would speed up the time and not feed the animals...they'd bust down the fences. remember how if an animal accidentally got ran over by a tractor, you'd get this 'squished flat' animal outline?? weird.

That is exactly how I maxed out the cash in the game. I earned as much as the counter would count up and owned all of the available land that the city didn't own. I realized that if you choose the florida area as a custom made map with minimal water, max wind and temp, you could grow oranges without piping in any water at all, just take care of the pests and buy more land when you could. I still don't know if there is any way to 'win' the game, seems like it doesn't end.

Some tips:

You planted your fields such that if the onions are flooded but the lettuce is dry, you would have to choose one or the other problem to solve. Put ditches on two sides, with on-off valves to control both stretches.

Livestock can't cross irrigation ditches, whether or not they're watered.

Animals do need hay, with or without a barn. No, they won't drink from watered ditches, HOWEVER, a water tower touching both a watered ditch and a trough will keep the trough full always.

Oh I know! I usually only plant strawberries until my farm has done exceptionally well. I have no problem raising cows or sheep. It's horses that are a pain. They keep dying off. Is there a secret to the horses?
