i like it. but considering the hardware the bad guys have, i wouldnt run in the open as Eddie does. In reality they would have ended up machine fodder.
Kind of surprising to see Castíllo jumping from the roof like a ninja and assassinating those guys without a sound. And yes, I've enjoyed watching most of the episodes of Miami Vice. I own the first, second and last seasons.
Folks, I admit, I'm old! But seeing this reminds me how cool "Miami Vice" was in the day. I know all you 20-30 y/o multi-media know it alls think this is cheesy but it still rocks!
"Folks, I admit, I'm old! But seeing this reminds me how cool "Miami Vice" was in the day. I know all you 20-30 y/o multi-media know it alls think this is cheesy but it still rocks!"
Me too, but they really knew how to use the music of the time in the show.
If I am not mistaken, the chanting is from the russian liturgy of st john chrysostom, the main Eastern Orthodox liturgy. I am pretty sure that if it is not, then the style is exactly the same as orthodox chanting, with a slow droning. I always have loved the russian chant. If you look for the "cherubic hymn" called the "trisagion" (thrice holy) on itunes and poke around, you will find a tune that is almost exactly like this one. It is not the same, but very close and the very same mood.
THE CHANTING PART IS GEORGIAN FOLK SONG TSINSKARO - HAS NO RELIGIOUS MEANING, IT'S ACTUALLY A LOVE SONG. GREAT POLYPHONY!! AS ALL OF THE IBERIAN/ COLCHIAN SONGS!:)
It was also featured in Nosferatu, 1979 & a couple of other European movies. But Nobody will ever perform it as Hamlet Gonashvili!
@holskerx do a youtube search for Rustavi-Tsintskaro..19 seconds into the chant you will hear the chant that was broadcast on this episode of Miami Vice.

A word of advice to the producers of Miami Vice: A little less music and a little more action would be appreciated. The royalties must've been through the roof.
Did you ever actually see an episode of Miami Vice the original?
It was an amazing series, at first pink and plastic like the flamingo and later on like a Greek tragedy, everyone standing around in choreographed positions looking depressed.
bamaboy asks "what about Kate ?" Indeed. This video is as much about Kate's very appropriate musical masterpiece (she doesn't do anything less) as it is about Miami Vice.
This episode, while one of my favorites, is hard to watch. The part when Castillo finds out Jack Gretzy, his best friend who he had shot, had named his only son after him. Tear jerker every time I watch it. Plus, when Jack and Martin found each other in the Buddhist temple, strong scene.
Probably one of the top five vice episodes ever produced. Eddy Olmos was always the best thing about this show and I just love him in the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. He's America's least appreciated and most underated actor.
Does Miami Vice get any better than Castillo and the "Bushido" episode? How about Willie Nelson and the "El Viejo" episode? -- tough call! But this one was one of my favorites, no doubt!

Miami Vice Wiki and IMDB both say that it's the 8th. Also, so does the DVD video collection.

try and get hold of werner herzogs 80's remake of the 1918 vampire movie Nosferatu, Kate has sampled the music from here, ps very creepy film..

The song the chanting is from is from Kate Bush's
"Hello Earth". I believe brucefetter's answer about the Russian Liturgy is correct in regards to the actual chanting portion.
