I read that if they had routed all the exhaust thru the decritive trapazoid. It would get so hot that the cars body would melt in that area. Ford had a simular problem back in 1995 with the Ford GT90 which also had quad turbos. Ford used ceramic tiles, like that on the space suttles to deflect the heat out of its exhaust port. I looked a lot better than two black lawn mower tail pipes trying to hid in the defuser. I mean this car is over 1 million dollars. They can't make it look more refined?

It's also to do with horsepower, to get as much power as they needed they simply couldn't route it all through the trapezoid.

you do knowe that the veyron has 3 exhausts. they wanted to just use that one square one but as it has so much power they needed more. so it has 3. the main one is the square one you see and there is also two other ones eadch side of that square exhaust that come out of the defuser. bet you didn't know that

It is still a fairly unknown fact, most people wouldn't recognize those dark forms in the diffusers as exhausts if they weren't told beforehand, since it tends to be in shadow.

On another note, the Veyron's doors are aluminium rather than carbon, so they sound better upon shutting.
