So if I understand this correctly. Its not the usual 3d in the sense of popping out at you, but in a sense that you can loo at the content from any angle as you walk around it? Making YOU the camera. Interesting. Great for porn. :D

@RavenscroftX no, it's 3d because you are seeing 2 different angles, one with each eye, which makes it look 3D. So let's say you're left eye is looking at the video at the 240 degree angle of video, you're right eye be looking at the video at 243 degrees (could be higher or lower) depending on how close to the display you are. The closer you are to the display, the higher the difference in angle, so the image should look more 3D the closer you are to it, and less from farther.

Why should we honestly care, though? I've seen 3-D TV, it's just as boring as 3-D movies. It's cool that we can all watch it from all sides, but 3-D is just a gimmick to get people to buy something useless.

This is some cool technology. and there are other videos if the folks arguing think its a rotating image. It also has gesture recognition. And of course scientists make better stuff than this people its common sense. Sony while cool and innovative is a Consumer Electronics Company, there not pushing the limits of human knowledge here. Dont hold me to this but I read on a post in a related video that we had something like this in the 1980's. This is just improved technology if that's true.

I think the thing is that it's not that kinda 3D.

In normal 3D you get varying distances in the picture causing you to focus differently, making it seem more real. This being the first 360 degree display that actually changes angle, it let's you go behind and in besides the frame, making it in what we would call "4D", but with out 3D (a bit cryptic, I know) so that you could be in a picture, but not see the distance or change focus yet...

Instead of a single line of LED's, they're spinning a 720i display and flashing images. Its a novelty for sure, but not really innovative or new. Not to mention its only good for CG as it require 360 different viewpoints of the same footage.

Apart from consoles sony and MS are in totally different markets: MS are primarily a software developer, and Sony are primarily a hardware developer. Just because they cross over in one market that you (for some reason) have decided to attach an inordinate amount of importance to doesn't mean that its suddenly valid to compare everything they do.

Of course MS wouldn't make anything like this, just as Sony wouldn't make an Operating System.
