If this is a zoo, (I assume it is) I am glad I don't go to zoos. All you hear is stupid people blabbing on and on, rather than just appreciating the beauty of this animal.
I love these cats. Something has really bothered me though. I can't seem to find any footage of them in the wild. Although the leopard and Jaguar look alike, they are very different. A Jaguar would tear a leopard to pieces. They are very powerful and their bite is said to be nearly as powerful as a tiger's bite. Pretty impressive for a cat that is much smaller than a tiger. Jaguars are more muscular, have a shorter tail, and are alot stronger than leopards.
Totallywild is right! And if the Jaguar, or leopard gets into bright light you can still see the spots or rosettes. Some of them aren't even black. More like a very dark grey or brown with darker spots.
There is no such thing as a black panther. If it is melanistic (Black) it would have to either be a Jaguar, leopard, or Bobcat. There has been some speculation as to whether or not cougars may sometimes be black, but there is no evidence to support that as of yet. This trait could manifest itself in any cat, but the 3 that I mentioned are the only ones known to this point besides domestic cats.

Wow! I would have loved to have seen that, always wanted to see a black Jaguar, or is it a Leopard? Did you know, the black colouring is melanism, an excess of pigment.

yea. cute. i hear those things stink when they're around. theres some dumasses at my skool that think theyre cougars but theyre actually jaguars. o yea and we've found jaguars in the desert borders of new mexico and mexico, so thers a RARE possibility of black ones in the US now.
