  • Lol! My name is Rachel and I'm Chinese and I'm playing this piece for a competition!

People, this has nothing to do with being Chinese or not!!! The person who said that Chinese didn't invent anything, well u should learn some history! Chinese people make music too!!! And they also made a bunch more things that you can search.

But great job rachel! Later, just speed it up cuz it's presto. :)

  • What a talened girl!

  • I love your tempo!

  • this girl plays very well for her age. Beyond the tempo and force that is obviously not fully developed yet, i see an interest and passion for Bach's music. Good to see such passion from the youth. Makes me feel that classical music does live on.

  • la porqueria lenta!Si no podis tocarla no lo toques!!

  • ryanyee1234567890 you have no idea what you're talking about (no surprise) there's no appropriate speed for pieces, it's up to the player. I have 4 CDs of Grieg piano pieces and each player provide a completely totally different rendition of the same pieces. The metronome marking of very old pieces besies is completely useless, because they were meant for piano with a completely different hammer mechanics and string weight. Stop bothering people with your ignorance

  • and she doesn't have large hands, can't you see that from wrist to tip of middle finger they can't cover the whole vertical lenght of the of the keyboard? She has perfectly normal hands for being 10, 10 years old are not supposed to have infant hands like you believe and big hands are hands that wrist to end of fingers are bigger than the length of the keys. You're just blabbering ignorant nonsense without a reason and I feel compelled to warn others against the nonsense you wrote.

  • @OvoPiano actually she was 8 there

  • the western world has taken borrowed thousands of things from Asia, starting with Marco Polo. I can't believe the idiots who post here

  • she is Tiwanese.

  • How old is she?

  • @grubsas she was 8 here and is 13 now

  • @grubsas 13 now, I think she was 8 here

  • you are an horror

  • how evil!

  • how evil!

  • very well done and really fantastic!

  • If you can play this piece at around her age, then you talk.

or else, you're just another ignoramus.

Compose and invent something if you like, but it seems that the whole world is "copying" each others.

This piece is composed by bach who was a german. So if you're not a german, stop copying bach and play your own invention.

  • what's people's problems these days????

So many racists comments toward Chinese and Asians. We are equally as good as anyone else in playing piano.

  • Hello!

As far as i'm concerned, i'm not really sure???

It's a writing machine, no more...

  • Your comment offends.

    can you invent something?

  • I play this one in my Dimploma exam, she's taken it?

    Presto... Presto

  • Very Touching , Graet Play

  • laughing out loud

  • amazming!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much!

  • cute lol.

    good work.

  • Dude, stop trying to find mistakes and just listen to the bloody music. What's it matter if it's out of sync? Stop being so cynical.

The music was beautiful and Rachel has real talent. Thank you for playing so beautifully!

  • Her smile really indicates the ability of music to speak directly to the heart. This is such a lovely video. Excellent work!

  • AMAZING.... Absolutely excellent!!

  • There is no tempo marking in the original. I think someone's jealous. Personally I don't really enjoy listening to Bach's solo keyboard works on the piano. Get a harpsichord!

Oh, and enjoy your impending career as a concert pianist young lady! Keep it up.

  • Yes, sounds like someone thinks she's too good. Respectfully, Charlie, I must say that in Bach's published edition of the Italian Concerto, the 3d movement is marked "Presto"; it's the 1st movement without tempo marking. Bach probably thought we would be smart enough to know this given the metre and fasting-running note groups. Had he not marked Presto for the 3d, to indicate a faster than usual tempo. This little girl has music coming out her pores, for pity's sake! Why would anyone criticise?

  • I don't know why anyone would criticise out of anything but jealousy, other than to point out the obvious limitations that come with a lack of experience (a few stutters and a general staticness). I renege upon my above comment; I was quite wrong.

I'll be back in a few years time.

  • girl you are so cute...

  • She has talent for sure. But she seems to have have trouble dealing with the polyphonic texture of this work, or maybe it's just the video quality. It is relatively difficult to discern which hand is playing the main voice at times in this video. A few hours spent studying the piece a bit more would solve this problem (all three movements). Other than that, very good performance that only needs to be sped up a bit.

  • Amazing! what's her name, i supose that she's a young girl!

  • I love how she's wearing a t-shirt and shorts! her hair looks prettier in a ponytail. dont u guys agree?? Anyway, rachel you played well!Excellecnte!!

  • borka

  • Very snjoyable to listen to her. Quite a repertoire too judging by her other clips on YT.

  • she's too small, there is absolutely no need too rush when studying piano, we are not at the circus!

  • I truly agree with you. Even though she plays pretty well there should be no hurry. Let the kids be kids without stressing them too much. :)

  • I don't mean to cause an uproar - but have you thought about the Chinese/Japanese cultures' history of its value of the male over the female? I think a few years ago, this girl would have been instructed in kitchen chores much more than music...? From this perspective, I think it's fantastic that she's being shown "as an equal" to the male sex in that she is being driven to achieve as her sex may never have been before. Thoughts?

  • Well, when it's something you love there's no stopping you, not even age.

  • Bravo!

  • Wonderful Sweetheart!! Very clear and even. Good for you!! When you get older I'm sure you're going to rip through this like Glenn Gould!!

  • Not bad. 4 stars is a bit much.

  • you are simply amazing and you're so young. of course you have some things to work on but dont we all.

    You have talent m'dear

  • not bad..but the tempo is too slow

  • Good perform for this girl but the "tempo" is too slow

  • not bad, not good... ordinary.

  • lol pedophiles who love classical music

  • fantastic

  • You go sugarplum!

  • Bravo! You are so young and have done it! good articulation and good tempo, except a few parts. I think you can improve on dynamics, a bit more contrast in f and p. You got a gift. Keep on playing.

  • Wow. Fantastic. 1 word though. Jazz. Lets see some Jazz :)

  • That was not only ridiculously good (especially considering your age and the weight of the keys) you totally owned the guy you responded too... Im speechless...

  • your amazing i loved the video...your a awesome piano player i hope i can get that good someday...the only thing wrong with the video was that the sound was a little bit ahead or behind in some parts but that happens sometimes and who cares any way that was still amazing! ^^

  • Terrific! :D give me some lessons!

  • How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Play like Rachel. Kepp it up kid, we'll be buying your albums someday.

  • hmm..the sound is ahead about 3 seconds\?

  • It lags, rather.

  • "Scotty0011 (2 days ago) marked as spam

lol. she is not that good"

You have a video of you playing better at that age?

  • I'm in heaven! You're my hero Rachel!

  • wow!!! Bravo!!!

  • DARN YOUTUBE!!! It always makes videos lag!

  • Piaoliang! Rachel, you are so talented girl :) I love the videos the best where it looks like you are having fun. Let the joy shine through.

  • Maşallah kıss nazar değmesin

  • Your TOO,TOO,TOO,TOO,TOO GOOD!

  • Great piece!

You can get a free program online called "Virtual Dub". Open the file with that and "save as" AVI and it will match the playing with the audio.

  • Is it the same Rachel as "Rachel Piano Recital 1 and 2" (2 is best) posted 1 may 2007. Could be, hard to dicide, all asian girls look more or less the same. If so, she was a talent from the start, and has improved immensely. Wonderfull playing, awesome. In a world filled with hatred and violence it gives hope for the future that there are still youngsters who care about art for us non-musicians to enjoy

  • lol. she is not that good

  • I don't see her look up at her music once!!

  • for god's sake, that's called reciting.

  • Great performance - very well played! Could you synchronice the sound with the video?

  • Wow. This kid is amazing! Way to go Rachel! Brava!!

  • When did she start to play?

  • Wunderbar!

  • ohh men.. i wish i know how to play piano ..

  • kid, how old are you.. damn

  • shes nine....watch the language if you don't mind...you should watch her other vids if you havent....WOAH....

  • shes 8 or 9.

  • how old is she????

  • Nice work! She plays it better than I do, and yet her hands look tiny - and that looks like an upright piano so the keys are bound to be pretty heavy.

Considering her great disavantage of small hands + being a child that is quite amazing.

If she's that good now - i wonder what she'd sound like when she's 30.

  • You've got the technique, but you have close to no dynamics. Your left hand is way too heavy and sounds almost as if you're banging. Notes themselves don't make music. Please try it with more emotion. And there are several glitches here and there. You've got it pretty much down technically-wise so I think that you will be able to get in the dynamics with a little practice. Good job.

  • Watch some other vids, her dynamics are fenominal too :o.

  • What would you have said if she had played it on a harpsichord??

  • "damn. A harpsichord. Good job."

  • Very well, but Im tired of out of synch videos. Only one star for you, sorry.

  • uh huh. Lets see you do this.

  • Very nice work on the technique and the passion as well. I enjoyed this very much. Play on!!!

    Sincerely, hartistry

  • Wow. I'm learning this concerto at the moment (i'm 15) and i'm finding it quite tricky. You're really talented!

  • Well done again to you Rachel! As in all your other videos you have shown technique, musicality and charisma! You can't resist a little smile every now and again whilst playing can you :)

  • we have a prodigy amidst us..

  • Hardly, if she were a prodigy then she would have actually written the piece. She's not playing pefectly either, which is a good thing; it means this is the result of hard work and not an idiot savant- which I personally find more admirable than merely being born with the "knack."

  • Well spoken. I also admire her hard work, mixed with her innate talent. Takes a lot of practice to get that good....

  • Holy Shit! This is amazing... please, re-post this video synchronized with the sound!

I love Bach and this music.

  • I learned to play this piece at the age of 16. I must say, you are exceptionally talented. You have trenmendous accuracy. For next steps, I would say try to increase the speed by a bit more and convey more emotion by exaggerate your forte's and piano's a bit more. This piece is meant to flow (a lot of scales), so when playing this piece try to create the feeling of water flowing. Technique wise, you are very solid. Brilliant performance.

  • Since it was written for the harpsichord I don't see such a thing as incorrect interpretations as far as velocity is concerned.

  • A good basis to build on. I agree with superetc. re the speed: this movement is marked presto and should really rattle along. But that's very difficult to do. So persevere, and one day in the future it will come right.

  • she is a musical genius

  • exceptionally talented!! i wish all of my students had her dedication, what a happy piano teacher i would be :)

  • Lovely music, Rachel. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. Just don't forget to have fun with it!

  • Heh, when I first saw this, I thought it was a professional playing on top of the girl's video. To the mom: she's playing that well for 8 and wearing a soccer uniform... for god's sake, you better be letting her have fun too.

  • oh my she is just a little girl... even more intriguing is that she has practiced so well, or rather it is talent i sopose at that age. Very nice. Keep up the good work.

  • I don't think you need me to comment on her piano playing, as you probably already knew she's quite clearly brilliant.

  • Very well played! I like the clarity of her performance, but make sure to give it more direction and color, and see the music as more of whole rather than note-by-note. Good job!

  • very nice playing, how old is she? she's going to be a star

  • Thanks for your compliment,She is 8 y/o,S

  • This is simply amazing! I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this.. but this is really good! Good job :)

  • Most kids would find Bach a bore but Rachel seems to thoroughly enjoying the piece. Brava!

  • Wonderful as usual! I hope Rachel sticks to her path. Don't ever let her lose her way! She must become one of the guardians of culture and the transcendent, one of the few defending against today's legions of philistines.

  • There is very good clarity and evenness in her playing. Your daughter is very talented. She has solid technique. I would encourage her to keep listening to lots of great Bach recordings - Glenn Gould & Rosalyn Tureck especially. The next step for your daughter is to develop more color and more swing. She doesn't have to play it quite as fast as Gould's recording of this piece but this movement should really bounce and swing. I'd love to hear her play more Bach.

  • Her playing is exceptional. Great pacing and subtle dynamics . . . good Bach. I did find it a little difficult to appreciate it fully with the video and audio out of sync, and was surprised that the audio quality didn't change when the camera was being moved around. Perhaps this is because the audio was recorded on a separate device?

  • I used digital camera to record in *.mov file. The audio and video are not syncronised,I don't why?The other videos have the same problem

  • If the .mov file plays correctly (in sync) by itself before you upload it to YouTube, then it's probably a problem just in the conversion to the flash-movie here. If you can, try exporting that .mov to an .mp4 before you upload it to YouTube. QuickTime Pro will let you do that.

  • Although I don't like Bach, very nice played!

  • waaw...she is very talented ....she is perfect in playing
