When I lived in Switzerland, being English speaking I relied a lot on the subtitles (in German) for French films This helped improve both my French and German but I discovered something fascinating If I really started getting involved, I would suddenly realize afer half an hour or so, that I had understood every word and hadn't read the subtitles once As soon as I was conscious of this, I needed the subtitles again One of the many mysteries of language Has anyone else experienced this I wonder

Thanks for posting this. I'm a German immigrant living the modern American dream in Hollywood. Good to hear of these success stories. And so sad that it happened because of what happened in my country. We must never forget.
