Kenny G Saxophones

First off, Kenny G really can't play the saxophone very well and any experienced pro plsyer knows that. Secondly, Kenny G some way or another has the ignorant convinced that his is "jazz". It's not educational and it's rather lame.

You know when someone is good at what they do, when envious people starts to negatively criticize a succesful person like kenny G you know he is good. (pure jazz, classic jazz) he is influenced by Grover Washington Jr., who is a smooth jazz artist.. close to pop jazz.. you cant say kenny g sucks, coz if he does, he wouldnt be rich and popular as he is now. In my opinion,maybe kenny is being hated by classic/pure jazz musicians bcoz kenny is more famous and is earning a lot of money with his style of music.. hahahah.. they are losers!! so sad.

I liked Kenny G older material and yes, he does play good. He had a sound i liked when he played with Jeff Lorber Fusion band.

Still yet, Kenny can make a student horn sound good because it's the person that makes the saxophone sound like it does. Coltrane went through many many mouthpieces, modifying them to get his sound, and before recordings he'd do that and destroy the mouthpiece.....But, when worse came to worse, he played on whatever was available, And You Knew It Was Him. Same with Charlie Parker. Though Kenny isn't in their rankings, just a point being made it's not all about the horn. :-)

I dunno man, some of his older material was pretty good. I'll play it in the car once in a while, but that doesn't mean I follow or emulate after his style of playing. I do have to thank the man for his music that encouraged me to pick of the sax, and soon enough I may be playing for a living soon. :-)

thats a great question. i actually studied this as part of my degree. basically - there are two reasons. 1) Jazz sax players hate him because he is consistantly out of tune - usually sharp. His improvisation is based on psuedo blues/pentatonic licks and shows no imagination at all. 2) The rest of the jazz world hates him because he never writes his own stuff. He crossed the line by recording over Louis Armstrong's Wonderful World. He's successful because hes a sell out.

I am not a sax phone player, but i think that people who love what they do shouldnt hate other people for doing what they love to do. if people find that their "imaginations" are best fit into what they call Jazz then they should let kennys imagination run around in what he thinks Jazz is to him. i dont think hes a sell out, hes just doing what he loves to do and if takeing a certain type of music and tweaking it makes him love then no1 should hate.
