She had a good material...but yoou can her her vocal problems...and now there are very strong...sometimes shes so horrible...she is s victim of the buisness...so sad
I don't get it. Shouldn't she be singing quietly. She's struggling to remember the song. Why is this portrayed as someone giving it all she's got, and putting on a big performance?
Nothing against her, she's a great singer. But err.. not for this part. It's so Un-desdemona like :(
I've just seen the new Met production of Carmen today (in a cinema, The Met:Live in HD series) where she plays Micaela. She sings beautifully, with Roberto Alagna and Elina Garanca. She is awesome.
The fact that the Willow song is an opera completely detracts from the idea that Shakespeare was trying to put across. Desdemona was singing the song almost to herself, as the song was stuck in her head and in her mind. She wasn't belting it out to the rafters. No - this isn't how the Willow song was meant to be. It's supposed to be soft, solemn. Not a powerful opera.
There are a LOT of operas which take a LOT of liberties and defer from the original play. This is no different. This is essentially the same as taking a book and turning it into a movie. There are always differences but certain things must be edited, abridged, or changed in order to fit the new way it's being presented.
los gringos siempre escribiendo tonterías. Aquí lo que c uenta es la música y el drama, si William quería otra cosa...allá él. No saben evaluar lo artístico. Que imbéciles!!!
so according to your logic the play should not be staged, and if it is staged the actress playing desdemona should not let the audience know she has a song in her head, because, well, it's in her head. oh you wrote "almost to herself" so i guess only the people in the first rows should be able to listen. Were you too desperate to criticize something? find something you actually know about next time
@xxFionaJaynexx Otello is an operatic adaptation of Shakespeare's play. As it is an adaptation, it does not have to follow every single word in the play. If that was Verdi's intention while writing this opera, he'd have called it "William Shakespeare's Othello."
I like how in this performance, Emilia smiles at the end and almost rolls her eyes, as if she's comforting an upset child. It's a nice touch, because it makes it even more tragic and foreboding.
seguramente tú si lo sabes cantar!!! Hay que ver los críticos italianos que se creen que lo saben todo. Imagino que tú no das ni una sóla nota. Presuntuosa!!!

her singing is nice, but I just can't get past the fact that she suddenly bursts into an opera while she's sitting on her bed. This play isn't a musical.
lolz and besides being like really cultured and stuff, he is so nice that he actually takes the time to impart some of his wisdom informing us that this play, you know, verdi's otello, is not a musical... so nice of him
@suiriryoku you're an absolute twit. This is VERDI'S OTHELLO, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello. Its an opera, you know how I know? SHE SINGING AND NOT SPEAKING. DUH!!!!
We all agree. I Saw her as Liù at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona...excellent. Thanks Barbara. And she happens to sing to her own name: L'ancella della sua madre. Her name Barbara!!!
je me demande pourquoi cette cantatrice n'est pas plus plébiscitée et cette vidéo plus connue ! merveilleuse interprétation on se sent porté par l'émotion
OK I just saw Frittoli at the Met as Suor Angelica and it is my favorite interpretation of that role EVER. I am totally hooked. Can someone please post more of her videos. She is just fab!

must one take the pretense of assuming one knows better than Verdi? this is interpretation and adaptation, nothing more.
