I may be being a bit daft and unscientific here, but I thought the lightning was attracted to metal, and presuming the camera recording it was mental, wouldn't it be attracted to the camera also and eletrocute it?
@squishy3000 yes, it would be attracted to anything metal, however electricity always take the path of least resistance. meaning it would take the shortest path to be grounded. the teslas are probobly being fired near a sheet of metal or a chain link fence structure, providing the quickest way down.

At 2:19 when the sparks stop, the background music is playing. It's midi. I'm not saying that most of the sound isn't coming from the coils.
