I saw this in an IMAX theater when it came out and it was absolutely incredible. It really gave you the sensation of traveling at those speeds and I nearly wanted to close my eyes when they entered a corner. Amazing stuff.
@jordanashelin18 It is Homestead. That was the original layout before it was changed to a true oval in 1997. The idea behind the track in the first place was to build a miniature Indianapolis.
HAHA you guys are crazy, Tony George didn't kill CART, CART killed Cart. Tony just proved to them that were not bigger or more important than Indy. CART had every opportunity to thrive with all the other tracks, except Phoenix, and every major team. The cars were horrible back then always blowing a pop off valves & engines. And they were incredibly unsafe, how many drivers had 2 broken feet after accidents back then? Then what does Tony do after all the crap you give him? HE GAVE YOU FREE CARS!!!
where taking a left turn!!! ow wait another left turn !! and another left turn, yep that pemier racing hillbilly style ! , im so glad i live in europe
@mesothorium Unlike F1, where the race is won in qualifying. The guy that starts the race on the pole wins because there is ZERO over taking! I remember the first F1 race at Indy. Schumacher was so far out in front, he spun off the track, and was able to get back on the course without any worry of losing the race. BORING! Yep, that's premier racing euro trash style. I lived in Germany in the early 90's. Worst three years of my life. I'm so glad I live in the US, where people bathe.
Hey how’s it going everybody just stopping by to show you all of these amazing secrets to save money and make money in these hard times and to show off your hot body guys and girls
if mario says michael was a better driver than he ever was - then how awesome was Ayrton Senna who blew michaels doors off as team-mates in F1 - i think micheal said he was certainly the greatest driver of all time.
@tubeyouguy1984 What's wrong with winning a race on fuel mileage? Fuel mileage decides the winner of a race so often, it can't be used as a putdown. For god's sake, it decided a championship only a few years ago!
@BrookssRobinsonn Of course she did. It takes "driving skill" just to get the car to go around the track. She was on the same strategy as Helio and she managed her fuel better than he did. That's another part of "driving skill".
So is Helio's win in Kentucky this year also not a "win" in your book?
@UltimateWheelman Yea, it takes skill to drive in IndyCar, don't get me wrong, and Danica is definitely a skilled driver, but her team put her on that strategy, and if I recall correctly her last pit was a few laps after Helio's, so it wasn't driving skill alone that won that race
And to answer your question, Helio's KY win was not a "win" to me looking at driving, but he has won many more times in his career with his skill, that's what separates Helio, TK, Dario, etc from Danica and Marco.
@mazatleco17 George didn't had much of an alternative. CART was becoming too expensive and didn't gave a fuck about IMS. What really screwed up everything was the 25+8 rule at Indy AND the fact that CART turned it down. Could've been easy for CART to get on with their championship and adjust it to be able to race the IRL races, and then be able to enter the 500, but they didn't wanted to please George. And the IRL rules for 97 pretty much ended any hopes of agreement, until CCWS died in 08.
Well the good news is George is gone and Randy Bernard has taken over to bring back turbo charge engines and make the Indy Cars what it once was before the split.
I really liked the film, except for the dumb sound effects they peppered all around. As if the real sound wasn't good enough... or they just kept forgetting their microphones in the van? Just for that, it doesn't qualify as a documentary to me.
Well, in this clip, the passing shots (1:06 and 1:26) have the sound of a car recorded by trackside, with lots of reverb and Doppler effect. A car passing close would have sounded different (watch modern F1 races, they have superb in-board recording equipment nowadays).
One scene shows CNC machining of a part and it sounds like a mix of a Dewalt and dentist's drill to me, not the real thing.
I'm a racing purist... I loved the movie, but those details stuck.
You are correct, but in movieland one must take some things not so literal. The reverb sound you refer too was a sound the film editor loved. It was what he called "banshee whine". It was basically a processed distant race amb. The cars passing were reversed passes. Having a steady engine beside a steady engine is sonically boring.
Thanks for the update really, I never thought I would get such insight into this matter. My initial comment was a bit rude to be fair, but I still hold that the sound effects moved the film away from documentary rigour (and into movieland). Still, it certainly played a part in turning the little boy I was then into a hardcore racing fan!
are there different versions of super speedway? Mine came with the forst creative labs dvd drive released in 1998. was it specifically an imax movie only. NOrmally imax movies are not released on region 2 and this one was. DO all imax movies look better on normal tv definition than ordinary film quality.

Stupid Tony George screwed everything, and then CART owners did their share of dumb decisions.

then came bankruptcy knocking on their door. Now we've got the IRL Crapwagon series. And a woman who won a single race on fuel mileage.
Or we could call it the Penski Ganassi series.
