Apparently, these protesters would rather live in a facist state with no one questioning what THEY consider to be right. Be thankful you live in a parliamentary democracy.
Protests are not allowed in the public Galleries. One can protest as much as one would like outside, but individuals or special interest groups have absolutely NO justification in stopping the Parliamentary process held by democratically ELECTED representatives. Security did what they had to do to maintain the decorum and respect for the House of Commons and our Parliamentary system.
@mcbiggest Sad to know that elected official do illegal things and are held in contempt of parliament but they are allowed to walk around like they are the King of Canada.
What a Jackass! If you didn`t resist leaving the public galleries then you would not have got hurt. Believe me IF four security guards jumped on your back and smashed your face into the ground, as you claim, then you would look a lot worse. This is completely staged. I heard you tripped yourself!
I hear that many of these comments here were paid by to try to further discredit the fact that this is in Parliamentary security's detainment. No amount of comments will discredit what the video shows.
That's quite the allegation coming from someone who was just detained by police for obnoxiously violating every sense of decorum exepected of a guest of the House of Commons. Before you go about making completely baseless statements, perhaps you should check the veracity of your sources, Adam.
Thanks for commenting while not being actually there Graham, I stood up to see what was happening to those who were being removed and was then by the wonderful association of ageism was removed from the galley. Not sure how illegal those actions are and then was detained since "I Failed to leave when asked" when there was 4 security guards on top of Jeh in a stairwell blocking the exit. Since you were not attending your comments really have nothing but your personal opinion attached to them.
So I suppose since you haven't personally witnessed ice floes melting in the arctic, your views on climate change are invalid and nothing but personal opinion? :)
Your little band was asked to leave the premesis and refused, and thus was engaged in an act of trespass, which I would hope you know is illegal. Under Canadian law, the persons responsible for the property (the government in this case) are entitled to use as much force as is neccessary to remove the offending individuals.
Thanks again Graham, seems like you seem to know everything that I am involved in from having non stop comments on a YouTube page. You do know that traveling to the arctic is a very common practice with educating people on the issue of climate change. May I suggest that you check out one of the many programs that are available like Students On Ice so you can confim your opinion?
Wouldn't mind the trip actually, but let's stick to the issue at hand.
Whether or not I was present at that abortion of a fiasco of a protest is irrelevant. By referencing independent media reports it's evident what you were up to, and by referencing the Canadian Criminal Code, it's evident that it was illegal. Lastly, and whether you refuse to believe it or not, the fact remains that your protest was organized by an NDP insider attempting to drum up support for a private member's bill.
What did Canada expect when it elected a former Exxon accountant as a Prime Minister? You speak out about global warming - the police break your nose, and the national media lie about it. Why is that so hard for these kids to understand?
Here's a suggestion with respect to avoiding getting blood on your face. (As proud of yourself as you look to actually have it.
Avoid arrogantly walking into places full of people that have been elected by thousands of others, and demanding to be heard because you are sure you are right.
You were not elected to be there, and are probably young and wrong anyways. We've all been there. Now grow up. In most countries you could expect much much worse you big baby.
Funny how the "Power and Politics" link has disappeared from CBC's homepage. Maybe they don't want people to see Evan Solomon on his new show getting pwned by Jeh...
From Power and Politics Oct. 27, about 4 min. in...
"JEH: I got this bloody nose by having my face smashed on the ground after being taken down by four security using pain compliance.
SOLOMON: And how do we know, 'cause yesterday you told us there was tape of that, and we've asked you for tape for the last 24 hours and you said on the show there's documented evidence BUT WE HAVEN'T GOT ANY OF THAT DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE.
JEH: THAT'S ACTUALLY NOT TRUE. We released it to the CBC when we came in...
... "SOLOMON: There's very - just for the record - what we got was very few seconds and none of it really. We didn't show it because we couldn't see the telling details...
JEH: (Ignoring Solomon) Alright, we'll post it on YouTube for any of you who are interested out there...
SOLOMON: (Oh shi...) We can post it, but Jeh..."
LOLOLLL!!1!!!
No telling details? What, like images of Jeh in custody with the same blood on his face Evan's now accusing him of faking?
Grahamnoyes, could you please explain your comment of "the protestors practiced their chants beforehand in a parliament conference room booked by the NDP,"
Were you personally there? If so then you would know that was not the case and that your comment is false. I also guess that since youth had met with the Environment Minister earlier on in the week that he also could have arranged for the protest to happen. The protest started when a Conservative MP was speaking watch the footage on CPAC.
So... what you're saying is that Jim Prentice met with the protestors a week prior... and he could just have likely organized the protest... against his own government.
Well I am not sure why there is the focus of this being a NDP stunt when the protest began during the time that a Conservative MP was speaking. The point I made in my comment is using the same rational that you are using in your statement but I guess your comment holds more truth since you were not actually at any of these meetings and would know more of what actually happened at these meetings.
Judging by the evidence linking the protest leadership to the NDP and the support provided to the group by the NDP prior to their little show, its pretty clear who was behind this stunt.
Graham, I am not sure if you know you are arguing with someone who was one of the 6 arrested and who knows that it was an unplanned action. I have attended the past two United Nations Climate Change Summits, worked with the UNDP on creating a youth summary of the UN Human Development Report and has done a research paper for the UN Sec Gen on how to engage with youth on this issue. It comes down to the lack of action from Canadian government is why young people felt the need to stand up and speak
I'm a little confused by your group's constant insistence this flash mob was "unplanned", considering it's pretty hard to get a flash mob going when no one has planned anything to begin with.
Since it is clear that this was not planned by any political parties and was actually not planned prior at all you are just trying to divert the issue that Canadian citizens were injured on Parliament Hill while doing a peaceful protest. The issue at hand is the lack of ambitious action from the Canadian Government to address climate change and not the blood that was spilled in the halls of Parliament.
You can deny links to the NDP all you like, but the facts are in the open for the public to decide on, and it would seem most people have taken a less than favourable view of this little stunt.
Moreover, your exaggeration and grandstanding of "Jeh's" injuries aside, judging by the video of the protestors being escorted from the premises, it's evident there wasn't a scratch on him, which does note jive with the story he gave of being "repeatedly smashed into the floor". Logic would dictate he acquired those wounds in some other manner, and considering he preserved them for several hours until he appeared on CBC, it is obvious he did so to portray his arrest as brutal and violent.
Media literacy 101, Graham: not everything the media says is true, and not everything they imply even makes logical sense. I'm sure the activists only wish that existed a political party in Canada with strong enough leadership on climate change to align themselves with. That is sadly not true. The issues they are talking about run deeper then party politics.
A note: the activists have good communication skills because of the depth of knowledge they have and the level of their engagement.
"Progressive" activists are notorious proponents of confirmation bias; any media reports which do not produce a sympathetic view of their cause are immediately discounted as a part of a corporate propagandist conspiracy, while supporting or "alternative" media sources (Indymedia, Amy Goodman or the activist groups themselves) are put forward as genuine sources, despite their views being so utterly biased and beyond the pale as to be worthless.
No one is asking the CBC to support or sympathize with them. What they are asking for is an opportunity to talk directly about why they were on the Hill and what they were trying to accomplish.
I hardly think the CBC is a "corporate propagandist conspiracy." I do think their coverage of this story is focusing improperly.
Also, there's a difference between having an uninformed bias and to be well informed and take a stance.
But didn't they get two sessions with Evan Solomon on CBC Power & Politics, live, where they did precisely that? And how is questioning the tactics of the interviewees not a proper focus? Do journalists not have a responsibility to ask tough questions on behalf of a curious public?
They did, but an interview should balance questions that ask what/when/why/where and how. Journalists ask questions that are framed to obtain certain types of information.
The CBC fixating on Jeh's nose detracts from the really hard questions like:
- what is being done by Canadian policy-makers w/re: climate change?
- why did you feel you needed to interrupt parliament?
- why didn't parliament pass Bill C-311?
- what is your message? what would you like to see happen now?
I'm referring to the first interview right after the incident, where "Jeh" appeared with his oh-so-grievous injuries, and where the protestors were given a platform to explain their actions and views.
You're referring to the second interview, wherein it's evident from the direction Evan Solomon was taking that the purpose of the follow-up in of itself was to address the discrepency between Jeh's bloodied appearance in the first interview, and how he looked after being ejected from the House.
wow... where did all of this communist talk come from? I am just asking for a more democratic form of government. How about creating a government where 30% of the popular vote cannot rule over all.
This action certainly did not have anything to do with the NDP. It was an NDP member that issued the gallery passes, but that was it. I used to work for the Green Party and I typically got my passes from the NDP, now I'm a libertarian socialist and I still get passes from the NDP.
handofash: "... only vote ... if you have money ... special intrest groups ... better ideas ... heads up their asses!"
So we have an emergency with ppl like me and old bad democracy, which makes people who earn money more powerful, which you're about to fix so your system -- lets call it communism; we have to call it something -- will rule instead?
Sounds... not so nice. Revolutionary socialism is tested quite a lot. I prefer constitutional democracy and rule of law before the Bolsjevik thug.
Communism is a word of propaganda. I'm a humanist. I see a world where people don't need money and copetiton can be kept in the sports arenas. People will segragate by choice, not force. Force is the instigator of relatiation. I don't understand the need for crap you can't take with you when you die nor do I know why people need fancy cars and huge houses. I don't know why we are in Afgahnistan when the real need is in Darfur. I don't recognize Canada, nor do I care to.
handofash. So you want to force society to abolish competition and replace it with a "people ruled" "anti-competitive" power? Have you heard about the Cultural Revolution i China? If you don't recognize Canada as a state, and perform violent actions against it I think security police should have an eye on you.
Your ideas in this discussion is something with which you compete against my ideas, so you are yourself deliberately in the competition business, supporting the competition idea. ;)
Technology will be the drive of the next movement. I would love to explain it to you if you could prove that I'm not going to waist my time. There isn't enough space on these coment boxes to issue such a challenge. I would be glad to cut apart your conception of reality piece by piece, but we will have to do it somewhere else.
Go on! I can, however, before you start, mention that I think suggestions that technology shall replace democracy generally implies a fascist system ("Brave new world"). I'm educated, so give short descriptions and referenses, please!
Why shall we fight muslims in Darfur instead? Because that Hollywood is pro taking action in Darfur?
I agree that southern Sudan is a disaster, but there's a real reason, and logical idea in concert with the threat from terrorism, to fight in Afghanistan (the bin Laden network did, together with the Taliban regime, several terror atrocities -- some of them in Asia -- long before 911).
handofash. (Laden without two n.) Yes, I've seen him in Sweden in the 70s and 80s -- actually in my hometown (reported in the local news later). I've also read litterature in politics (e g Jason Burke) which describe his life, political position, negotiating with the Saudi government, move to Sudan etc.
I've also seen the interviews with him by Robert Fisk (a very leftist reporter), as well as his own videos, so I guess he's real.
First of all, you are putting words in my mouth, please stop! I feel like I'm talking to fox news. I see what is happening in Darfur, I dont watch TV or follow media trends thank you very much. The western values behind celebrities disgust me. I actually care that there is innocent people dying in places where only several kilometres away, you have white man compounds where its business as usual.
I have never said anything about fighting except that when you do fight you get retaliation. There is possibly a differential calculation one could use from situation to situation to measure the amount of retaliation based on the current behaviours of the people challenged.
Everything you do is based on some kind of value system. Everyone is like a gear in this system; they will provide a negative or positive output. The problem with our current system is that we are putting in so much power behind certain figures for and against others (whom generally meet over a cup of coffee), that it becomes a balancing act to which there is little achieved.
...you know I almost fell for it! I had a whole comeback planned, but I have to say you are one crafty devil. You throw a good punch, but you have no wieght to back it up. I feel bad that you had to create this defence mechanism, so what happened? Were you an outcast at school?
Still angry at you dad for a little unmaritted 'touchy-feely'? Your an engineer from Sweeden, surly you have better things to do then medeling around in things you obviously know nothing about.
What I do is what you call 'poisoning the well' The best way to attrect attention is by slapping them in the face. You are here because you like to argue, you don't care what I have to say because you only need to feel like you dominated someone. And yes, I do have a better solution.
handofash. Yes, I've seen bin Laden on photographs in Sweden in the 70s and 80s -- actually in my hometown Oerebro, in the local newspaper. I've also read litterature (e g Jason Burke) which describes his life, political position, negotiating with the Saudi government, move to Sudan etc.
I've also seen one of two interviews with him by Robert Fisk (a leftist reporter), as well as his own videos. So I guess he's real.
Evan Soloman thinks that this is too short? This is perfect evidence that both: it is in the parliament centre block, and that Jeh was brutalized by the police. There is some seriously fishy politics going on at CBC, judging from the difference between today's interview and yesterday's. I wonder what the producer told him? Great new show Evan, you the new mouthpiece for the conservative dictatorship!
Like the video, not the blood!

the leader of the protest, Joe Cressy, is the political events co-ordinator for the NDP in Ottawa Centre,

Reality: You only vote from those chosen from a shortlist in which you do not vote for.
You only have power if you have money unless your part of a special intrest group.
Your 'civil servants' use you tax money to please the special intrest groups but if you need EI, good luck in getting anything substantial.
Fact: Democracy is over 2000 years old! In this day in age you don't think better ideas have come along?
Reality: The world is filled with people with their heads up their asses!

You have a conspiracy theory? I'm not surpriced.

Like the bleeding nose! Good police using needed force to stop criminal political thugs is also what democracy and freedom is about.

'Conservative dictatorship', really? It's Canada bud. Please, try not to be quite so ignorant and get a grip on reality.
