Oh man, the notion that ACORN forced the powerful banks to make these loans -- loans that required no proof of income and had ballooning interest rates in pages of fine print is just ridiculous. Not to mention Wall St. wanted these loans to bundle into toxic financial products they profited off, and that caused the systemic crash.

The sub-prime meltdown goes back to 1994, when Clinton created a National Homeownership Strategy that got risky borrowers to take out mortgages that they couldn't pay back. This was a real bad idea. So many houses are getting foreclosed on;That is not a good thing. It is both Clinton's fault for allowing these loans to be given and the fault of people who are considered risky borrowers for getting these loans.

I only heard redlining once in this. This is what ACORN fought. Look up redlining neighborhoods. They also fought sub-prime lending. Sub-prime lending is what screwed us all. They protested banks on redlining neighborhoods not forcing them to give sub-prime loans. Sub-prime loans was a shady way for banks get their low income loans up so they could say they were holding their part of the deal.

I heard this from a person who ran 2 states for ACORN who told me what she does and explained to me in depth what their campaigns are about and what they are for. This was also long before there was any need to try and defend the good things they try to do. My answer is good, solid and right. By the way she no longer works there and still defends what they stand for.

The possibility of bias exists because she was involved with an organization that is in question.

I'm not saying that Acorn is bad or good, but I don't take information seriously if it comes from a source that has everything of their own interests to lose or gain based on what that information says.

Sorry to not convince you but I don't know what kind of argument you need. She had nothing to gain or loose telling me what the actions of their organizations were for. As far as mortgages, why would ACORN push for a low income person to get a sub-prime loan knowing that in at the most 5 years that that person would again loose the house because increased payments. They gain nothing from something like that unlike a short sighted bank or mortgage broker.

To be honest, I'm not convinced either way regarding Acorn's guilt or innocence.

And, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a ruse kicked up by the GOP to discredit them further when Acorn is under a Federal investigation (I'm not implying guilt as that must be proven in a court of law through due process) about potential voter registration fraud.

Scandal and corruption are endemic to both Democrats and Republicans, IMO.
