Its not just the Wilhelm Scream! I've heard a LOT of sounds in videogames and the same ones in movies / tv / etc... nice collection though... I'm sure it was a lot of work.
I love how people are pointing out things he missed. Of course he can't put them all in a single clip, there are almost 200 known movies with this sound in them, some using it multiple times. Cut the man some slack.
I kept hearing about this but didn't entirly believe it. Certainly sounds the same. Was it ever confirmed that it was Wilhelm? I heard there was some controversy about that. Years ago I ran a studio and some guys wanted me to scream on the last track of their CD. I declined because I was afraid that would be the one thing I'd become known for. Thankfully I'm still a nobody :)
We use the Wilhelm scream in our movie "Know Thy Neighbor" when a dude gets hit by a car. We're going to make it a point to try to use it as much as we can from now on.
that's just it. it's such a good cue for the VISUAL FALL or VISUAL PAIN that you don't even realize it sounds nothing like the voice actor. it doesn't sound like ANY of the characters that it comes up with. Since the making of this video it has been used in other pictures aswell. There are certain original and pioneering foley sounds that foley-artists enjoy throwing in as an homage or tribute to their importance.
it's okey when you watch a movie and you hear it once in the entire movie....but watching several of them one after the other; it's simply ridiculous...
a couple of days ago i was watching star wars and i thought, "man, i've heard that scream in about 20 different movies, is that just me or is it used more than once." well now i know.
I can't stop laughing; hearing the same scream used over and over again (especially when it's used in the same movie three times!) It's like the same guy keeps dying in dozens of movies...
You also missed one in the recent, Peter Jackson version of King Kong. They play the scream when a man is knocked off the cliff in the dinosaur stampede.
I didn't make this lovely montage, but I realize that it leaves quite a few out, it's hardly a complete clip collection. Was there really one before the "first one"? Was it from the same film?
I wonder how many Wilhelm screams there are in all of Star Trek, and I mean all of Star Trek.

Normally stuff like this starts off funny, stops being funny and then starts being funny again. This never stopped being funny!

Even in the Goofy Movie? Should the Goofy scream be used in a Goofy movie? It would sound a lot better, but I guess it's a different kind of humour.
cryhavok72 4 years ago
No no, its real. Its in an insane number of movies as an in-joke for sound editors in general and Ben Burtt in particular.
