  • THUMBS UP IF U LIVE IN SAN DIEGO! i do.... plus seal team six killed osama.... and they where trained in SD (coranado island to be excsat)

  • It's either a tsunami (caused by the sudden movement of an earthquake) OR a storm surge (caused by a moving storm with high winds). But not a "tsunami storm surge".

Both events can push a lot of ocean water up onto the land, and they've killed hundreds of thousands of people in the last 200 years, but they have different origins. California doesn't have hurricanes (which have storm surges) but it is susceptible to tsunamis.

  • Best thing about this video is greenday in the back ground, THUMBS UP!

  • wow the water really receded!

  • wow

  • omg, omg, omg. wow. really? are you kidding me? nice video you got there get your n facts straight! nice "tsunami" storm surge you got.

  • I would get my facts strait before commenting on where the earthquake was before making yourself sound like and idiot who doesnt really know whats going .... it was in Japan not Chili, and seriousely standing there filming was not the brightest idea either.

  • @dirtdiva1998 So hi!! I'm the idiot?? If you would check the date on the video you'll see that this was filmed in 2010!! And the earthquake that caused this surge was in the country of CHILI!! But thanks for playing and have a great day :)

  • @dirtdiva1998 Actually you have YOUR facts wrong. If u look at the date on this its Feb 27 2010 which is in fact the Chilean Earthquake Tsunami. I bet u feel dumb now.

  • @dirtdiva1998 Sounds like you're the idiot here. Nice work, Ace.

  • tell em i'm filming it. we'll sell it. but let's put it on youtube first.

  • oh a tsunami is coming maybe we should stand as close as possible to the water and film.....

  • Wow considering the developments in Japan now 2012 looks alot more likely

  • @benitofinito We had a tidal surge from Japan's earthquake but it was no where as dramatic as this. Even today we're getting a tidal surge every couple hours.

  • @benitofinito I will not and you can't make me :) Have a nice day

  • @benitofinito Yes I agree: the year 2012 will very likely occur. I predict it will begin in 293 days. You can take that to the bank.

  • Damn that's crazy ! Good video though :) hope we don't see nothing like that again in SD area !

  • Thanks for your input :) You're quite a scholar, and your deduction and reasoning skills are very impressive. Have a great day!!

  • @gunher01 It's not a storm surge. It has nothing to do with any storms. An earthquake is NOT A STORM! Change your title of the video.

  • u guys really insist this is a storm surge....dumbasses....you dont live in Diego do you? u seem like tourists the way youre gawking at something that happens a lot

  • @misterwobblehead Umm, you are obviously a dumbass. I lived in San Diego for 10 years, and tsunamis did not happen "a lot"; actually very rarely. And why is it so difficult to spell correctly? "u" is not a word. Neither are "dont" and "youre". You need some apostrophes in there... dumbass. You are correct, however, in criticizing their use of "storm surge", since it's definitely not a storm surge.

  • @oldwhaler cuz i like to short cut my words to make people like you think im dumb.

  • @oldwhaler if im so right, then why bother fussing at me....its not the first time tsunami waves have visited Cali, happened after the chilean quake, happened in 2007 for some other eartquake...seems like once every couple of years or maybe 3, something rattles the ocean and sends a decent wave your way

  • if it was a storm surge, ud be in a hurricane or bad storm....its an EBB

  • i dont get it. what does this mean?

  • @appletylercj before the wave hits, the water recedes, its the water basically going into the wave prior to the wave hitting....ever been to the beach?

  • @misterwobblehead so this had everything to do with the Japanese earthquake?

  • @appletylercj well, this does have something to do with the quake, yes. You know when a wave comes onto shore, and a few seconds before it hits, the water onshore goes back out? like that but with a wave bought in from japan.

  • @misterwobblehead wow unreal! History in the making.

  • lol i didnt notice the song lol how approriate lol

  • Alaverga :S lo bueno que no vivo serca del mar (Y);

  • where was this taken in san diego

  • @MARINECORPS61992113 point loma, i know cause i used to work there, as far as the landing im not sure

  • you were in the bay, i was at the ob pier and saw nothing, i wouldnt have expected anything too, how was fishing that day? I went on the fisherman 3 the next day

  • lol someone was listening to green day at 7:00

  • I'm booking a surprise for my family I did my research at bestvaluethemeparks (.) com

  • I am surprised how many people dont know that if the water leaves then it will most likely come back so the last place you want to be is standing on the beach??

  • what boat do you work on, like i said i used to work on the international star for kirk lol

  • darn and i missd it, i talkd to pat on the jig strike and he said it was awsome, btw if you work there you may even know me, its josh formerly of the international star lol, wow i would have loved to watch that, you caught history on film, you shloud be very proud of yourself and hold on to this film for life.

  • @pvtread Thanks :) I do work down there. My name is Tish

  • @gunher01 was this the first waves, or later in the day

  • @pvtread This was the third or fourth surge. I know I missed the first two for sure.

  • thats 17 days from my brother's birthday his name is Jayden

  • I hear Green Day in the background.

  • in alaska the tide goes out more then this, those boats would be heating ground.

  • I bet that bird said 'Oh my god what happened to the water?'

  • umm, if you we're expecting a tsunami and you we're watching the water recede, why would you stand there and film?

  • @pinaybahbey because the wave wouldnt be that big,

  • TIme lapse would be perfect, if it were on a tripod... only problem with those flips ( I have one, too) is that they are hard to keep still. They don't have any IS image stabilization, so its kinda rough footage...but its fascinating to see that water get displaced like that! Thanks for capturing it!

  • I was at Dana Point harbor around the same time. It was more sureal to see in person but your vid is awesome! (5 stars) Amazing that these effects traveled 6,000 miles and still had so much power!

Great job. Thanks for posting. Oh yeah... nice fishing vid too.

I sent a video response. I hope you consider it.

    Dave (BD 5150dude)

  • awesome illustration

  • If I ever saw that happen I would get the hell out of there, just in case, and up the hill... I'd prefer to watch it from Cabrillo National Monument

  • Good video, thanks.

  • that bottle never seen the daylight in 70 years, you should have dive in their and get the bottle.but yeah this is really amazing, peace you all.

  • wow great vid. time lapse it!!

  • very cool, thanks for posting.

  • if the wave was big they will be dead

  • dude thats right by pizza nova. didn't know it actually affected us up here

  • It's exaggerated by the tsunami.

  • @ihmen since when do tides change THAT rapidly?.....you must be from oklahoma.....lol

  • I thought I saw a foot......lol

  • @snakesinmypants hhahahahahahaahha arghahaah ARGHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHASAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LOL'ED

  • This is great! Can you make a time lapse version?

  • I'll consider it. Thanks :-)

  • Great video! I'm sure it's a large file but I was wondering if there was any chance I could get a copy of this video file from you?

  • Send me a private message letting me know who you are and why. Thanks

  • Was this taken over off San Antonio Place? I used to live around the corner at Rosecrans near Kona Way.

  • This was taken between Fishermans Landing and Poitn Loma Sportfishing at the foot of Fenelon and Scott Street.

  • Wow, that really is amazing...

And lol, congrats for putting up with the uninformed people in the background.

    Nice vid :)

  • Thanks. It's my job to inform the un-informed LOL I didn't mind. It drew quite the crowd.

  • Very cool!!!!

  • This is totally amazing. It's amazing I didn't fall asleep watching it.

  • I thought it was a long video too. But it was all raw footage. Thanks!

  • thats how people die they see the water go out and then boom shit hits the fan as for me i wouldnt stick around i would head to the high ground.

  • We were in a pretty safe place. Where this was filmed we were in an inlet inside a harbor. No part of it was facing or near the open ocean. But you are right about it being dangerous. Thanks for watching

  • this is way more intense than the tsunami of 04

  • Soundtrack by Greenday. I hope you had the time of your life my fair lady.

  • that is so cool

  • that is really something to see. thanks for the post. ignor the haters. i, too, watched it quickly by dragging the slider. very cool and scary

  • I don't mind the haters. They're amusing :-) Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @gunher01 @gunher01 Hi lady, your video is what we should be using Youtube for. But I'm most interested in the gulls. The animals are close to nature. There is one wondering what's going on by the water line.

  • oh man... thats a sight to see... wow.

  • Yeah, it was amazing

  • That's just crazy! I was watching the coverage yesterday in Hawaii, I'm glad it wasn't a massive surge because the surfers in the water would have been fucked!

  • I was so relieved that Hawaii dodged the bullet. If you were ever going to be wrong about something a tsunami would be one of the things I'd like to be wrong about.

  • Yeah, very glad! Especially with what they predicted about the surge.

  • the birds sure enjoyed it

  • Yeah they thought it was fast food at the shore line. They were every where.

  • The link was posted on Allcoast. Gnarly surge; thanks for posting this.

  • Glad yyou enjoyed it

  • islandseeker1971, Why couldn't you have had the Flip? A day late and a dollar short, dude!!

  • I would have loved to have seen a video of what happened at Bali Hai

  • Your lucky to be alive, very scary. That surge....amazing.. Next time be careful

  • You're very correct. I didn't even think that at the time

  • At least you saw it in person. As to the video, I think it could have been more intense if you somehow showed more contrast between before and after. Don't quit your day job!

  • Oooo Haters!! LOL you know you've it going on when the haters show up. Thank you!! Made my day :-)

  • Pretty cool - thanks

  • Thank you for watching and commenting :-)

  • Its really a nice video.... and i watched it till the end loved the way it retracts and comes back up again feels like the ocean is breathing!! wonder if it has asthma :P

  • Yep that is amazing thats fast

  • It was like nothing I've ever seen

  • All I can think of is Zork. Don't you know you need the jewel in the bottle to distract the Thief?!?

  • Zork? Like the video game?

  • Heh, yeah. Loved that game.

    Cool vid, BTW.

  • Wow!

  • I know right?!

  • I saw the Bali Hi dock snap in three and the center cection popped up in the air and took off like it was on a river. We had 10 concrete pilings SNAP! Cool, but I don't need to ever witness that again! I'm good with the tsunami's thanks.... Imagine what it would have done at high tide...

I'm glad someone got it on video. Thanks for posting it.

  • I didn't hear about the Bali Hai damage. We had damage to all three docks. Water pipes and I think some wood damage. But nothing like that. We all talked about what it could have been if it had been high tide. It would have destroyed our docks completely.

  • Get to higher ground? Screw that go get the wine bottle and see whats in it!

  • Maybe a genie? One can only hope :-)

  • Watching it by clicking and dragging the dealy forward makes it move fast! That's just so crazy. :)

  • It was crazy to see!

  • Interesting, but I wouldn't say it's amazing. Thanks for sharing, tho.

  • A little more amazing in person. But for a water line to move at that speed is incredible. I've been around the ocean my whole life and never seen anything like it

  • You guys got incredibly lucky. If you are ever near the beach and you hear yourself saying, "I've never seen a tide go out like that before," it's time to GET TO HIGHER GROUND.

  • We were in a harbor so I knew we were safe. But you are so right!

  • @gunher01 But imagine a tsunami the size of the 2004 Indian Ocean event channeling up that harbor. The only warning you would get would be the sound of your own voice going, "I've never seen a tide go out like that before."

  • I know people who got out of there and headed for higher ground. It honestly never scared me. But that is the scary part. I'll remember your words next time. Thank you :-)

  • Great video thanks for shareing it. None of San Diego News covered this what a shame.

  • I contacted the news about this and they got it about 5pm. I was thinking I'd see it some where on tonights news

  • WHOA!!! Amazing! That was cool.

  • I thought so. Incredible!

  • Thank You for this video and not selling it! I have never seen this before and hope to never see it again. Just amazing!

  • I was blown away. I hope that it will never happen again but I'm glad I was there to see it
