  • The clock switching from 20:00 to 29:59 is hilarious ;-) good old analogue technology ;)

  • It's pretty clear that the commentators hadn't done much homework because the very critical "1202 alarm", which came near to causing an abort, passed right by without comment.

    Also, that's a real flame coming that that bad sci-fi movie model! It's a wonder they didn't burn down the studio! Of course there is no visible flame tongue in a vacuum without molecules to give off light, so that was a wasted effort!

  • Hadn't done their homework? Geez, not even the flight controllers knew what the 1202 alarm meant at the time and it was only encountered on the last ground simulation before flight. Even then, the guidance backroom guys were the only one familiar with the issue (after that sim) and knew what it meant.

    As for the flame, ever hear of the concept of using something for illustration purposes alone? Kind of hard to show on TV when an engine is burning if the exhaust is *realistically invisible*, no?
