  • If you listen really close during the last stanza, you can hear Ciaran's sense of humour as Luke is singing the verse: "Now my candle is burnt out, my snotter's fairly on the wane . . ." "NOT TRUE!" Hahahaha!

  • Love this one!

  • one person didnt get winked at in church...lol

  • Absolute Musical Hero - My Mam loved the Dubliners - I grew up with the Dubliners - Luke was a musical God!!!

  • I actually can't stop listening to this

  • @paolovf it´s like a drug

  • Godly godlike performance! I want to do a godly dance when I hear this song from the God's own house!

  • Delgaty Castle I believe is the ancestral home of the Clan Hay in Aberdeenshire Scotland. Workers going to local fairs usually went to obtain employment from local farmers where they would be 'feed' (paid a fee for a period of work) to work on local farms as horsemen, or orramen(general labour) These vtimes were long before unionised labour and workers were often ill treated .

  • da mans a legend best ever

  • This is actually a Scottish workers' song. It's about the goings on leading up to and during a local fair. Very good stuff. RIP, Luke.

  • another great one kelly, well done!

  • ...this is first time I've heard the magical sing this one....just wonderfull...they ever fill my heart..

  • amazing isnt it?

  • Yeah, I've heard this by the Clancy's too... but not for about 15 years.

  • Luke probably learnt this song whilst touring and performing with The Ian Campbell Folk Group, regular visitors to Aberdeen, as Ian was an 'Aiberdeen loon' himsel'.

Luke often performed in Aberdeen as a solo artist. Luke makes any song his own. (Aye the lads look gie dapper wi' their suits on!!) Top notch version! :o)

  • I love this could listen to it forever lol

  • ppl dont realise Luke did a lot of his early stuff while traveling all over England -- and you can hear it in some of his later stuff with the Dubliners-- ahh yes he was a true troubadoor

  • Another fantastic job by Luke singing in the Doric - the local tongue here in the North East of Scotland. What a **super**star**!!

  • Its amazing..he does it like it's his mother tongue, and delivered at that speed, that's quite a feat!

  • He's Amazing!!!
